Abstract

The demand for formal English proficiency both in academic and professional environments highlights the critical role of Standard English Grammar in building effective communication and professional identity. This study investigates how EFL students in a university’s English Language Education Study Program perceive the importance of standard grammar in professional contexts. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected from first-semester undergraduate EFL students (N=40) through a structured questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. The questionnaire combined Likert-scale items with open-ended questions, while the interviews provided deeper insights into students’ experiences and expectations regarding the teaching of grammar in their classroom. Findings show that the majority of students recognize standard grammar as essential for maintaining credibility and professionalism, especially in tasks such as academic writing, formal email correspondence, job interviews, and public speaking. However, a significant gap exists between students’ awareness of the importance of grammatical aspect and their ability to apply it effectively in real-world contexts. The analysis also identifies students’ concerns about the de-contextualized nature of grammar instruction and their preference for contextual, task-based learning approaches that simulate professional communication. The study underscores the need to align Grammar curricula with professional demands by embedding grammar instruction into authentic learning materials. These findings have implications for the development of EFL curriculum, emphasizing the integration of grammatical competence with professional literacy. By rethinking the grammar instruction through a contextualized lens, educators are expected to support students in constructing confident professional identities.

Abstract

Creativity plays a crucial role in innovation, problem-solving, and both individual and societal advancement, enabling individuals to generate novel ideas, develop effective solutions, and approach challenges with adaptability. The SCAMPER technique is used to foster creative and innovative thinking, providing a structured method for idea generation and refinement. SCAMPER encompasses seven creative strategies: Substitute, Combine, Adapt, Modify, Put to Another Use, Eliminate, and Reverse. This study examines students' perceptions of SCAMPER in developing creative writing skills within English for Specific Purposes (ESP) classes. A qualitative case study method was employed, involving second-semester students from the Informatics Engineering Study Program enrolled in Intermediate English courses. Data collection methods included semi-structured interviews and questionnaires, providing insights into students’ experiences with SCAMPER in writing procedural texts. The findings reveal that the SCAMPER technique enhances creativity, cognitive flexibility, and innovation in writing, enabling students to produce varied and explorative texts. Furthermore, the approach supports critical thinking and deeper idea exploration. Although some students struggled with adapting to the creative thinking process, the overall response to SCAMPER was positive, highlighting its potential as an effective tool in ESP learning environments.

Abstract

Daging ayam broiler banyak dikembangkan menjadi produk siap masak (ready to cook) salah satunya menjadi ayam rebus tradisional Indonesia ‘ungkep’.

Since its opening on March 2021, Kemiri Tourism Village was, still, facing a number of problematic issues. The decreasing number of visitors was an alarming sign for the destination. Investigating the current condition of the tourism village was essential to get a comprehensive picture of what really happened. Based on that purpose, this case study was conducted by utilizing the concept of 4 As tourism components covering attraction, accessibility, amenities, and ancillary. The data was collected through interview with Kelompok Sadar Wisata (Pokdarwis), tourism awareness group, of Kemiri, observation to the destination, and content analysis on visitors’ reviews and other accessible sources regarding the tourism village. The results of the data analysis showed that the tourism village faced a number of issues based on the 4 As tourism components. Regarding the attraction, the tourism village needed to discover its unique attractiveness to make the destination distinctive from other tourism villages. In addition, when dealing with amenities, Kemiri Tourism Village should make a big effort to rebuild the destination due to the fact that there were a number of facilities that did not exist any longer when compared to its initial condition. Widening and strengthening partnerships were also essential to achieve better networking that would be beneficial to improve promotions.
