Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has forced stakeholders to find the best way to carry out student learning activities through online learning as the best solution during the pandemic. However, the onsite learning system has been switching slowly in the last few months. The current study summarizes the narratives of the challenges and benefits of four undergraduates from the same major who joined online learning and onsite learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. Through a narrative qualitative, the lens examines the students' experiences. The instruments are interviews and diary notes of participants during conducting online and onsite learning amidst the pandemic and analyzed qualitatively. The findings showed that the students deal with four challenges: limited devices, lack of enthusiasm, anxiety, and unexpected disturbance during online learning. Meanwhile, the benefits save time, and cost, are easy to access, and students can learn independently. Moreover, this learning might help the student to become problem solvers and critical thinkers through task-solving activities and learning responsibilities. It also opens opportunities for students to better understand their own abilities in learning. Pengalaman, tantangan, dan keterlibatan di tengah pandemic: Pembelajaran online hingga pembelajaran luringPandemi Covid-19 memaksa para pemangku kepentingan untuk mencari cara terbaik dalam melaksanakan kegiatan belajar siswa melalui pembelajaran online sebagai solusi terbaik di masa pandemi. Namun, sistem pembelajaran di tatap muka telah beralih perlahan dalam beberapa bulan terakhir. Penelitian ini merangkum narasi perihal tantangan dan manfaat dari empat mahasiswa dari jurusan yang sama yang mengikuti pembelajaran online dan pembelajaran di tempat selama pandemi Covid-19. Instrumen yang digunakan berupa wawancara dan catatan harian peserta selama melakukan pembelajaran daring dan luring di tengah pandemi dan dianalisis secara kualitatif. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa siswa menghadapi empat tantangan: perangkat terbatas, kurangnya antusiasme, kecemasan, dan gangguan tak terduga selama pembelajaran online. Sedangkan keuntungannya adalah menghemat waktu, dan biaya, mudah diakses, dan siswa dapat belajar secara mandiri. Selain itu, pembelajaran ini dapat mendukung siswa untuk menjadi sosok pemecah masalah dan pemikir kritis melalui kegiatan pemecahan tugas dan tanggung jawab belajar. Hal ini juga membuka kesempatan bagi siswa untuk lebih memahami kemampuannya sendiri dalam belajar.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms of difficulties experienced by tenth-grade students of Eka Prasetya Senior High School Medan in writing observation texts, to identify and analyze the factors contributing to these difficulties, and to examine the strategies employed by teachers to address them. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, the research explores students’ perceptions of the challenges they face in writing observation texts, with detailed data collection through direct interaction with the principal, Indonesian language teachers, and students. The findings reveal that students’ difficulties in writing observation texts are primarily related to linguistic aspects and text structure. The contributing factors include the lack of engaging learning models and overly monotonous, teacher-dominated instruction. To overcome these difficulties, teachers applied several strategies, such as providing contextual text examples and step-by-step guidance to understand structure and language, facilitating direct observation with supervision and written feedback, and implementing scaffolding techniques through object selection, outlining, drafting, and intensive revision support. Teachers also utilized visual media and technology to concretize object understanding, encouraged collaborative group discussions to foster idea exchange and strengthen comprehension of text structure, and provided personalized and constructive feedback to improve students’ writing. Furthermore, teachers built students’ motivation and self-confidence by appreciating their writing process and gradual progress.

Abstract

Teacher literacy plays an important role in the development of instructional materials, particularly at the elementary school level where teachers are expected to design contextual and meaningful learning resources. However, studies on teacher literacy in schools with limited learning resources remain limited. This study aims to describe the literacy practices of elementary school teachers in developing Indonesian language teaching materials and to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors influencing these practices. This research employed a qualitative approach using a descriptive case study design. The participants consisted of four elementary school teachers in Humene Satua Village, Gunungsitoli, who were selected purposively. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and classroom observations and analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that teachers have an adequate awareness of literacy, but the implementation of reading literacy, information literacy, digital literacy, and pedagogical literacy is still not optimal. Teachers tend to rely on textbooks, use internet resources selectively, and utilize digital technology at a basic level. Supporting factors include teachers’ intrinsic motivation and principal support, while inhibiting factors include limited learning resources, minimal digital literacy training, and high administrative workload. Strengthening teacher literacy through improved access to learning resources and continuous professional development is essential to enhance the quality of instructional materials and learning in elementary schools.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan implementasi media digital Canva dalam meningkatkan pemahaman teks deskripsi pada siswa Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan (SMK). Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan desain studi kasus. Partisipan penelitian adalah 30 siswa kelas XI jurusan Teknik Jaringan Komputer dan seorang guru Bahasa Indonesia sebagai informan tambahan. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi, kemudian dianalisis menggunakan model Miles dan Huberman yang meliputi reduksi data, penyajian data, serta penarikan kesimpulan. Keabsahan data dijaga melalui triangulasi teknik dan sumber. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan Canva mampu meningkatkan keterlibatan dan motivasi belajar siswa, serta membantu mereka memahami struktur dan ciri kebahasaan teks deskripsi dengan lebih baik. Siswa juga mampu menghasilkan produk teks deskripsi yang lebih sistematis, rinci, dan menarik melalui integrasi unsur visual dan tulisan. Meskipun terdapat beberapa kendala, seperti keterbatasan jaringan internet dan perbedaan kemampuan siswa dalam menggunakan aplikasi, strategi pembelajaran yang tepat dapat membantu mengatasi hambatan tersebut. Dengan demikian, media digital Canva dapat menjadi alternatif media pembelajaran yang efektif dalam meningkatkan pemahaman teks deskripsi siswa SMK.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the ability to write narrative essays of fifth grade students of SD Negeri Lae Saga Subulussalam City through the implementation of serialized picture media. The research method used is Classroom Action Research (PTK) with two cycles, each of which consists of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The subjects of this study were 20 grade V students in the 2024-2025 school year. The instruments used included observation sheets, interview guidelines, and writing tests. The results showed that the use of serialized images can improve students' narrative writing skills, especially in terms of completeness of structure, use of vocabulary, and accuracy of spelling and punctuation. In cycle I, students' learning completeness reached 50%, then increased to 90% in cycle II. This finding shows that serialized picture media is effective in stimulating imagination and making it easier for students to compose stories coherently and creatively. Thus, this media is worth applying as an alternative in learning writing in elementary schools to improve the quality of students' language skills.
