Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop Animiz Animation Maker as teaching media for writing descriptive text for the tenth grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Medang Deras. This study was classified as a Research and Development (R & D) study due to the result in the form of a product, which was derived from Borg and Gall (2003) theory with some modifications. The tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Medang Deras were the subjects of this study. The procedures in carrying out this study included conducting a need analysis, determining the material, designing the first draft of media, revising the media, and producing the final product as an animation video. The data collection instruments were a combination of two strategies: interviews and questionnaires. The results of the interviews were examined as qualitative data, while the questionnaires were analyzed as quantitative data. These were student needs that included both target and learning needs. This study developed writing media based solely on descriptive text taught in the first semester. Abstract

This study was about Speaking Classroom Interaction Based on Initiation-Response-Feedback (IRF) Model for Grade VIII at SMP Negeri 16 Medan. The aim of this study were to state clearly the objectives of the study in relation of the problem posed. The objective was to describe how the pattern of IRF in the speaking classroom interaction for students grade VIII at SMP Negeri 16 Medan. This research used qualitative research. The data were collected in two ways by observing by video recording and interviewing. The data was analyzed based on Sinclair and Coulthard theory (1975). The results of this study were the following (1) The language used by the teacher and the students in the classroom interaction was not balance. They are seldom to use English. Both teacher and students used Bahasa for 57% and the rest 43% they use English. (2) The lowest pattern was the teacher’s feedback. It had 22% feedback given by the teacher to the students. The students’ response was the dominant pattern in the classroom interaction rather than initiation. The students’ response had 44%, while the teacher’s initiation had 34%. This pattern happened when the teacher asked students the examples of using ‘can’ and to do some exercises of using ‘can’ in sentences.

Abstract

This study deals with developing the writing paragraph through quickwriting for junior high school at smp swasta pahlawan nasional. The objectives of this study were to find out to improve the students’ ability in writing paragraph of grade VIII students by using quickwriting strategy. Data data of the research was taken from the secondary grade of Junior High School Students at SMP Swasta Pahlawan Nasional Medan, which is taken from one class, contain 33 student. The data in this research collected by using interview and questionnaire. The interview and questionnaire will be given to collect the students’ need, problem and interesting in learning English, particularly in writing and using quick writing in teaching and learning.  In the teaching-learning process the teacher should prepare before conducting the lesson. The first is classroom procedures in teaching-learning process. Classroom procedures used by English teacher are opening, quickwriting, main activities (exploration-elaboration-confirmation), closing. There are some problems faced in the teaching-learning process. The problems faced are problem in developing idea, organizing idea, difficulties in vocabulary, tenses, and grammar, different capability of the students, and limited time. The consequently, the teacher should give solutions to cope the problems faced in teaching-learning process. So, the teacher should be creative to minimize the problem faced in teaching-learning process in order to make the students enjoy with the materials and develop student’s ability. Keywords : writing paragraph, quickwriting

Abstract

This research aims to determine the feasibility, practicality, and effectiveness of Flash Card Comic learning media for "Greetings and Leave Taking" material in Grade IV at SDN 060872 Medan. This study utilizes the Research and Development (R&D) method following the ADDIE model (Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). The subjects of this research include media experts, material experts, educational practitioners, and 20 fourth-grade students. The object of the research is the Flash Card Comic media, designed to improve students' understanding of English greetings and farewell expressions. The results of the study indicate that in terms of feasibility, the media obtained a score of 81.81% from media experts ("Feasible" category) and 93.3% from material experts ("Highly Feasible" category). In terms of practicality, questionnaire results showed that the media was rated as "Highly Practical" by educational practitioners. Regarding effectiveness, based on a comparison of pre-test and post-test scores, there was an increase in the average score from 39.75% to 73.75%. Based on an N-Gain analysis of 57.18%, the Flash Card Comic media is categorized as "Effective" in improving student learning outcomes.
