Abstract

This integrative literature review aims to reconstruct a Design Thinking (DT)-based learning model for moral education (akhlak) tailored to Generation Z in the digital age. The study systematically analyses 25 primary sources (scientific journals, proceedings, dissertations) published between 2016 and 2025. The findings reveal a significant gap between conventional normative teaching methods and the characteristics of Gen Z as digital natives, requiring a contextual and participatory learning paradigm. The analysis identifies Design Thinking as a powerful and philosophically aligned solution. DT’s human-centered, iterative stages (Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, Test) show deep convergence with Islamic moral concepts, such as at-ta'āthuf (compassion) and at-tajribah (experimentation). The synthesis results in a proposed conceptual model that integrates the DT mindset, Gen Z’s digital-native traits, and the objectives of Islamic moral education. The reconstructed model shifts learning from passive transmission to an active, experiential process where students explore real-world moral dilemmas, collaboratively prototype behavioral solutions, and engage in continuous reflection. This study provides a theoretical foundation and operational framework for educators and curriculum developers to design more relevant, impactful, and adaptive moral education for the 21st century.

Abstract

Islamic education plays a strategic role in shaping a generation that is not only intellectually superior but also possesses strong character and noble ethics. This article aims to examine the contribution of Islamic education to character development through the internalisation of spiritual, moral and social values derived from the Qur’an and Hadith. This study employs a qualitative approach using a literature review of various relevant books and academic journals. The findings indicate that Islamic education is capable of shaping students’ personalities through the balanced integration of cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects. This process is achieved through the instilling of the value of tawhid, the cultivation of noble ethics, the exemplary conduct of teachers, and the application of these values in daily life. Furthermore, Islamic education also serves as a moral bulwark in facing the challenges of globalisation and technological developments that may influence the character of the younger generation. Thus, Islamic education makes a significant contribution to fostering a generation of integrity, responsibility, and the ability to navigate the changing times wisely.

Abstract

Gagasan islamisasi ilmu pengetahuan pertama sekali disampaikan oleh Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas pada konferensi pertama pendidikan Islam Internasional di Makkah tahun 1977. Gagasan tersebut merupakan respon atas pemahaman dan penyebaran ilmu pengetahuan Barat yang telah mengangkat keraguan sebagai sarana epistemologi yang cukup baik untuk mendapatkan ilmu pengetahuan khusunya dalam bidang pendidikan. Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk menemukan konsep islamisasi ilmu pengetahuan dari Syed al-Attas. Jenis penelitiannnya adalah kepustakaan, dengan menggunakan studi dokumentasi atas berbagai tulisan Syed al-Attas. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pembentukan worldview menjadi sesuatu yang fundamental untuk menafsirkan kebenaran dan realitas. Pembentukan worldview juga dipengaruhi dari saluran-saluran ilmu sebagai epistemologi, yaitu: (1) al-hawas al-khamsah, (2) al-‘aql al-salim, (3) al-khabar al-shadiq, dan (4) ilham yang dimiliki Islam. Karena perbedaan epistemology inilah kemudian membedakan proses pencapaian ilmu yang disebut dengan arrival of meaning to the soul dan arrival of the soul at meaning. Maka, konsep ta’dib harus diterjemahkan dalam pendidikan, begitu juga pemahaman atas dua sisi manusia baik jasmaniyah dan bathiniyah, proses pencapaian ilmu, dan materi-materinya.
