Abstract

Cultural information literacy plays a crucial role in preserving traditional arts in the modern era, especially among diaspora communities. The Genta Sentramas community, as a prominent and actively engaged diaspora community in cultural activities, needs to possess a good understanding and skills in cultural information literacy. This study aims to identify the forms of cultural information literacy used by the Genta Sentramas community in promoting and preserving Banyumas traditional arts in the city of Bandung. This research employed a qualitative method. The purposive sampling technique was used with the criterion that the samples were members of the Genta Sentramas Community. The results of this study indicate that the cultural information literacy of the Genta Sentramas Community in preserving Banyumas culture is carried out through the utilization of information technology. This includes social media and digital platforms that allow this diaspora community to document and disseminate information about traditional arts, including Banyumas dance and music, to the younger generation and the wider community. Other forms include visits to local cultural heritage sites and conducting art workshops. Cultural information literacy not only facilitates information access but also encourages the community to take an active role in producing and promoting their cultural elements. Thus, cultural information literacy becomes a vital instrument in maintaining the sustainability of Banyumas traditional arts in diaspora and ensuring that cultural identity remains alive amidst the challenges of modernization.

Abstract

Collection development in libraries is crucial to ensure that library resources meet user information needs. Librarians must adapt to advancements in information and communication technology in carrying out collection development activities. This study aims to identify research trends in library collection development in Asia through a narrative literature review, analyzing 12 relevant references from Google Scholar. The analysis focuses on library management and the evaluation of collection development policies. The findings reveal that collection development in Asian libraries varies based on user needs, culture, and the level of information technology. South Korea emphasizes collection digitization, Pakistan prioritizes academic needs, Indonesia faces budget constraints, India focuses on digital literacy, and East Asian countries integrate international networks. Collection development stages include user needs analysis, selection policy establishment, collection selection, material acquisition, weeding, and evaluation. Collection development policies emphasize providing relevant resources in digital and print formats, along with periodic evaluations to maintain quality. This study concludes that library collection development in Asia is a strategic effort to address the dynamics of information needs and enhance community literacy

Abstract

Libraries as institutions of cultural memory and preservation have a crucial role in preserving the nation's cultural heritage and supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This article examines the transformational role of libraries in the modern era, focusing on three main aspects: (1) the library's role as a repository and manager of collective memory, (2) its contribution to cultural preservation, and (3) its support for the SDGs, particularly in education, social inclusion, and access to information. Through a literature review and case studies, this article concludes that libraries are not only centers of knowledge, but also agents of change that promote sustainable development. Through preservation and digitization, libraries ensure that collective memory is preserved and accessible to future generations. In addition, libraries also play a role as cultural preservers, by preserving and promoting local cultures to raise public awareness about the importance of maintaining cultural diversity. Furthermore, libraries actively contribute to supporting the achievement of the SDGs, particularly in quality education, reducing inequality, and building inclusive institutions. By providing equitable access to information, supporting digital literacy, and serving as safe spaces for social dialog, libraries help communities address global challenges such as poverty, inequality, and climate change. Government and community support is essential to strengthen the strategic role of libraries in preserving collective memory, nurturing culture and creating a sustainable future. By continuing to innovate and adapt, libraries are expected to remain relevant and become an important pillar in global development.

Abstract

The transformation of conventional libraries into digital libraries has resulted in many significant changes, especially in the generation of digital natives to access information. This research aims to analyze the role of digital libraries in supporting the learning process of the digital natives generation, which refers to the Garuda database-indexed literature review. This research uses a narrative literature review method by analyzing various references to find new knowledge. The number of references analyzed in this study amounted to 15 references out of a total of 30 references taken from the Garuda database with a range of years from 2015 to 2024. Researchers used the Garuda database because it has the advantage of easy access to articles and many articles from Indonesia are of high quality and free. The results and discussion show that digital libraries have an important role in supporting the learning process of the digital natives generation. First, digital libraries play a role in providing digital literacy education for digital natives so that the search for information needed is relevant, valid, and can be utilized properly. Second, digital libraries play a role in providing complete, quality, and easily accessible online collections anytime and anywhere. Third, digital libraries play a role in providing responsive services to digital natives such as email, Instagram, and website services. In carrying out this role, librarians who understand digital libraries and can meet the information needs of digital natives are needed.

Abstract

Backgroud: Limited budgets have compelled libraries to innovate in order to ensure their sustainability. One effective strategy for addressing budget constraints is interlibrary collaboration. Interlibrary collaboration involves cooperative activities between two or more libraries and may also include partnerships with other information-related organizations, such as reference centers, data analysis institutions, and others. Such collaboration is essential because no single library, regardless of its scale or resources, can comprehensively collect all available information. Every library faces limitations in fully meeting users’ information needs. Interlibrary collaboration serves to bridge these gaps by enabling access to information that may not be available in a single institution. Purpose: This study aims to explore research on interlibrary collaboration by analyzing its historical development, supporting and inhibiting factors, and its impact on both users and institutions. Methods: The study employs a narrative literature review method, using the Google Scholar database to identify relevant references. A total of 14 journal articles were analyzed. Results: The findings suggest that interlibrary collaboration can be a viable solution for enhancing library collections. It also fosters stronger institutional relationships, as collaboration contributes to collection development and improves overall library quality. However, several challenges persist, such as limited personnel, which can slow down collaborative processes, and inadequate funding, which can hinder the sustainability of such initiatives. Despite these obstacles, interlibrary collaboration continues to evolve, offering opportunities to refine library strategies and improve the effectiveness of cooperative efforts.
