Abstract

This study was triggered by the existing teaching modules for the Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) subjects taught at vocational high schools, which do not align with the Freedom to Learn-Independent Campus (FLIC) learning objectives, and do not provide a systematic organization. In order to enhance the learning experience, this research developed a new learning module that integrated Problem-based Learning (PBL), promoting critical thinking, and the practical application of theoretical concepts, following the FLIC curriculum. Utilizing a Research and Development (R&D) approach with the Instructional Design Institute (IDI) model, this study involved two welding instructors and four lecturers as validators to assess the content and usability of the module. The IDI model comprised three steps: instructional (define), development (develop), and institute (evaluate). The research findings regarding the validity assessment by subject matter experts yielded a final validity score of 0.924, while media and language experts provided a score of 0.936, meeting the valid criteria. The practical usability test of the learning module resulted in a score of 94%, indicating that it is highly practical for students to use as learning media. Based on the validity and practicality assessments of the developed module, it can be concluded that the SMAW learning module is highly practical to use as teaching media, aligning with FLIC curriculum.

Abstract

The Student Creativity Program (PKM) is initiated by Dikjen Diktirestik through Belmawa to fulfill one of the 8 Key Performance Indicators (IKU) of Higher Education, focusing on graduates' success in securing suitable employment and providing students with off-campus experiences. The Department of Mechanical Engineering at FT-UNP actively participates in PKM each year. Therefore, this study aims to thoroughly examine the influence of University Information Support as a catalyst for the participation of Mechanical Engineering students in PKM. The research employs a quantitative approach involving 282 Mechanical Engineering students, validating instruments and collecting data. Data analysis is conducted researchers utilized the SmartPLS application for conducting Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) in their study. Findings reveal that University Information Support has a significant positive impact on student participation in PKM at the FT-UNP Mechanical Engineering Department, indicated by a Path Coefficient 0.189, T statistics 2.621, and P values 0.009. University Information Support is crucial in enhancing student involvement in the Student Creativity Program, underscoring the importance of adequate information provision by universities.

Abstract

Higher education in Indonesia plays an important role in developing and enhancing students' knowledge, skills, and understanding across various fields of study, in accordance with the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 12 of 2012 on Higher Education. The "Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka" (MBKM) program has been introduced as part of higher education reform in Indonesia, but there remains a need to understand the factors driving student participation, particularly in the Certified Internship and Independent Study Program (MSIB). This study aims to identify curiosity as a factor driving student participation in the MSIB program through the development of soft skills as a mediating variable. This research employs descriptive analysis with a quantitative approach. Data were collected from 189 students of the Department of Mechanical Engineering FT-UNP through questionnaires and analyzed using SEM with SmartPLS to examine the relationships between curiosity, soft skills, and participation in the MSIB program. The results show that curiosity has a positive influence on student participation in the MSIB program through the development of soft skills. This is indicated by a path coefficient 0.267 and T-statistic value 1.680, suggesting a positive relationship between curiosity and participation in MSIB through soft skills. These findings suggest that to increase student participation in the MSIB program, higher education institutions need to focus on the development of Soft abilities as a crucial component of the educational journey. Moreover, programs that stimulate student curiosity need to be strengthened to prepare them for the workforce with competencies that meet market demands.

Abstract

Fish drying using a solar collector with heat storage is hot air taken directly from solar energy channeled into the solar collector which can store heat energy from the sun with sand media in the solar collector. The research method involves drying fish at different temperature and time variations, and comparing the results with conventional drying methods. The parameters measured include the moisture content and the dried fish produced. In addition, the dried fish produced from this process had better texture and flavor, thus improving the quality of the final product. The purpose of this research is to dry fish using a solar collector by using solar energy media to absorb heat energy. The test results of the fish dryer using sand media showed the highest temperature on the inside of the oven with a temperature of 41 ° C at 11:00 WIB with a solar intensity of 499 W/m². Drying on fish occurs a reduction in fish content, namely 49.25% to 64.70% for 8 hours of drying using a solar collector. The drying rate of the fish drying process is 0.091 g/min to 0.061 g/min with a collector efficiency level of 15.04% on the first day of testing and 16.52% on the second day of testing. In the process of drying fish for two days, there is a reduction in fish mass from 67 grams to 12 grams with a mass reduction of about 55 grams.

Abstract

The use of solar energy as an alternative energy source has developed significantly in various applications. The fish dryer in this study utilizes solar energy, assisted by a solar collector, which uses split stones as a heat storage medium. The aim of this research is to enhance the usage of the solar collector fish dryer because it can be used when there is insufficient solar energy. The research method includes the design and creation of a dryer prototype, as well as measuring the temperature of incoming and outgoing air, including the relative humidity inside the drying chamber. The results revealed that utilizing split stones as a heat storage medium can maintain the air temperature in the drying chamber at an optimal level for a longer period, even with varying sunlight intensity. This research was conducted at the Mechanical Engineering Laboratory of Universitas Negeri Padang. The highest temperature achieved in the solar collector fish dryer with a heat storage medium in the oven or drying chamber was 40°C at 13:00 WIB, with a solar intensity of 503 W/m². The drying process of salted fish using split stones as a heat storage medium resulted in a moisture evaporation rate of 49.25% - 64.7% over 8 hours, with a drying rate of 0.068 g/m - 0.079 g/m. The collector's efficiency was 16.6% on the first day and 16.48% on the second day of testing.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low learning outcomes of students in the subject of Entrepreneurship Creative Products. Teachers still cannot carry out the learning process properly and optimally. This results in student learning outcomes. This study aims to describe the making of door trellis with the Project Based Learning model in the learning process to improve the learning outcomes of Entrepreneurship Creative Products at SMK. This type of research is classroom action research (PTK) using qualitative and quantitative approaches. The subjects of this research were students of class XI SMK Dhuafa Padang with 25 students, researchers as practitioners and class teachers as observers. This research was conducted in two cycles, which consisted of planning, implementation, observation and reflection. Research data obtained from observations of the learning process, tests in the form of evaluation sheets done by students, and non-tests taken from observations of students' skills. In cycle I learning outcomes obtained a percentage of 52% and cycle II obtained a percentage of 96% completeness with very good qualifications. Thus it can be concluded that learning Entrepreneurial Creative Products making door trellis with Project Based Learning model can improve learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study explores the effectiveness of the Student Teams Achievement Divisions (STAD) cooperative learning model, supported by flashcard media, in enhancing student learning outcomes in Manufacturing Technical Drawing at SMK Negeri 1 West Sumatra. A quasi-experimental control group design was employed, where the experimental group used the STAD method integrated with flashcards, and the control group received traditional lecture-based instruction. Post-test results showed that the experimental group significantly outperformed the control group, achieving a higher mean score of 79.68 compared to 63.84, with an N-Gain score of 50.81%, indicating moderate improvement. The study found that the STAD model, combined with flashcards, boosted academic achievement and promoted more consistent and equitable learning outcomes. Flashcards played a vital role by simplifying complex concepts and enhancing student engagement. This study fills a gap in vocational education by demonstrating the effectiveness of combining cooperative learning and visual aids in technical education. The research offers valuable insights for educators in similar contexts, proposing a cost-effective and scalable instructional method that can be applied across various technical disciplines. However, the study’s limitation lies in its short-term implementation, and further research is needed to explore the long-term effects of this combined learning strategy.

Abstract

Permasalahan pertama mitra di Jorong Padang Belimbing, Nagari Koto Sani, pada kelompok tani TU Baru sawah 14 Imang Jorong Padang Belimbing dan kelompok pemuda tani sawah 14 Imang adalah  mesin Huller/Rice Milling hanya ada di simpang AA. Hal ini sebagian masyarakat sangat jauh dalam penggilingan padi. Kedua, untuk membawa padi untuk penggilingan membutuhkan alat trasportasi dan penggilingan padi harus dilaksanakan beberapa karung padi sehingga menunggu jumlah yang banyak sehingga membutuhkan waktu lama. Mesin penggilingan padi ini belum tersedia di Sawah 14 Imang. Selain permasalahan dari belum tersedianya mesin penggiling padi di sawah 14, masyarakat belum berkembang berwirausaha. Tujuan dari kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat adalah menyediakan mesin penggilingan padi. Dengan adanya mesin penggilingan padi, petani akan terbantu dalam menggiling padi untuk kebutuhan sehari hari. Selain di sediakan mesin penggiling padi juga dilakukan pelatihan usaha penggilingan padi pada kelompok tani TU Baru SW.14 Imang dan kelompok pemuda tani sawah 14 Imang. Pelatihan terdiri pengoperasian mesin, perawatan mesin dan pengelolaan hasil penggilingan. Degan adanya penggilingan padi dapat meningkatkan pendapatan kelompok tani. Pengembangan teknologi tepat guna adalah metode yang digunakan. Pelaksanaan kegiatan dilakukan dalam dua tahap, pertama, diskusi, pengumpulan data, dan dokumentasi bersama petani bagian padi dengan observasi. kedua, pengembangan mesin Huller/Rice Milling. Program utama luaran menghasilkan tercapainya tersediaan mesin Huller/Rice Milling. Meningkatnya taraf hidup masyaraka pada Jorong Padang Belimbing dan kelompok pemuda tani sawah 14 Imang Kecamatan X Koto Singkarak, Kabupaten Solok, Sumatera Barat. Menghasilkan peningkatan pengetahuan, dan wawasan tentang teknologi mesin Huller/Rice Milling.

Abstract

Permasalahan pertama yang di alami petani padi adalah pengolahan jerami padi setelah proses panen padi, jerami yang sudah terendam air maka jerami sulit di bakar, waktu pelapukan jerami membutuhkan waktu yang lama sehinga mengakibatkan ada bagian sawah yang tidak termanfaatkan pada kumpulan jerami serta mengundang hama (tikus) di sawah petani. Permasalahan kedua dari petani padi adalah apabila jerami padi di bakar, hal ini mengakibatkan meningkatnya polusi dari asap pembakaran, pembakaran ini juga berdampak kepada hilangnya kesuburan tanah pada bagian sisa pembakaran sehingga mengakibatkan menurun nya hasil panen petani padi. Tujuan pelaksanaan kegiatan ini adalah untuk menyediakan Mesin Pencacah Jerami dalam meningkatkan efisiensi kinerja petani. Mesin Perajang/perajang Jerami merupakan salah satu per Mesinan usaha yang memiliki kegunaan untuk pencacah/perajang jerami. Metode yang digunakan adalah pengembangan teknologi tepat guna. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan melalui dua tahap, yaitu: tahap pertama, observasi dengan melakukan metode pengumpulan data dokumentasi dan diskusi dengan petani padi. Tahap kedua adalah tahap pengembangan mesin Perajang/perajang jerami. Hasil luaran utama yang dicapai dalam program ini adalah tersedianya mesin Perajang/perajang jerami. Hasil lain dari program ini adalah peningkatan wawasan dan pengetahuan tentang teknologi mesin Perajang/perajang jerami. serta meningkatkan taraf hidup masyarakat Kanagarian Padang Belimbing Kecamatan X Koto Singkarak Kabupaten Solok Sumatera Barat.

Abstract

Masyarakat Desa Sumani Tepatnya Jorong Simpang AA Kecamatan X Koto Singkarak Kabupaten Solok Sumatera Barat mempunyai sebagian perkebunan singkong (Cassava). Hasil panen Singkong (Cassava) kalau di jual ke pasar dengan harga yang murah. Oleh karen itu masyarakat berinovasi merobah bahan singkong (Cassava) menjadi keripik. Proses pembuatan keripik melalui proses penanaman singkong, panen singkong, pembersihan singkong, pengupasan kulit ketea pohon, perebusan singkong, pengirisan/perajangan singkong, penjemuran dan penjualan. Pada Proses pengirisan/perajangan singkong terdapat permasalah yaitu membutuhkan proses dan tenaga yang lama, akibatnya peningkatan ekonomi masyarakat sangat kecil. Tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah menyediakan mesin perajang singkong (cassava) untuk mendapatkan keripik yang renyah. Mesin Pemotong Singkong (Cassava) adalah salah satu alat komersial yang digunakan buat memotong/memotong singkong. Metode yang diaplikasikan adalah inovasi teknik yang tepat. program ini dilakukan dalam dua tahap. Jadi tahap pertama adalah observasi dengan menerapkan metode pengumpulan fakta di lapangan terdokumentasi dan diskusi dengan pemilik usaha kecil Singkong. Tahap kedua ialah tahap mengembangkan mesin perajang singkong (Cassava). hasil utama dari pengabdian ini ialah membuat mesin pemotong singkong (cassava). akibat lain dari program ini merupakan peningkatan pengetahuan serta keterampilan dalam penggunaan teknologi mesin pemotong singkong (cassava). Peningkatan tingkat hidup masyarakat di X Koto Kecamatan Singkarak, Desa Sumani, Jolong Simpang AA, Sumatera Barat, Kabupaten Solok.
