Abstract

Education is a learning process conducted in schools as formal educational institutions to equip students with the skills and awareness needed for developing interests and talents while fostering independence. Education should be capable of generating ideas or works that contribute to the advancement of a nation, one of which is character education. The Research and Development Agency of the Ministry of Education and Culture has formulated 18 values encompassed within character education, one of which is environmental care. This objective can be achieved through project-based learning utilizing used cooking oil to create aromatherapy candles. The method employed in this endeavor is a practical approach, in which the author plays the role of a teacher or facilitator at the ICC Ladang Kosma, conducting project-based learning activities. The outcome of this initiative is that students at ICC Ladang Kosma acquire new knowledge and experiences regarding the positive and negative impacts of producing aromatherapy candles from used cooking oil, indirectly instilling character education among the students.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to determine the learning outcomes before and after the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model and to determaine the effect of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model on the cognitive learning outcomes of fifth grade science at SDN Candinegoro. The research method used is quantitative with the type of pre-experimental research and the design uses a one-grup pretest posttest design. The population of this study were all 32 grade students of SDN Candinegoro. The sample was taken using saturated sampling. Data collection techniques used in the form of tests and research instruments in the form of pretest and posttest sheets. The results showed that (1) learning outcomes before the application of the PBL model obtained an average of 39 with low achievement categories, learning outcomes after the application of PBL obtained an average of 81 with very high categories, (2) The results of the N-Gain calculation before an after the application of the model show a moderate effect, then the percentage classically the acquisition of N-Gain of 0,71% gets the medium category.

Abstract

This study investigates the attitudes towards STEM among junior high school students at Muhammadiyah Sidoarjo in Indonesia, focusing on exploring the degree of attitude towards STEM and examining the relationship between STEM dimensions. Using a survey method with 85 students from a population of 326, the research found that students' attitudes were most pronounced in the integrated STEM dimension, followed by engineering, technology, science, and mathematics. However, correlations between certain STEM dimensions and STEM itself were inconsistent, highlighting nuances in students' perceptions. These findings contribute to enhancing STEM education strategies, particularly in schools with integrated STEM-based learning, and suggest avenues for further research in broader educational contexts. Highlight: Examining STEM attitudes in Muhammadiyah Sidoarjo's junior high. Analyzing correlations between STEM dimensions and their implications. Abstract

This study investigates junior high school students' attitudes towards science and their misconceptions regarding temperature changes, aiming to understand the relationship between these two factors. Conducted at SMP Muhammadiyah 6 Krian with 93 seventh-grade students, the research utilizes non-experimental quantitative methods, including questionnaires and statistical analyses. Findings reveal that while students exhibit generally positive attitudes towards scientific investigation, misconceptions about temperature changes are low. However, the correlation between students' attitudes towards science and their misconceptions is observed to be low. These results underscore the importance of addressing both attitudes and misconceptions in science education to optimize learning outcomes.Highlight: Investigates student attitudes and misconceptions about temperature changes in science. Positive attitudes but low misconceptions found in junior high students. Correlation between attitudes and misconceptions in science education explored. Abstract

This study explores students' attitudes towards STEM and the relationship between STEM dimensions in Muhammadiyah Sidoarjo Junior High School, which implements STEM-based science learning. Through a survey of 85 students, it was found that students' attitudes were most dominant in the integrated STEM dimension and lowest in mathematics. However, the correlation between STEM dimensions varied, with technology and engineering showing no correlation with mathematics. These findings suggest that educators can leverage students' positive attitudes towards integrated STEM activities to improve engagement and learning outcomes. Furthermore, understanding the lack of correlation between certain STEM dimensions can inform curriculum adjustments for more effective integration of these disciplines in junior high school education. Hightligh: Strong preference for integrated STEM. Varied correlation between STEM dimensions. Informs curriculum adjustments for effective integration. Keywords: STEM education, attitudes, Muhammadiyah Sidoarjo Junior High School, correlation, curriculum development
