Abstract

This study aims to describe the effectiveness and method of lectures that took place during the Covid-19 pandemic. The Covid-19 pandemic requires all aspects of life to adapt, including in the field of education. This research is a descriptive quantitative study with a simple survey method using an instrument in the form of a google form which was designed to find out what students and lecturers think about lectures during the Covid-19 pandemic. The opinion in question was an opinion about the method or media used as well as the difficulties faced in the implementation of online lectures during the pandemic. This study used a purposive sampling technique, namely 5 universities in Indonesia consisting of 200 lecturers and 200 students. All respondents were asked to fill out an online questionnaire in the form of a google form designed to find out the methods or media used in lectures as well as the difficulties faced in using the media. The survey results show that the combination of media that was mostly used by lecturers and students in lectures is Whatsapp Group, Zoom Meeting, campus E-Learning Website, and Google Classroom. The majority of difficulties experienced by lecturers and students in online implementation are the uneven quality of internet connections. Lecturers find it difficult to psychologically assess students who are attending lectures. Lecturers cannot ensure the seriousness of students in the lecture process. In addition, the lecturer also feels that it takes a lot of time in the matter of using the application or media technically, so it is quite disruptive to the course of lectures such as the slow pace of learning media and the length of time required for students to join in the meeting. Lecturers and students still consider online lectures to be ineffective

Abstract

This study aims to see the feasibility based on the assessment of material experts, linguists & education experts, the responses of educators and students as well as the effectiveness of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) based students’ worksheet to improve the critical thinking skills at VIII SMP students. The sample of this study was students of class VIII-10, totaling 30 people. this type of research is research and development (R&D) using the ADDIE model. The instrument used in this study consisted of a material expert validation questionnaire, linguist & education expert, a questionnaire for educators and students' responses. The test is in the form of an essay to measure the level of students' critical thinking skills on the human excretory system material. Based on the results of the study obtained data from material expert validation of 70.16, validation of linguists & education experts 69.04 with each in the appropriate category. The response of students in the small group trial with a sample of 3 people was 75.97%, while in the limited group trial the percentage of student responses with a sample of 30 people was 77.79% with each criterion very feasible, so based on the results of the students’ worksheet validation This is suitable for use in the learning process. Students’ worksheet which is designed effectively to improve students' critical thinking skills, the results of students' critical thinking skills are obtained with an average N-Gain value of 0.77 with high criteria.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of implementing the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model on the ability of scientific argumentation and how much influence the PBL learning model has on the scientific argumentation ability of students on environmental pollution material in class VII, 1st Junior High School Angkola Muaratais. This study uses a true experiment method with a pretest-posttest control group design. The population in this study were all students of class VII, with two samples, namely the experimental and control classes. There are two samples in this study, namely the experimental class and the control class. The sampling technique used is simple random sampling. Randomly selected samples were from classes VII-A and VII-B. The research instrument used is a scientific argumentation ability test instrument using five essay questions. Analysis of the data used in this study was performed by performing an independent sample t-test and a Cohen's d test. The results of the pretest showed that the initial abilities of students in grades VII-A and VII-B were the same. Class VII-A was chosen as the experimental class, and Class VII-B was chosen as the control class. After that, treatment was given using the PBL learning model in the experimental class and conventional learning using the lecture and question and answer method in the control class. Based on the posttest results, it was found that the PBL learning model had a significant effect on the ability of scientific argumentation on environmental pollution material in class VII 1st Junior High School Angkola Muaratais with a value of tcount > ttable (3.828 > 1.684) using the independent sample t-test test. The influence of the PBL learning model on students' scientific argumentation skills is categorized as strong, with a Cohen's d value of 1.168. It can be concluded that the PBL learning model can have a significant influence on students' scientific argumentation skills and the effect obtained is strong.

Abstract

To be able to teach scientific literacy to students, teachers need scientific literacy competencies and are in line with TPACK (Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge) competencies. This research was initial research in the development of learning models which aims to determine the extent of the TPACK abilities of science teachers in North Sumatra. The method used in this study was a qualitative descriptive method by describing data in the form of numbers and direct interviews. The instrument used was TPACK multiple choice questions that had been previously developed and proven valid to be able to measure the TPACK ability of science teachers which consisted of 40 questions. The research sample was determined by purposive sampling method. From the sampling results, 20 science teachers were selected from 10 junior high schools in North Sumatra
