Abstract

This research aimed to describe the psychomotor skills of pre-service teachers of natural science on Melde’s Experiment through guided inquiry learning. Psychomotor skills were assessed by observation during students conduct the Melde’ s experiment. This research method used was descriptive quantitative in which the authors described the research variables from the collected data. The study was conducted on a pre-service natural science teacher who learns the Optic and Geometry Course. The data analysis uses descriptive statistical. The results showed that the psychomotor skills of pre-service teachers of natural science are categorized as very good in manipulation, good in precision and articulation; fair in imitation and naturalization domain. The lowest category of psychomotor indicators is naturalization. Naturalization is doing related activities according to the skills that are owned, a sample designing experiment with different variables. Different variables with the module make the prospective teacher’s students think hard to create the experimental draft, consequently, the experimental design and findings are not equal to the theory. Further research is expected to have a learning model that is capable of training better psychomotor skills.

This type of research includes quantitative research with comparative causal types with correlation analysis techniques. Data collection was obtained through questionnaires and documentation of students cognitive learning outcomes, the sample used was 29 students. The object of the research was the seventh grade students at SMP Sepuluh Nopember Sidoarjo. The results showed that the students` perceptions of the science learning environment in the high category were 6 students, 18 students in the medium category and 5 students in the low category. And the cognitive learning outcomes of students with complete categories of 15 students and incomplete categories of 14 students. Then the calculation was carried out through the correlation hypothesis test, the results of this calculation obtained significant results, namely 0,237< 0,05 and significant 0,216< 0,05, so this indicated that there was a positive relationship between students` perceptions of the science learning environment and student cognitive learning outcomes.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to develop instructional package using 5E model of instruction to foster students scientific reasoning. The instructional package consisting of lesson plan, handout, students worksheet, and scientific reasoning test was developed by using the four-D model. Subject of research in this study was instructional package using 5E model of instruction which was tried out on tenth grade students of SMAN 15 Surabaya. The tryout was conducted by using the one-group pre-test post- test design. This study used three techniques for collecting data, namely observation, test, and questionnaire. The obtained data were processed with descriptive qualitative analysis. The findings revealed that the developed instructional package reflecting th e 5E model was valid to be implemented in classroom, the completion of the lesson plan was categorized excellent, and students were engaged actively in the instruction of the 5E model as shown by their dominant activities namely performing experiment and discussion. The other findings showed that the 5E model of instruction is effective to foster students scientific reasoning skills and students gave positive responses to the implementation of the developed instructional package. However, there were obstacles that teacher and students faced during instructional process. Regarding to the findings, then it can be concluded that the developed instructional package reflecting 5E model of instruction is effective to be implemented to foster students scientific reasoning.

Abstract

Kata Kunci: Problem Based Learning and Scientific Reasoning

Abstract

This study developed an instrument for assessing undergraduate students’ teamwork skills in designing and creating team product in the context of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) learning. The development stage follows the stages of the R & D method developed by Barg and Gall. Teamwork skills instrument that has been declared valid qualitatively and quantitively as well as are implemented in STEM project-based learning using one shot-case study design in three different courses. The teamwork skills are measured based on self-assessments, peer-assessment, and facilitator evaluations. The scores obtained from three sources of assessment are analyzed, using descriptive statistics and ANOVA. The results show that the teamwork skill instrument is valid and reliable to measure the students’ collaborative skills in the STEM Project. In addition, the results of the three assessments showed that The STEM project-based learning is effectively able to train students' teamwork skills

Abstract

This pre-experimental quantitative study aimed to investigate the impact of a POE (Predict, Observe, Explain) learning model based on a simple tool practicum on student learning outcomes. The research was conducted at SMP Negeri 2 Gedangan, with one experimental class and two replication classes. Non-probability random sampling was employed to select the participants. The assessment instrument consisted of multiple-choice questions to measure learning outcomes. Data analysis included the N-Gain test and paired sample t-test. The findings revealed that the N-Gain scores for all three classes were in the moderate category, and the paired sample t-test showed a significant increase in learning outcomes (p < 0.05) in each class. The results suggest that implementing the simple tool practicum-based POE learning model positively influences student learning outcomes. This study contributes to the field of education by highlighting an effective approach to enhance student learning through hands-on experiences and the application of the POE model. Highlights: The study focuses on enhancing student learning outcomes through a POE learning model and a simple tool practicum. The research employs a quantitative approach, utilizing the N-Gain test to assess the effectiveness of the intervention. The findings demonstrate a significant improvement in student learning outcomes, highlighting the potential of the simple tool practicum-based POE learning model. Keywords: Student learning outcomes, POE learning model, Simple tool practicum, Quantitative research, N-Gain test.
