Abstract

Non-bank financial institutions, particularly Islamic financing companies, play a strategic role in supporting national economic activities. Islamic Financing Companies, either as fully-fledged companies or Sharia Business Units (UUS), face various complex risk challenges. According to data from the Financial Services Authority (OJK), the assets of Islamic financing companies increased significantly from IDR 27.85 trillion (2023) to IDR 33.67 trillion (2024), although their market share remains limited to below 6%. Amid these dynamics, the implementation of risk management becomes a critical element to ensure stability, sustainability, and compliance with Sharia principles. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach through library research, analyzing the risks, principles, standards, stages, and strategies of risk management in Islamic financing companies, as well as their practices in the industry. The findings indicate that companies such as PT. Astra Sedaya Finance and PT. Sharia Multifinance Astra have adopted comprehensive risk management strategies, including internal risk control, risk oversight through risk management and compliance functions, and independent internal audits. This approach is integrated with anticipatory measures, such as policy updates, information technology development, human resource empowerment, and the implementation of business continuity plans. By adhering to ISO SNI 31000 standards and OJK regulations, these companies effectively identify, measure, monitor, and manage eight key risks, including strategic, operational, and compliance risks. This study emphasizes that the implementation of integrated and continuous risk management not only strengthens the companies’ competitiveness but also enhances stakeholder confidence in addressing the challenges of the dynamic Islamic financing industry.

Abstract

This study analyzes the urgency of establishing a World Class Takāful Operator(WCTO), initiated by the National Committee on Islamic Finance and Economics (KNEKS). This is due to several reasons, including a deadline for work plans and the separation of Sharia Units in 2024, risk mitigation support to Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI), preparation of the ASEAN Framework Agreement On Services (AFAS) in 2025, strengthening halal value chain and improvement of the national insurance image. Using qualitative descriptive analysis, this study recommends the ideal concept (models, mechanisms, market segmentation and distribution channels) for WCTO formation. The ideal concept for WCTO requires the combination of social and commercial insurance, consolidation with portfolio transfers, retail and corporate balance and existing distribution channels with digitalization. This finding becomes a new insight into takafful literature.

Abstract

To analyze cash waqf as a preference for waqf by utilizing systematic literature review (SLR) and bibliometric analysis to identify and synthesize relevant articles from published national and international journals. Using an integrated analysis of Systematic Literature Review (SLR) and Bibliometric methods on 1,109 journal articles indexed in the Scopus database. The PRISMA protocol yielded 60 research articles eligible for review and synthesis related to cash waqf, with saturation achieved through 10 articles. Cash waqf can be an effective tool in driving economic growth. The publication and citation performance over the past ten years of observation is relatively high, with an average citation "h" index between 4 and 42 citations. Seven prominent clusters were identified: Islamic Social Finance and Cash Waqf Institutions, Cash Waqf Development, Cash Waqf Management, the function of Cash Waqf as a tool for improving community welfare, the government's role in supporting cash waqf management, the historical development of waqf along with Islamic financial institutions, and Islamic financial instruments and institutions. This study also reveals gaps in existing research, including the development of innovative cash waqf instruments, ethical management controls, broader poverty alleviation strategies, empowering financial markets in cash waqf development, and the utility of cash waqf as Islamic social finance. This study can be recommended as a consideration for the government, waqf management institutions, and other stakeholders in formulating policies and waqf empowerment programs that are more effective through the optimization of cash waqf, including through Sharia banking products linked to cash waqf, as well as innovative and digital cash waqf management. This forms the basis for analyzing waqf development and comparative studies on the effectiveness of cash waqf models

Abstract

This research aims to identify the types of human rights violations that have occurred in the Papua region and to analyze the government’s strategies for addressing each violation. The increase in conflicts related to human rights violations in Papua, particularly by separatist groups, has been marked by acts of discrimination against human rights activists and security task forces. These dynamics have further impeded national economic growth and infrastructure development. The purpose of this research is to understand the nature of human rights violations in the Papua region and to examine the government’s response to these violations amid evolving political developments in Papua. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach, analyzing 24 previous scientific articles published in reputable national and international journals from 2018 to 2025. Data were collected through searches on Google Scholar using the keyword Human Rights. The research concludes that addressing human rights issues in Papua requires deliberative dialogue conducted by the central government with all parties involved in the conflict, like the approach taken by the Indonesian government in resolving the GAM conflict.

Abstract

The new regulations from Otoritas Jasa Keuangan (OJK) of POJK No. 2/2024 and SEOJK No. 15/2024 require Islamic banks to support sharia compliance supervision by assigning three functions; Sharia Compliance, Sharia Internal Audit, and Sharia Risk Management. Therefore, the role of these three functions is an essential factor for Islamic banks in maintaining and mitigating the level of sharia compliance risk. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of supervision carried out by the three functions which are assessed from three attributes; namely Competence, Work Program, and Independence. The research data was obtained using a questionnaire method distributed to 10 islamic banks in Indonesia in 2025. The data then processed using SPSS software. The regression results show that the three attributes have a positive yet insignificant effect on the level of sharia compliance. This shows that in the adjustment phase with this new regulation, these three functions must have better competence, work programs, and independence in order to play a more effective role in supervising sharia compliance risks.

Abstract

Indonesia, as the country with the largest Muslim population in the world, has big aspirations to become a global halal industry hub. The halal industry encompasses various sectors – from food/beverages, Muslim fashion, halal tourism, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals to Islamic finance – all of which are run in accordance with sharia principles. A macroeconomic review of the development of the halal industry in Indonesia is important given its potential contribution to economic growth, job creation, and Indonesia's position in the global halal economy. This paper will examine five key aspects: the macroeconomic conditions of the halal industry in Indonesia and globally, government support, the role of young people, and a case study of the halal fashion industry, accompanied by a critical discussion of the pros and cons of halal industry development in Indonesia. This analysis draws on the findings of five key studies: AlBanna (2019), Hudaefi & Jaswir (2019), Rusydiana (2023), Julianti et al. (2024), and Rini et al. (2025), to provide an integrated and up-to-date academic perspective.
