Abstract

Multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) poses a significant challenge to TB control efforts in Indonesia, primarily due to its complex, long-term treatment and significant drug side effects. To date, there is no comprehensive evaluation data on treatment outcomes and quality of life of MDR-TB patients at Raden Mattaher Regional Hospital, Jambi Province. This study aims to evaluate treatment outcomes and health-related quality of life in MDR-TB patients, as well as to identify predictors influencing therapy outcomes. This study used an observational   design with a retrospective approach, analyzing medical records of MDR-TB patients from 2020 to 2024. The WHOQOL-BREF instrument was used to measure quality of life. Bivariate and multivariate analyses were conducted to evaluate the association between patient characteristics and treatment outcomes. Most MDR-TB patients demonstrated successful treatment outcomes, but quality of life in the physical (score 45.2) and environmental (score 48.5) domains was relatively low. Side effects of second-line drugs, such as nausea, neuropathy, and hearing loss, contributed to the low physical domain scores. Multivariate test results showed that comorbid diabetes mellitus (DM) was a significant predictor of treatment outcomes (p = 0.007). The quality of life of MDR-TB patients at Raden Mattaher Regional Hospital in Jambi remains low, primarily influenced by side effects of therapy and the presence of comorbidities such as DM, which have been shown to impact treatment outcomes. More integrated interventions between TB management and comorbidities are urgently needed. Patients should be educated about side effects and the importance of treatment adherence. Hospitals are advised to improve side effect monitoring and integrate comorbidity management.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the basics of the idea of abolishing criminal justice in Indonesia and possible alternative solutions to problems that arise in prisons, especially from a theoretical perspective and comparison with Islamic law and customary law. The legal research method in this research is normative (doctrinal), research activities carried out include inventorying, explaining, interpreting and systematizing and broadcasting all Islamic law and customary law, which are related to the idea of abolishing prison sentences. The results of the research show that imprisonment is not recognized in the Islamic view, whereas currently imprisonment is acceptable only as long as the punishment provides a lot of benefits or kindness or benefits to society. Thus, imprisonment is not an absolute in the view of Islamic law. Based on the inventory of customary law as the original unwritten law of the Indonesian nation, no form of imprisonment was found. Therefore, without imprisonment, customary law can be enforced to maintain order and create justice in Indonesian society. From this analysis, especially related to the study of Islamic law and customary law, it is concluded that imprisonment can be considered for abolition if its shortcomings are more dominant than its benefits. Apart from that, the Indonesian Government should provide a forum for the idea of privatizing correctional institutions in the sense that the management of correctional institutions is carried out by private parties on a non-profit basis.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Fetal biometry is the cornerstone of modern prenatal care. This study aims to assess fetal size (fetal biometry at a given time point compared to normal charts) and estimate fetal weight (EFW) using the Hadlock formula. Methods: A descriptive retrospective study in order to establish fetal biometry in the third trimester of pregnancy and incorporated into Hadlock's formula to estimate fetal weight. Four fetal biometry measurements (BPD, HC, AC and FL) were collected from ultrasonography examination results in Raden Mattaher General Hospital. Data were documented using case report form and being tabulated using Microsoft Excel 2011 Version 14.7.0 (161029). All data were analyzed using SPSS 25.0. Results: There were 100 data of pregnant women who underwent fetal biometry ultrasound examinations from February 2021 to April 2023, 100 data samples were obtained that met the criteria for inclusion in the study. The data was distributed based on gestational age from 9 weeks to 41 weeks of gestation. Data on four biometric parameters were collected and calculated using Hadlock formula to obtain an estimate of fetal weight. In the study, it was estimated the weight of the fetus at the 33rd week of pregnancy was 1800 grams, which was in the 10-50 percentile on Hadlock curve. Conclusion: Assessment of fetal biometry is one of the main components of modern prenatal care. Accurate pregnancy dating is essential for further interpretation of both fetal size and growth. Measuring biometrics parameters, including Head Circumference (HC), Biparietal Diameter (BPD), Abdominal Circumference (AC), and Femur Length (FL), and combining them into an estimated fetal weight should be part of the routine ultrasound exam.

Abstract

The phenomenon of legal pluralism in Indonesia demonstrates the tension between customary justice rooted in local wisdom and the positive criminal law system dominated by retributive principles. This conflict often neglects the restorative dimension, where the resolution of criminal acts emphasizes the restoration of social relations rather than mere punishment. This research aims to uncover the philosophical foundations of customary-based restorative justice, while assessing its normative relevance in the context of national criminal justice. A normative juridical approach is applied through a philosophical examination of concepts such as social harmony in the Aristotelian tradition and the value of forgiveness in local culture, combined with an analysis of Indonesian legal norms. This study integrates customary ethical perspectives with modern principles of justice to evaluate how custom can become a more inclusive mechanism for criminal accountability. The research finds that customary restorative justice is philosophically grounded in culturally-based legal certainty and socially legitimate when aligned with constitutional principles, proportionality, and human rights. The 2023 New Criminal Code’s recognition of living law (Article 2) provides a formal basis for integrating customary mechanisms, which prioritize dialogue and reconciliation, thereby enhancing systemic effectiveness. This study contributes to legal reform by advocating for the formal inclusion of customary justice as a complementary approach that enriches Indonesia’s legal pluralism without compromising legality. The findings offer insights for developing more contextually just policies.

Abstract

Preeclampsia is a leading cause of maternal and perinatal complications. Preventive strategies based on local food resources offer a sustainable approach aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals. This study describes a community-based intervention integrating nutrition, health education, and periodic monitoring among pregnant women in the Puskesmas Tahtul Yaman area, located along the riverside in Jambi. The intervention applied the Health Belief Model to enhance perceived benefits and reduce barriers, the Theory of Planned Behavior to strengthen attitudes and behavioral control, and Knowles’ Adult Learning Theory for contextual learning. Activities were conducted in two phases. In the first phase (gestational age 26–28 weeks, trimester 2), pregnant women attended sessions on preeclampsia and safe fish consumption, supported by cooking demonstrations using nutrient-dense river fish. They received fish-based meals twice weekly for six weeks. Maternal health was monitored through blood pressure, weight gain, and symptoms, while fetal well-being was assessed by ultrasonography. The second phase, eight weeks later (trimester 3), repeated maternal examination and ultrasonography for follow-up of pregnancy. None of the participants developed hypertension, fetal growth matched gestational age, and mothers showed improved knowledge of preeclampsia and its prevention, particularly through fish consumption. This community-driven model demonstrates the effectiveness of combining local nutrition, adult learning strategies, and regular maternal-fetal monitoring. It highlights a feasible, culturally sensitive, and sustainable approach to strengthen maternal health and prevent preeclampsia in resource-limited settings.
