Abstract

Teaching skills are far more complex than teaching content. It needs framework, observation, and feedback. One of the popular media for learning operative procedures is video. However, the guidelines for instructional videos for surgical postgraduate students have not been established. This article tried to serve the rapid review of essential design principles to evaluate the quality of demonstration videos of procedural skills and also use the design principles in one video example. Methods: The rapid review was conducted according to Crawford's framework. Scopus was chosen as a single database. The inclusion criteria are full texts that discuss instructional videos and postgraduate medical learning skills. There were no language restrictions. Three articles were chosen from six that resulted from the literature search. The three articles are appraised based on the case-controlled or cross-sectional methodology by The Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal tools for use in JBI Systematic Reviews. Results: A total of six articles were retrieved, and the full text was reviewed for three pieces that met the study's criteria. Those articles were heterogenous in the design principles of instructional video. Two articles agreed on these points: short videos and step-by-step procedures with audio narratives. Another paper by Simon discussed several details aspects of the video, such as pathology, who are the operators in the video. Conclusions: Videos are a valuable educational tool for procedural skill knowledge acquisition and retention. Several important points should be embedded in the video, such as the step-by-step procedure and the short duration of the video. Future research needs to be carried out on establishing the guidelines of instructional videos to enhance the mastering of procedural skills. Keywords: Design, principles, procedures, surgery, video

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has prompted a shift in learning method, from synchronous face-to-face to synchronous online. Traditional online learning methods, on the other hand, have proven ineffective. As a result, a new method is required to make learning more motivating and to achieve the desired learning outcome. Team-based learning is one of the newer learning methods that is gaining popularity today (TBL). TBL is a learning method that emphasizes team collaboration with minimal human resources unlike problem based learning. Students are expected to be more active in learning activities and to collaborate within their groups. However, some question whether online TBL is as effective as offline TBL. The purpose of this paper is to learn about the advantages and disadvantages of online TBL.  This literature review searched for English-language journals in the last 5 years (PubMed and NCBI databases) which focused on TBL online and offline learning. The satisfaction of students in the survey showed good results (85%). However, there was a weakness of online TBL such as decreased verbal communication, collaboration and leadership of students.  In contrast, student’s learning experiences and student’s written communication skills showed no difference with offline learning. Online TBL still proves effective with providing more space for student’s communication.keywords: Team Based Learning, Literatur Review, Pandemic Event Abstrak Pandemi COVID-19 telah mendorong perubahan metode pembelajaran, dari secara tatap muka menjadi secara daring. Kata kunci : Team Based Learning, literatur review, peristiwa pandemi

Abstract

Meningiomas are the most common benign intracranial tumors and make up 13-26% of all primary intracranial tumors. This tumor can be seen through radiological images and classified through the results of anatomical pathology examination. A 48-year-old woman came from Cileungsi Hospital with complaints of severe headaches in the past 3 days ago. When examined using a CT scan with contrast, an extra-axial mass was found in the right frontal region with prefocal edema around it. This supports the picture of high-grade meningioma which causes midline deviation towards the left. High-grade meningiomas, as one of the aggressive types of brain tumors, pose significant challenges in the fields of neurology and oncology. With its characteristic rapid growth and tendency to relapse, a thorough understanding of its diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis is essential in efforts to improve patient outcomes. This patient is scheduled for craniotomy surgery with a neurosurgeon specialist and found a tumor in the right parietal region with a solid consistency. with the patient's complaint lasting only 3 days, feeling severe headaches, it was found that the tumor image obtained was already large, making it is possible that the final outcome of the disease in these patients is poor due to delays in treatment. This case report shows that early detection of this disease needs to be done considering that the patient's complaints only lasted 3 days, which is not in line with the progression of the tumor itself.

Abstract

Stroke is the second leading cause of death and a significant factor in global disability. Its incidence is highest in developing nations, with ischemic strokes being the most prevalent. Only about 10% to 15% of first-time strokes are Intracerebral Hemorrhages (ICH). Primary hemorrhages make up the majority of strokes, while secondary hemorrhages account for roughly 10–25%. Hydrocephalus is a common complication of aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH). Additionally, the presence of hydrocephalus can indicate a greater likelihood of poor outcomes following an ICH. This case explains the natural history of subarachnoid and its management outside of developing countries. VP shunts are often used to treat post-hemorrhagic hydrocephalus, as was done in this case. Rebleeding after VP shunt placement is common. Therefore, appropriate management is needed to prevent increased mortality. Although proper management requires high costs in developing countries.
