In the novel, the circumstantial plays an important role in explaining the process in the storyline. The purpose of this study is to describe the types and forms of circumstan in the Arabic-English translation of Al-Ajnichah Al-Mutakassirah by Khalil Gibran. The analysis of circumstance is related to translation theory, namely technique, shift, method, and ideology of translation. This research belongs to descriptive qualitative research by applying a combination of SFL and translation studies. Data collection was customized to the characteristics of language research, i.e. using note-taking technique. The data analysis technique used a combination of two analysis models, namely the interactive analysis model (Miles and Huberman) and content analysis (Spradley). The result of this study shows that there are 9 types of circumstances in the Arabic-English translation of Al-Ajnichah Al-Mutakassirah novel. Circumstance types are dominated by location circumstance types. The form of circumstance found consists of 3 forms which are dominated by phrases. The application of translation techniques can be found in a total of 896 data of translation techniques with 15 types of translation techniques dominated by the application of established equivalent techniques. Translation shift occurs at the level of circumstance type and form, totaling 5 data and 31 data respectively. Based on the results of the 3 experts' validation tests showed that the TTCT-Verbal instrument was very valid, with an average of 4.5, and then tested on 30 university students. The results of the instrument validity test showed that all items were valid, and the reliability test showed reliable results. Therefore, this instrument is suitable for measuring the level of creative thinking and Arabic creative writing.

Abstract

This writing aims to synthesize the misrepresentation strategy presented by the MUI in its fatwa on Shia. This writing is a descriptive qualitative type with a critical paradigm approach. The data sources for this writing are the Central Indonesian Ulema Council's 1984 Fatwa on Shia Beliefs and the 2012 East Java Provincial Indonesian Ulema Council's Fatwa on the Deviance of Shia Teachings. The research data consists of the vocabulary and grammar utilized and selected by the MUI in the fatwa on Shia. This issue is examined through Norman Fairclough's critical discourse analysis, including the experiential value and relational value of vocabulary and grammar. The results of this research show that the MUI, in its fatwa on Shia, displays and orchestrates with an excommunication approach. The fatwa succeeds in expressing the practice of domination by the fatwa producers over the followers of Shia beliefs. The fatwa successfully becomes a discourse that holds power. This is represented through linguistic units referenced to Shia beliefs. The MUI chooses and supports Sunni beliefs while marginalizing Shia beliefs. The representation of the linguistic units utilized by the MUI presents Shia beliefs as incorrect while portraying Sunni beliefs as correct. This shows the presence of misrepresentation or incorrect depiction by the text producers. This strategy is called a misrepresentation strategy. The model of misrepresentation employed by the MUI includes marginalization, delegitimization, and exclusivity.MISREPRESENTATION OF THE INDONESIAN ULEMA COUNCILIN FATWAS ON SHI'A: NORMAN FAIRCLOUGH MODEL OF CRITICAL DISCOURSE ANALYSIS

Abstract

This study examined the translation of the information structure in Arabic into Indonesian. The transfer of information structure in the two typologically different languages will cause various kinds of problems. Arabic is a flexion type, while Indonesian is agglutinative type. This study investigated two main things: how is the form of the information structure of Themes and Rhemes in Arabic (SL) and Indonesian (TL), then how the information structure is developed in a pattern of development of themes (thematic progression), whether there will be a shift in translation from Source Language (Arabic) to Target language (Indonesian). The research method used in the study is divided into three main stages, the first stage of data collection using the observation method of linguistic units found in Al-Hikam aphorisms (Arabic - Indonesian). The second stage of data analysis using the Spradley model, namely: domain analysis, taxonomic analysis, componential analysis, and analysis of cultural themes. The third stage is reporting the results using a narrative form which is expected to be the basis for recommendations for translators to be more careful and pay attention to the details of the information structure in the translation process. Keywords: Al-Hikam Aphorism, Arabic-Indonesian Translation, Information Structure, Theme-Rheme.

Abstract

Lubab Al-Hadith Arabic-Javanese is one of the books that contains the hadith, or message, of the Prophet and is commonly used in Islamic education, such as in Islamic boarding schools. This study aims to examine the grammatical equivalence, specifically how the translator can maintain the verb from Arabic grammatical form to Javanese grammatical form, and to compare the translation quality of the two versions of the book. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method, and data collection is through observation with note-taking. The result of this study shows that from 94 data of Triliteral Verbs (TV), four main derivation patterns were found, namely fa'ala-yaf'ulu as many as 34 (36.17%), fa'ala-yaf'ilu as many as 27 (28.72%), fa'ala-yaf'alu as many as 18 (19.15%) and fa'ila-yaf'ilu as many as 15 (15.96%) and related to the analysis of the five aspects of grammatical equivalence with an almost balanced distribution in both translation versions, with a slight difference. The quality assessment of both versions of the translator yields average scores of 2.9 and 2.8, which are categorized as high.

Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze the structure, function, translation techniques, methods, and ideology applied in the translation of three-word lexical bundles found in the book At-Taqrib Matan Abi Syuja’ (The Abridged Manual of Islamic Law by Abū Shujāʿ). In addition, this study seeks to reveal how recurring linguistic patterns in classical Arabic religious discourse interact with translation strategies and ideological orientation in the target language. This research is driven by the linguistic uniqueness of Arabic word groups, which differ significantly from those in other languages, such as English and Indonesian, in both their structural formation and communicative function. These differences create considerable challenges for translators, particularly when dealing with religious texts that require high levels of accuracy, consistency, and cultural sensitivity. To address this issue, a descriptive qualitative approach was used, involving data recording and sampling techniques to collect Arabic three-word groups, which were then analyzed using domain, taxonomy, component, and cultural theme analyses. The data were obtained from the chapter on prayer in At-Taqrib, as this section contains a high density of formulaic expressions related to time, procedure, and legal instruction. The findings show that most three-word lexical bundles appear in the form of prepositional phrases that function primarily as markers of location and time in the text. These forms are followed by noun phrases and verb phrases, each contributing specific discourse functions within the legal explanation. These patterns indicate that Arabic lexical bundles not only fulfill syntactic purposes but also play a crucial role in forming text cohesion and conveying contextual meaning. From a translation perspective, translators tend to emphasize the source language through frequent use of literal and semantic translation techniques, with limited application of communicative or idiomatic methods. This preference reflects the translators’ intention to preserve the original meaning, structure, and religious authority of the source text. It reflects an ideology of foreignization that aims to preserve the linguistic and cultural features of the Arabic text while minimizing adaptation to the target language. Such ideological positioning is particularly important in the translation of Islamic legal texts, where deviation from the source may affect theological interpretation. Overall, this study provides insight into the complex relationship between linguistic form, translation strategies, and ideological attitudes. The results show that translators' preference for source-oriented methods contributes to maintaining the sacred tone and authenticity of the text in religious discourse.
