Abstract

This research aims to explore students' mathematical anxiety in solving mathematical Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) problems. This research was motivated by the high mathematical anxiety of students and a curriculum that requires students to have various abilities and skills in the 21st century. All of these abilities and skills are contained in the HOTS mathematics questions. This research is a qualitative descriptive research. The research subjects were students in class VII.1 of SMP Negeri 1 Kec. Kapur IX was selected using a purposive sampling technique. The researcher is the key instrument, while the HOTS mathematics test which contains two description questions, a mathematical anxiety questionnaire, and an interview guide are the supporting instruments of this research. The stages of data analysis are reduction, presentation in narrative form, and conclusion. This research found that students whose mathematical anxiety was dominant in the cognitive aspect (way of thinking) had different answer results to HOTS mathematics questions. Students feel less confident, don't concentrate, and feel unsure of their abilities in working on HOTS mathematics questions.

Abstract

This study aims to develop and produce valid and practical teaching materials on circles using GeoGebra for students and teachers in grade XI at MAN 2 Tanah Datar. The research method used was Research and Development (R&D) by adapting the 4D development model, which was limited to three main stages, namely Define, Design, and Develop. Data collection instruments included a validation sheet for experts and a practicality questionnaire. The data analysis technique used was a percentage formula for validity analysis and practicality analysis. The results showed that the teaching materials developed had a validity level of 87.12% with a very valid criterion. The level of practicality through trials at MAN 2 Tanah Datar showed an average student response score of 85.13% (very practical) and a teacher response of 79.63% (practical). Based on these results, it can be concluded that this GeoGebra-assisted Circle teaching material is feasible and very practical to use as a support for the mathematics learning process at the school. The implication of this research is the availability of interactive learning media that can help students visualize circle concepts with the aid of technology.
