Abstract

Pelatihan ini yang menerapkan metode Task Based Language Teaching (TBLT) bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara siswa SMA kelas X. Kegiatan dilakukan secara daring dengan menggunakan platform zoom dan WAG. Kegiatan dibagi dalam beberapa sesi, yaitu pemaparan materi sebagai kegiatan awal (pre-task), kegiatan inti (negotiated meaning) dan kegiatan komunikatif (communication strategies). Dalam implementasinya, siswa dapat melakukan kegiatan wawancara ke public figure yang telah siswa pilih, mengkontruksi langkah-langkah wawancara sesuai dengan kegiatan yang telah dipelajari, membuat daftar informasi tentang public figure, membuat pertanyaan dalam bentuk pertanyaan Y/N Questions dan WH-Questions, memilih tipe pertanyaan dan membuat tanggapan atau respon dari jawaban pertanyaan. Siswa dapat menyelesaikan kegiatan awal, tengah dan akhir dengan menggunakan langkah-langkah berdasarkan pendekatan TBLT dengan baik. Siswa dapat menggunakan kesempatan untuk melatih keterampilan berbicaranya. Beberapa hal yang harus diperbaiki meliputi tata bahasa dan pelafalan serta melatih untuk berbicara secara natural. Kegiatan ini diakhiri dengan mengunggah kegiatan bertukar peran dalam kanal you tube

Abstract

Kondisi remaja yang saat ini tengah bergerak ke arah yang semakin maju dan modern melahirkan konsekuensi-konsekuensi tertentu yang berkaitan dengan nilai dan moral dalam berkomunikasi, salah satunya ialah kesantunan. Para santri yang tinggal di Yayasan Daarul Rahman (YDR) dipilih sebagai mitra dalam kegiatan ini, selain mayoritas santri adalah remaja, suatu Yayasan juga memiliki tanggung jawab atas pembentukan karakter dan nilai-nilai moral para santri. Tujuan kegiatan ini adalah untuk memberikan penguatan dan pemahaman mengenai kesantunan dalam berkomunikasi agar para santri dapat menjadi komunikator andal pada era digital. Adapun metode pelaksanaan kegiatan ini dilakukuan dengan beberapa tahapan, yaitu analisis situasi, perencanaan dan solusi, dan penyuluhan atau implementasi kegiatan. Hasil kegiatan ini menunjukan dapat membantu para santri merasa lebih percaya diri dan terampil dalam berinteraksi dengan orang lain di lingkungan yang lebih luas baik secara tatap muka maupun didalam jaringan. Peserta meyakini bahwa menyela pembicaraan bukan bagian dari perilaku santun dalam komunikasi apalagi jika dilakukan terhadap orang yang lebih tua, dan mengucapkan terima kasih harus dilakukan pada siapapun yang membantu. Secara digital peserta juga memahami bahwa menghargai orang lain merupakan bagian dari kesantunan, dan yang paling utama ialah menjaga identitas diri dengan tidak mengumbar informasi pribadi.

Abstract

Abstrak Kegiatan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat melalui sosialisasi dan praktek langsung kepada masyarakat dengan mendirikan bank sampah dan mengelola sampah berdasarkan prinsip 3R bertujuan untuk mengedukasi masyarakat tentang urgensi pengelolaan sampah dalam mewujudkan lingkungan yang bersih dan sehat. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan di salah satu desa di Jawa Timur tepatnya di Desa Trewung, Kecamatan Grati, Kabupaten Pasuruan, Jawa Timur. Kegiatan ini diawali dengan survei dan koordinasi dengan perangkat Desa Trewung terkait permasalahan sampah yang dihadapi masyarakat. Kemudian menyusun tim pengabdian masyarakat dan meminta izin pada Pemerintah Desa Trewung, Serta pelaksanaan sosialisasi dengan mengedukasi masyarakat melalui kegiatan sosialisasi serta implementasi pendirian bank sampah dan pengelolaan sampah berdasarkan prinsip 3R. Hasil dari kegiatan pengabdian ini masyarakat Desa Trewung lebih teredukasi dan semakin memahami pentingnya mengatasi permasalahan sampah melalui pemanfaatan sampah yang dapat bernilai ekonomis serta pengelolaan sampah yang tepat berdasarkan prinsip 3R. Kegiatan ini membantu masyarakat dengan cara mensosialisasikan pentingnya menanamkan kebudayaan yang menciptakan lingkungan bersih dan sehat. Kata Kunci: Bank sampah, 3R, Desa mandiri Abstract Community Service Activities through socialization and direct practice to the community by establishing a waste bank and managing waste based on the 3R principle aims to educate the community about the urgency of waste management in creating a clean and healthy environment. This activity was carried out in one of the villages in East Java, precisely in Trewung Village, Grati District, Pasuruan Regency, East Java. This activity began with a survey and coordination with the Trewung Village apparatus regarding the waste problems faced by the community. Then form a community service team and ask for permission from the Trewung Village Government, as well as implementing socialization by educating the community through socialization activities and implementing the establishment of a waste bank and waste management based on the 3R principle. The results of this community service activity are that the Trewung Village community is more educated and increasingly understands the importance of overcoming waste problems through the utilization of waste that can have economic value and proper waste management based on the 3R principle. This activity helps the community by socializing the importance of instilling a culture that creates a clean and healthy environment. Keywords: Waste bank, 3R, Independent village

Abstract

This study examines the impact of technology-based learning innovations in community service programs aimed at improving education access in disadvantaged areas. Using a qualitative research approach, data were collected from educational practitioners, community leaders, and policymakers through in-depth interviews and document analysis. The findings reveal that digital learning tools, online platforms, and mobile-based education programs significantly enhance learning opportunities for marginalized communities. However, challenges such as digital literacy, infrastructure limitations, and funding remain substantial. The study underscores the necessity of a collaborative approach between governments, NGOs, and technology providers to ensure sustainable educational development.

Abstract

The integration of authentic materials in reading lessons has gained significant attention in the context of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classroom, as these materials provide real-world language exposure that enhances comprehension and motivation. Despite their advantages, many students face challenges in understanding authentic texts due to unfamiliar vocabulary, complex sentence structures, and lack of proper reading strategies. This study aims to explore high school students' perceptions and preferences regarding the use of authentic materials in reading lessons, identifying both the benefits and challenges encountered. A qualitative case study design was employed, involving 20 high school students from South Tangerang, using classroom observations, open-ended questionnaires, and semi-structured interviews for data collection. The findings reveal that students perceive authentic materials positively, appreciating their relevance and ability to engage learners with real-world content. However, challenges such as difficult vocabulary and complex structures were highlighted. Students preferred illustrated materials like comics, magazines, and short stories, while finding academic articles and newspapers difficult. The study suggests that while authentic materials can enhance engagement and motivation, their effectiveness depends on careful selection aligned with students' proficiency levels. It recommends that educators provide scaffolding, teach reading strategies, and adopt a balanced approach by combining authentic and simplified materials for optimal learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study investigates the digital storytelling roles in lessening writing anxiety among junior high school students learning English as a foreign language (EFL). Writing anxiety is a common challenge that affects students' ability to express themselves effectively. The purpose of this research is to explore how digital storytelling, which combines multimedia elements like images, sound, and video, can alleviate anxiety and improve writing skills. The study used a mixed-method approach, involving both quantitative data from the Second Language Writing Anxiety Inventory (SLWAI) and qualitative insights from interviews. Findings reveal that before the intervention, students experienced moderate to high levels of anxiety. After using digital storytelling, anxiety levels significantly decreased, especially among male students, with reductions in cognitive and somatic anxiety, as well as avoidance behaviours. Qualitative data further supported these findings, showing that students felt more motivated, engaged, and confident in their writing. Digital storytelling helped students improve their writing skills, increase their error awareness, and foster a sense of ownership and creativity. The study suggests that digital storytelling can be a valuable pedagogical tool to create a less intimidating learning environment and enhance writing proficiency in EFL classrooms. However, further exploration is needed to understand the differing impacts on male and female students.

Abstract

In the context of online learning increasingly adopted by an Indonesian higher education institution, students must adapt to new modes of instruction, which may lead to anxiety, particularly in EFL writing through online discussion forums. This study aims to identify and describe the types, levels, and contributing factors of writing anxiety, as well as how students manage their anxiety in online discussion settings. A mixed-methods approach with a concurrent triangulation design was used to understand the phenomenon. Data were collected through questionnaires and interviews with twenty-five first-semester master's students in the English Education Study Program at a private university in Jakarta.The findings revealed that most students experienced moderate anxiety, with cognitive anxiety being the most prevalent type. Contributing factors included linguistic difficulties, fear of negative comments, and time pressure. Furthermore, the study highlights the importance of supportive instructional strategies and self-regulation in reducing writing anxiety among EFL learners in digital contexts.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengedukasi mahasiswa baru tentang pemanfaatan AI DeepSeek dan Canva dalam membuat media presentasi materi perkuliahan yang efektif, menarik, dan profesional. Penelitian ini juga bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi mahasiswa baru dalam memanfaatkan teknologi tersebut, sehingga mereka dapat menyajikan materi perkuliahan dengan lebih baik dan efisien. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah Program Kreativitas Mahasiswa (PKM) dengan pendekatan pelatihan dan pelatihan praktis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa baru mengalami peningkatan signifikan dalam kemampuan menyusun konten dan mendesain media presentasi setelah mengikuti pelatihan. Selain itu, mahasiswa memberikan respons positif terhadap pelatihan, menganggap DeepSeek dan Canva sebagai alat yang efektif untuk meningkatkan kualitas presentasi mereka. Dengan demikian, penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa edukasi pemanfaatan AI DeepSeek dan Canva dapat menjadi solusi inovatif bagi mahasiswa baru dalam menghadapi tuntutan akademik.

Abstract

Critical thinking (CT) is widely recognized as an essential component of academic writing, yet EFL students often struggle to apply it effectively in argumentative essays. While previous studies have examined correlations between CT and writing quality or evaluated teaching interventions, less is known about how CT actually manifests in students’ written work and the challenges they encounter in real writing contexts. This study addresses this gap by exploring both the textual indicators of CT and students’ lived experiences of integrating it into their essays. The study involved 27 fifth-semester English education majors at a private university in Jakarta, Indonesia, with English proficiency ranging from intermediate to pre-advanced. Data were collected through two argumentative writing tasks, a focus group discussion, and document analysis. Thematic analysis and structured coding were used to identify CT indicators and challenges, with findings triangulated across data sources. Results showed that students demonstrated CT through coherent argumentation, use of evidence, engagement with counter-arguments, and organized essay structure. However, they struggled with organizing complex ideas, synthesizing information from multiple sources, and balancing creativity with logical reasoning, leading to disjointed arguments and superficial use of evidence. The study highlights the gap between theoretical CT standards and their practical application in EFL writing, underscoring the need for targeted instruction in argument structuring, source evaluation, and counter-argumentation.

Abstract

Menulis merupakan salah satu keterampilan penting dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris, namun siswa EFL sering menghadapi kendala dalam mengorganisasi ide dan menyusun teks yang terstruktur. Pengabdian ini bertujuan mengkaji efektivitas strategi mind mapping dan pertanyaan WH (WH-Q) dalam meningkatkan kemampuan menulis paragraf deskriptif siswa EFL dalam kerangka Kurikulum Merdeka. Kegiatan melibatkan 29 siswa kelas X SMA Muhammadiyah Cileungsi melalui dua sesi daring via Zoom, didukung Google Classroom dan WhatsApp Group. Data diperoleh dari kuesioner pra–pasca serta tugas menulis, lalu dianalisis menggunakan rubrik berbasis genre. Hasil menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan pada aspek organisasi ide (+1.0), tata bahasa (+1.2), kosakata (+1.2), dan struktur teks (+1.2). Panjang tulisan siswa bertambah dari rata-rata 3–4 kalimat (±45 kata) menjadi 7–9 kalimat (±95 kata). Analisis kualitatif mengungkap bahwa siswa merasa lebih termotivasi menulis karena strategi ini membantu menggali ide sekaligus mengurangi kecemasan. Kendala utama mencakup keterbatasan perangkat, koneksi internet yang tidak stabil, dan durasi pelatihan yang singkat. Temuan ini menyarankan bahwa strategi mind mapping dan WH-Q dapat diintegrasikan ke dalam pembelajaran reguler Kurikulum Merdeka guna mendukung pengembangan literasi, berpikir kritis, dan kreativitas siswa.
