Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the role of teachers in training the independence of children aged 4-5 years at TKN Pembina Dewi Kayangan, as well as to determine how teachers play a role in training children's independence. The study was conducted at TKN Pembina Dewi Kayangan in Karang Lande Village, Kayangan Subdistrict, Kayangan District, KLU, with a total of 4 students, consisting of 7 boys and 8 girls. The research method used was a descriptive qualitative approach, a research methodology that focuses on a deep understanding of phenomena in their natural context. The research used Milles Hubberman's data analysis method, which consists of four stages: data condensation, data display, drawing conclusions, and verifying conclusions. The results of this study at the Dewi Kayangan State Kindergarten indicate that the development of independence among children in Group A (ages 4–5) has shown significant progress through a structured approach that includes routine activities, positive reinforcement, and direct modeling by teachers. The children were able to achieve physical independence (such as tidying up toys and eating independently), emotional independence (expressing needs), social independence (interacting with peers), cognitive independence (decision-making), and responsibility through the daily task program. Despite challenges such as individual developmental variations, teacher-child ratio limitations, and the influence of parenting styles at home, collaboration between schools and parents, along with a conducive learning environment, has successfully established a strong foundation for independence. These findings also emphasize the importance of consistent methods, differentiated approaches, and the optimization of supportive resources for more holistic and inclusive independence development in young children.

Abstract

Early mathematical ability in early childhood is a crucial foundation for academic success at subsequent educational levels. However, field observations indicate that mathematics learning in early childhood education (PAUD) still tends to use conventional methods that are less engaging and meaningful for children. The traditional game of Dakon, as a unique local cultural heritage, has great potential to teach mathematical concepts naturally and enjoyably. This study aims to examine the effect of the traditional Dakon game on the mathematical abilities of children aged 5–6 years at PAUD Alam Anak Negeri. A quantitative approach was employed using a quasi-experimental research design with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The research subjects consisted of 25 children aged 5–6 years at PAUD Alam Anak Negeri. Data were collected through mathematical ability tests, including a pretest before the treatment and a posttest after the treatment. The instrument used was a structured observation sheet that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data were analyzed using a paired sample t-test with SPSS. The results showed a significant difference between the pretest scores (mean = 56.80) and posttest scores (mean = 82.40), with a two-tailed significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). The traditional Dakon game has a positive and significant effect on improving the mathematical abilities of children aged 5–6 years. This study recommends the use of the traditional Dakon game as an effective, enjoyable, and contextual mathematics learning medium.

Abstract

Independence is one of the essential aspects of early childhood socio-emotional development that should be nurtured through consistent habituation. Teachers play a crucial role in creating a learning environment that encourages children to perform daily activities independently. This study aimed to describe the role of teachers in fostering the independence of Group B children aged 5–6 years through the habituation method of classroom rules at TK Negeri Serikandi Karang Bajo and to identify the obstacles encountered during its implementation. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. The participants consisted of the principal and Group B teachers. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The findings revealed that teachers acted as facilitators by providing a supportive learning environment, as mentors by guiding children in implementing classroom rules, and as motivators by providing encouragement and positive reinforcement. Habituation activities included lining up before entering the classroom, wearing and arranging shoes independently, washing hands, eating together, tidying learning materials, disposing of waste properly, and taking responsibility for personal belongings. The main obstacles included children's low self-confidence, dependence on parents, differences in individual characteristics, and limited habituation practices at home. The study concludes that consistent habituation supported by active teacher involvement effectively promotes the development of independence among early childhood learners.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of stimulating fine motor skills in early childhood, particularly children aged 4-5 years who are in the golden age of development. One of the media used at TK IT Bina Insani, Dusun Magling, Bayan District, North Lombok Regency, to stimulate children's fine motor skills is slime media, a soft, sticky, and elastic play material that trains the coordination of the small muscles in children's fingers and hands. This study aims to: (1) identify and describe the implementation of slime media in improving the fine motor skills of children aged 4-5 years; (2) determine the development of fine motor skills of children aged 4-5 years after participating in learning activities using slime media; and (3) identify the obstacles faced by teachers in using slime media as a learning medium for fine motor skills. This study employed a qualitative descriptive approach. The data sources consisted of primary data, namely teachers and students of group A at TK IT Bina Insani, as well as secondary data in the form of written documentation and photographs of activities. Data collection techniques included participant observation, unstructured interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification, with data validity tested through increased diligence and triangulation of sources, techniques, and time. The results show that the implementation of slime media was carried out through three stages, namely preparation, implementation, and evaluation, with teachers acting as facilitators and guides. The development of children's fine motor skills showed improvement in four indicators: the ability to squeeze and press, the ability to pull and stretch, the ability to roll and shape, and eye-hand coordination. The obstacles faced by teachers included limited time and materials, variations in children's motor abilities, managing cleanliness due to the sticky texture of slime, and the need for extra supervision of children's safety during play. It can be concluded that slime media is a potential and effective learning medium for stimulating the development of fine motor skills in children aged 4-5 years when properly planned and guided by teachers.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to improve the fine motor skills of early childhood through the implementation of Smart Board (Digital Whiteboard) media in Group B of TK Islam Darul Bayan. The fine motor skills of children at TK Islam Darul Bayan were still relatively low. This was evident during learning activities, where several children experienced difficulties in performing tasks involving the coordination of small muscles, such as tracing lines, drawing simple shapes, writing, and following patterns accurately. In addition, the learning methods used were less varied, causing children to be less interested and less active in fine motor skill development activities. The research method used was Classroom Action Research (CAR). The actions designed in this study consisted of two cycles. Cycle I was conducted in four actions, and Cycle II was also conducted in four actions. The subjects of this study were 9 children in Group B of TK Islam Darul Bayan. The intervention design of this research included the following stages: (a) planning, (b) implementation of actions and observation, and (c) reflection. Data were collected through observation, field notes, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out by comparing children's fine motor skill abilities before and after the implementation of the actions. The results of the pre-research showed that children's fine motor skills reached classical completeness of 33.33%. After the implementation of actions in Cycle I, there was an improvement to 55.55%. Furthermore, after the implementation of actions in Cycle II, children's fine motor skills increased to 88.88%. Thus, children's fine motor skills improved and reached the category of Very Well Developed (VWD). It can therefore be concluded that the implementation of Smart Board (Digital Whiteboard) media can improve the fine motor skills of early childhood in Group B of TK Islam Darul Bayan.
