Abstract

Writing instruction at the junior high school level requires the availability of modules that are aligned with the curriculum, relevant to the cultural context, and in line with developments in digital technology. Some of the teaching materials used in writing instruction are still conventional and do not integrate local cultural values or optimal digital features. This situation indicates a gap between the needs in the field and the availability of interactive and contextual teaching materials. This study aims to explore the needs of teachers and students in developing digital modules for writing non-literary texts based on local culture as a basis for developing innovative writing modules in junior high schools. The method used is a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through interviews, questionnaires, and documentation studies analyzed using triangulation. The participants in this study consisted of Indonesian language teachers and junior high school students. The results of the study indicate that teachers and students need writing modules that are interactive, accessible online, communicative, and equipped with step-by-step guides. Another important finding is the need for local cultural content that can foster creativity and a sense of belonging to regional identity. The novelty of this research lies in the development of digital modules that integrate local cultural content to foster students' creativity in writing and their appreciation of local cultural values. This finding emphasizes the importance of developing modules that are tailored to the needs of users. This research contributes to the study of contextual digital module design and writing learning innovation in the era of digital literacy.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to examine the feasibility and effectiveness of the development of electronic-book-based Critical and creative reading project to improve students ' critical thinking skills. This study was developed based on the Research and Development (R&D) model by Brog and Gall. The stages conducted in this study were (1) needs analysis, (2) planning, (3) development, (4) product validity, (5) revision, (6) response test, (7) revision, and (8) final product development. The product validity was assessed by two experts in teaching materials and graphs as the validators. The result of the validity assessment was then processed using the five-scale formula. The revision was done to meet the validators’ suggestions. Response test was conducted with students of the Indonesian Language Education Department of Universitas Ahmad Dahlan. The test results were processed using the AIKEN V formula. A revision was then made to meet students’ suggestions obtained from the test. At last, a trial was carried out to measure the effectiveness of the product in order to become the guideline to develop the final product. The research findings were as follows: (1) the lecturers and students in learning critical and creative reading in higher education expected teaching materials that were easily accessible, electronic, and collaborated with one of the learning models so that they were able to measure the success rate of the critical and creative reading process; (2) product development was carried out through the activities of designing materials, models and evaluations that were developed in a product, as well as designing electronic books in accordance with the results of the needs analysis; (3) the appropriateness test results by the material experts obtained 3.40 in the good category and the layout expert scored 4.65 with a very good category. The results of the response test for students after being calculated with the Aiken V formula obtained a score of 0.85 – 1.00 with a very good category. The results of the experimental test showed that the posttests of the control and experimental classes obtained results of 0.001, which showed <0.05, so H0 was rejected. Students' critical thinking skills after the treatment were significantly different. Therefore, the teaching material developed was effectively used to improve students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

Abstract

The physics laboratory plays an essential role in science learning as it supports experiments that enhance students’ conceptual understanding and learning interest. This study aimed to analyze the standardization level of the physics laboratory at SMA Negeri 1 Turi and its relationship with the learning interest of grade X and XI students. A descriptive method with a mixed-methods approach using an Explanatory Sequential design was employed through observation, questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that laboratory infrastructure (90%) and facilities (87%) were categorized as very good, while personnel (33%) were lacking and management (62.7%) was only sufficient. Laboratory implementation in learning scored (67.5%) in the good category, but its use as an assessment tool was not optimal. Questionnaires and interviews indicated that practicum activities increased students’ enthusiasm, although limited personnel and weak management made them irregular. Thus, the physics laboratory at SMA Negeri 1 Turi is very good in infrastructure and facilities but requires improvement in personnel and management to effectively support students’ learning interest. Keywords: laboratory standardization; management; learning interest; physics
