Abstract

Tomatoes are horticultural vegetables and one of the seasonal crops with a short harvest period. However, tomato production yields can be improved with adequate water channels and sunlight. Tomato cultivation by farmers has promising production results, especially in terms of income generated from tomato cultivation. The purpose of this study is to analyze strategies for increasing tomato production in Semende Darat Laut District, Muara Enim Regency. The results of the study show that IFAS and EFAS place the strategy for increasing tomato production in Quadrant I (SO) in the SWOT diagram with coordinate values (2.046; 1.964). This position indicates very favorable conditions, so the most appropriate strategy to apply is an aggressive strategy (SO), which is to utilize all internal strengths to capture and maximize external opportunities. This strategy is aimed at optimizing land use, increasing productivity through the application of technology, strengthening farmer institutions, and utilizing government support and market opportunities to increase production, competitiveness, and sustainability of tomato farming in Semende Darat Laut Subdistrict, Muara Enim Regency.

Abstract

Fragmentation is agricultural land that is scattered or not in one whole area of land. Based on the results of the study using formula calculations, the level of food security for rice farming households experiencing land fragmentation in Buay Madang Timur District was 49.78% of total household expenditure. That is, according to the criteria, if the share of household food expenditure is 60%, household is said to be food insecure. Thus the tolerance value for the percentage share of household food expenditure is 60% assuming the ideal value of the share of household food expenditure is 49.78% of total household expenditure, meaning food security. Factors that affect the food security of rice farmers who experience land fragmentation in Buay Madang Timur District, OKU Timur Regency are land area (x1), access to food (x2), income (x3), price (x4) have a significant effect while length of education (x5 ) has no real effect.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to analyze the level of household food security among rubber farmers in Lubuk Raja District, Ogan Komering Ulu Regency, using the proportion of food expenditure as an indicator of food security. Methodology/Approach: A survey method was employed in January 2024. The population consisted of 300 rubber farmers owning approximately 1 hectare of land. Using the Slovin formula with a 10% margin of error, 70 respondents were selected through simple random sampling. Results: The findings show that the average monthly food expenditure of rubber farmer households was IDR. 1,328,204, while non-food expenditure averaged IDR. 1,434,749, resulting in a total household expenditure of IDR. 2,762,953 per month. The proportion of food expenditure reached 48.07%, which is below the 60% threshold commonly used to indicate food security. Conclusions: Rubber farmer households in Lubuk Raja District can be classified as food secure, as reflected by their relatively low proportion of food expenditure. Despite fluctuations in rubber prices, the structure of household income and expenditure indicates adequate access to food. Limitations: his study is limited to the use of food expenditure proportion as the sole indicator of food security and focuses only on rubber farmers with 1-hectare land ownership in a single district. Contributions: This research contributes empirical evidence on household food security conditions among rubber farmers in rural Indonesia and provides useful insights for policymakers in designing targeted agricultural and food security programs, particularly in regions highly dependent on plantation commodities.

The research employed a survey method with a census sampling technique involving all agarwood farmers. The analytical tools used were the Internal Factor Evaluation (IFE) matrix, External Factor Evaluation (EFE) matrix, and SWOT analysis to determine strategic positioning. The study was conducted in January 2026. The results indicate that internal factors include the availability of potential land resources, farmers’ experience, and the development of farmer institutions. External factors consist of market demand, relatively high and stable prices, government support, post-harvest processing potential, and partnership opportunities, while threats include price fluctuations, strict trade regulations, pests and diseases, climate change, and competition. Based on the SWOT and IE matrix analysis, agarwood farming is positioned in Quadrant I (aggressive strategy). The recommended strategy is the development of post-harvest processing to enhance value added and competitiveness in a sustainable manner.
