Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The concept of Desa Aman, Sehat, dan Rindang (Desa ASRI), or Safe, Healthy, and Green Village, is an initiative aimed at creating a prosperous and sustainable village environment by prioritizing health, security, and environmental conservation. This program, initiated by the TIM PPK ORMAWA HIMAKESMAS FKM UTU in Purwodadi Village, includes various activities designed to enhance the quality of life for the community. One of the key components is the Waste Bank, which not only serves as a waste management facility but also supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by encouraging residents to sort and recycle organic and inorganic waste. Additionally, the production of eco-enzymes, derived from the fermentation of organic materials, provides an environmentally friendly cleaning solution that helps reduce pollution. The vertiminaponic program, which combines fish farming with vegetable cultivation in household gardens, plays a crucial role in supporting local food security and economic resilience. These initiatives are further reinforced by the village qanun, a local regulation that ensures each program is implemented effectively and sustainably. Through collaboration and active community participation, Desa ASRI aims to create a safe, healthy, and green environment that benefits local residents while also attracting tourists and promoting broader environmental awareness.

Abstract

Brown rice is recognized as a food commodity with high nutritional value and considerable health benefits for humans. However, its cultivation remains relatively limited in popularity and is often associated with low productivity, particularly when grown on marginal lands such as coastal areas affected by high salinity. This study aimed to evaluate the adaptive responses in growth and yield performance of several local brown rice genotypes under salinity stress conditions in the coastal region of Pantai Cermin, Serdang Bedagai Regency, North Sumatra. The research was conducted using a non-factorial Randomized Block Design (RBD) involving eight local brown rice genotypes: Beras Merah, Sidrap Merah, Kelik-3, Mesuji, Sijior, Sipenget, Meulaboh, and Si Tappe. The observed parameters included plant height, number of leaves, number of tillers, number of productive tillers, root fresh weight, root length, grain weight, and panicle length. The results indicated that varietal treatments had a statistically significant effect on all observed parameters, except for the number of leaves. The Sijior genotype exhibited the greatest plant height (58.22 cm), while the Meulaboh genotype recorded the highest values for the number of tillers (29.3), number of productive tillers (28.0), and root length (20.7 cm). The Kelik-3 genotype demonstrated the highest root fresh weight (173.3 g), whereas the Si Tappe genotype showed superior performance in grain weight (62.0 g) and panicle length (31.7 cm).Overall, comprehensive analysis of the data suggests that the Si Tappe, Beras Merah, Kelik-3, and Meulaboh genotypes exhibited the most favorable adaptive responses and demonstrated a high degree of tolerance to salinity stress. The robust root development observed in the Meulaboh and Kelik-3 genotypes supports their adaptability to saline environments, while the extended panicle length in Si Tappe positively contributed to enhanced grain weight.

Abstract

This study was conducted to document and to describe the diversity of plant species along the trail of the Botanical Forest Park (Tahura) in North of Sumatra. The research employed an exploratory survey method using a transect approach, with species identification based on observable morphological characteristics in the field. Observations recorded a total of 114 plant species categorized as cultivated or agricultural plants, predominantly found in areas near settlements. In contrast, within zones of natural vegetation, 106 plant species were identified, distributed across 48 different families. These findings reflect a high level of floral diversity in Tahura Medan area, encompassing both native vegetation and cultivated species. Such biodiversity is not only essential for supporting environmental conservation efforts but also holds strategic value as a resource for tropical ecology education, particularly within urban settings.
