Abstract

This study developed an instrument for assessing undergraduate students’ teamwork skills in designing and creating team product in the context of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) learning. The development stage follows the stages of the R & D method developed by Barg and Gall. Teamwork skills instrument that has been declared valid qualitatively and quantitively as well as are implemented in STEM project-based learning using one shot-case study design in three different courses. The teamwork skills are measured based on self-assessments, peer-assessment, and facilitator evaluations. The scores obtained from three sources of assessment are analyzed, using descriptive statistics and ANOVA. The results show that the teamwork skill instrument is valid and reliable to measure the students’ collaborative skills in the STEM Project. In addition, the results of the three assessments showed that The STEM project-based learning is effectively able to train students' teamwork skills

Abstract

This pre-experimental quantitative study aimed to investigate the impact of a POE (Predict, Observe, Explain) learning model based on a simple tool practicum on student learning outcomes. The research was conducted at SMP Negeri 2 Gedangan, with one experimental class and two replication classes. Non-probability random sampling was employed to select the participants. The assessment instrument consisted of multiple-choice questions to measure learning outcomes. Data analysis included the N-Gain test and paired sample t-test. The findings revealed that the N-Gain scores for all three classes were in the moderate category, and the paired sample t-test showed a significant increase in learning outcomes (p < 0.05) in each class. The results suggest that implementing the simple tool practicum-based POE learning model positively influences student learning outcomes. This study contributes to the field of education by highlighting an effective approach to enhance student learning through hands-on experiences and the application of the POE model. Highlights: The study focuses on enhancing student learning outcomes through a POE learning model and a simple tool practicum. The research employs a quantitative approach, utilizing the N-Gain test to assess the effectiveness of the intervention. The findings demonstrate a significant improvement in student learning outcomes, highlighting the potential of the simple tool practicum-based POE learning model. Keywords: Student learning outcomes, POE learning model, Simple tool practicum, Quantitative research, N-Gain test.

Abstract

Education is a learning process conducted in schools as formal educational institutions to equip students with the skills and awareness needed for developing interests and talents while fostering independence. Education should be capable of generating ideas or works that contribute to the advancement of a nation, one of which is character education. The Research and Development Agency of the Ministry of Education and Culture has formulated 18 values encompassed within character education, one of which is environmental care. This objective can be achieved through project-based learning utilizing used cooking oil to create aromatherapy candles. The method employed in this endeavor is a practical approach, in which the author plays the role of a teacher or facilitator at the ICC Ladang Kosma, conducting project-based learning activities. The outcome of this initiative is that students at ICC Ladang Kosma acquire new knowledge and experiences regarding the positive and negative impacts of producing aromatherapy candles from used cooking oil, indirectly instilling character education among the students.

Abstract

Data collection in this study aims to describe the effect of the experiential learning model on improving student's science process skills. The factor that causes low science process skills is that teachers. The experiential learning model is a learning model that implements a direct student learning process. This study uses a quantitative approach with experimental methods. The type of research research is a one-group pre-test and post-test design. The sample in this study was using a saturated sampling of 22 students. The research instrument is science process skills (KPS) test questions oriented to description and multiple choice questions. Data were analyzed descriptively quantitatively by normality test for normal data testing and normalized gain-score test to see the improvement of students' KPS. In addition, it is known how much the KPS increase using the N-Gain Test is 0.51, with a moderate category included in the normalized gain criteria of 0.3 ≥ g ≤ 0.7. Based on the results of the research data obtained, the average score on the pre-test was 59.09, while the average score on the post-test showed an increase to 80. This research proves that learning using the Experiential Learning model can make students understand the material in depth, which is taught through the search process carried out by students.

Abstract

Abstract

Incorporating ethnoscience into lessons through the ethnoscience-students’ worksheet (ESW) is one method to improve student interest in science learning while introducing them to the local culture. However, no research was reported the effects of ESW on students' responses and the factors that influence ESW implementation in science learning. In order to better understand how students learn through ESW, this study investigated the relationship between ethnoscience context, science learning, and the implementation of students’ worksheets. Seventy-two students participated in the survey after they studied ethnoscience learning through ESW. Students’ responses are more influenced by science learning. In addition, the ethnoscience-integrated students’ worksheets (SW) variable indirectly affects students’ responses. Additionally, ESW affects students' responses more significantly than science learning and ethnoscience. This research provides insightful implications for educators on planning, designing, and practicing ESW to enhance students’ problem-solving motivation and academic achievement. Furthermore, to contribute significantly to future researchers, further research employed the structural equation model through covariance analysis, also known as confirmatory factor analysis (CFA).
