Abstract

As a business that relies on human mobility, the tourism sector has proven to be severely affected by the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. The paralysis of tourism both nationally and globally as a result of the lockdown policy in various countries and the Large-Scale Social Restriction (LSSR) policy in Indonesia affects the operations of tourism businesses. This has raised high anxiety for Tourism Human Resources about the future of the tourism business. This research discusses culture shock, adaptation, and self-concept of Tourism Human Resources in welcoming the new normal era from a communication perspective, both related to intercultural communication, interpersonal communication, and self-concept as part of communication psychology. This research used a qualitative research method with a case study approach. Data collection techniques were conducted through interviews, field observations, and document study through WhatsApp messages in several professional association groups, webinars, and mass media. The key informants in the research were 14 people as primary data and more than 200 members of the WhatsApp group “Housekeepers Jabar” as secondary data. The results of this research showed that Tourism Human Resources suffered from a culture shock and reached its lowest point in March to mid-April, but rose slowly from late April to June. There are three very stressful aspects of their life, consisting of cultural, social, and economic aspects. Cultural and social aspects are relatively easier to overcome, but the economic aspects are the most impactful because it concerns the sustainability of their life and their families. The period of awareness in the adaptation process is a period of struggle, creativity, and action so that many of them switch professions to run online businesses. This period is still ongoing and it is not known how long it will end. Positive self-concept plays an important role in a person’s success in adapting to survive because it helps a person to be resilient, patient, courageous, and creative in finding solutions in facing challenges thus opening up greater opportunities to successfully solve the problems.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze women’s participation in tourism activities in the Outer Baduy tribe, according to the tourism components consisting of attraction, amenity, accessibility, and ancillary (supporting factors). This research uses a qualitative research method, in which data collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. This research involved 18 informants from several stakeholders, such as the tourism awareness group, handicraft producers, homestay and restaurant owners, government officers, and tourists who have visited the destination. Informants’ selection uses a purposive sampling technique. According to the tourism components, the research results show women’s participation in tourism activities in the Outer Baduy tribe, only two of four tourism components: attraction and amenity. In the attraction component, women possess more or less the same level of participation as men. However, in the amenity component, women may have a higher level of participation than men may. In the accessibility and ancillary (supporting factors) components, only men participation existed. The limited level of women’s participation is rooted deep and taken for granted in their culture. The women themselves do not dispute inequality and disparity because they consider their role as women in the domestic sector and not in the public sector.

Abstract

Six Sigma is of paramount importance to organizations as it provides a structured and data-driven approach, fostering continuous improvement, minimizing defects, and optimizing processes to meet and exceed customer expectations. In response to the increasing defects of packaging product in a cosmetics industry in Indonesia, surpassing the specified 3% tolerance limit, this research conducts a thorough investigation into the root causes, corrective measures, and improvement proposals to elevate product quality. By leveraging the Six Sigma method and data mining techniques, the study systematically addresses the complexities associated with defect reduction in packaging for cosmetics product. The research methodology encompasses defining the problem through SIPOC and Critical to Quality (CTQ) diagrams, measuring via control charts and sigma level calculations, and analyzing using tools like pareto diagrams, Apriori algorithms, fishbone diagrams, and Fault Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA). Key findings reveal a notable correlation between spot defects and varying colors, leading to pearl defects as identified by the Apriori algorithm. FMEA identifies critical failures, including suboptimal printing plate conditions, clumpy ink usage, and insufficient operator attention to ink filling. The improvement stage proposes practical solutions, such as implementing alarms and buzzers, color-indicator-adjusted ink storage labels, and a structured form for cleaning and monitoring printing plates. These findings carry significant implications, providing a tailored roadmap for enhancing the quality of cosmetic packaging. The anticipated implementation of proposed improvements aims to elevate customer satisfaction by addressing specific pain points in the production process. Furthermore, the research contributes valuable insights to the broader cosmetics industry, offering effective methodologies for defect reduction and quality enhancement in packaging processes.

Abstract

The conflict over the Bangkonol Landfill (TPA Bangkonol) in Pandeglang Regency, Banten Province, escalated during 2024–2025, involving local government, communities, and the media. This study analyzes the dynamics of public communication by focusing on community resistance, media framing, and the government’s crisis response. A qualitative case study was conducted through interviews, document analysis, and media review. Findings indicate that the absence of participatory communication triggered strong community resistance, while the media amplified the dispute by framing it as an environmental crisis and highlighting weak policy legitimacy. These dynamics align with agenda-setting and framing theories, which explain how media influence public opinion. The issue was further politicized by local political rivals, and digital platforms became arenas for mobilization, consistent with uses and gratifications theory. This shows that communication failure not only fueled resistance but also opened space for politicization and accelerated conflict escalation. The study recommends strengthening official communication channels, ensuring community involvement from the planning stage, and expediting the transition of the landfill to a sanitary system.

Abstract

The development of digital space has opened up new opportunities for female politicians to negotiate their identities and expand their representation beyond the boundaries of conventional media. This study aims to analyze how female members of the Banten Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD) construct gender equality narratives through podcasts on the Banten Podcast channel. Using qualitative content analysis with a social construction approach, this study examines narrative patterns, self-representation strategies, and the framing of gender issues that emerge in podcast conversations. The results reveal three main findings: first, female politicians articulate gender equality issues by combining personal experiences with structural issues, resulting in more authentic and contextual narratives; second, podcasts are used to assert political competence through discussions of the legislative process, policy evaluation, and women's substantive roles in parliament; and third, personal narratives are used as a moral legitimacy strategy that strengthens emotional closeness with the public and challenges gender stereotypes. These findings emphasize the function of podcasts as a digital democratic arena capable of expanding the space for women's political articulation and offering a more equal model of gender representation at the local level.

Abstract

The growth of the Indonesian tourism industry has created increasingly fierce competition for hospitality businesses, including family recreation resorts. This situation demands that businesses implement integrated marketing strategies that utilize digital channels and build collaborative networks. This study aims to describe the collaborative network implemented by Anakraja Waterpark and Resort, analyze the digital promotion strategies implemented across various media channels, and evaluate the contribution of this integration to the resort's marketing performance. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach through interviews, observations, and documentation analysis, analyzed using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña model. The results indicate that Anakraja's collaborative network is still limited to a single online booking platform and situational collaborations with local travel agents, resulting in suboptimal marketing reach. Digital promotion strategies have been actively implemented through Instagram and TikTok, but are not supported by structured content planning, visual identity, or performance evaluation. The integration between the collaborative network and digital promotion has not been effective, resulting in a significant impact on increasing occupancy rates and stabilizing demand. The study concludes that Anakraja's marketing effectiveness requires diversification of partnerships and strengthening of a digital strategy designed in an integrated manner to create more equitable and sustainable marketing growth.

Abstract

Background: Foot Plate Orthosis (FPO) is an assistive device to prevent foot injuries. Carbon fiber is a commonly  used material. Although carbon fiber material provides many advantages, its dependence on imported raw  materials is an obstacle. Therefore, alternative materials that are easily available in Indonesia are needed. Jute  fiber has the potential to be a strong, elaticity and economical alternative. Objective: To analyze flexural strength properties of jute fiber composites as an alternative material for orthosis  foot plates. Methods: The study used a quantitative experimental design that included included creating composite  materials with woven of jute fiber, polyester resin using the lamination method. Variations in the number of  jute fiber layers were used to determine their effect on flexural strength. Flexural strength testing was conducted  using ASTM D790 standard. The test data was analyzed descriptively and statistically to determine the optimal  layers that provide the best flexural strength. Results: The test results show that the jute fiber composite with five layers produces the highest flexural strength,  which is 50 MPa. The increase in the number of layers is directly proportional to the increase in flexural strength  up to the optimum point at five layers. However, jute fiber composites tend to have lower elasticity than synthetic  materials such as carbon fiber. Conclusion: Jute fiber composites with the optimal number of layers have flexural strength as orthosis foot plate  materials, but their low elasticity limits their effectiveness in dynamic activities.
