Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused changes in student’s lifestyles, triggering visceral fat accumulation. Visceral fat accumulation increases the risk of obstructive sleep apnea because it causes airway collapse. This study aims to determine the relationship between visceral fat and the risk level of obstructive sleep apnea in medical students. The study used a cross-sectional design on 55 students from the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Veteran Jakarta, using a simple random sampling technique. Visceral fat was measured using the Tanita Body Composition analyzer, while the obstructive sleep apnea risk level was measured using the stop-bang questionnaire. The body mass index differed between the normal and high visceral fat groups (p=0.000). There were no differences in age, sedentary behavior, and eating habits between visceral fat groups (p > 0.05). Chi-square exact test results showed a relationship between visceral fat and the risk level of obstructive sleep apnea (p = 0.018). The higher the visceral fat, the higher the risk level of obstructive sleep apnea.

Abstract

Background. Malnutrition is a global problem with high morbidity and mortality rates. The fulfillment of adequate nutrition, especially in the early stage of life, is very important for growth and development. Early nutrition in a child’s life begins with exclusive breastfeeding which contains all the elements of nutrients needed. When breast milk is not sufficient to meet the nutritional needs of infants, specific nutritional interventions in the form of complementary foods are required. A review about the effect of the right time of complementary foods is needed to ensure optimal nutritional status. Objective. Analyzed the effect of timing of introduction to complementary foods on nutritional status in infants aged 6 – 24 months. Methods. A systematic literature review using PRISMA-P 2020 by reviewing studies obtained through databases such as Scopus, PubMed, and Google Scholar. Result. A total of 7 literatures were obtained with 5 literatures having significant results. The incidence of stunting is 1.21-13.3 times higher in complementary foods given at <6 months of age and 1.64-fold in >8 months. The incidence of underweight occurs 2.14 times in complementary foods given at the age of 4-5 months. The incidence of wasting has a 2.86-fold risk in complementary foods given at the age of 0-1 months. The risk of being overweight can occur 1.50-1.66 times in complementary foods given at less than 6 months. Conclusion. Early (<6 months) and late (>8 months) introduction to complementary foods has an effect on the incidence of stunting, underweight, wasting, and overweight in infants aged 6-24 months. Keywords: Malnutrition, Complementary Foods, Nutritional Status AbstrakLatar belakang. Abstract

Introductions: Medical students are required to lifelong learning.  Electroencephalog-raphy is a neuroscience tool that can be used to record brain wave activity related to a person's cognitive function. Objective: This study was conducted to see the relationship between self-regulated learning and cognitive function with quantitative electroencepha-logram (qEEG) parameters. Methods: This study used an observa-tional analytic approach to assess self-regulated learning and cog-nitive function using the MSLQ and MoCA-INA questionnaires. qEEG recording to see brain wave activity was done when the eyes were open and closed and seen in alpha and beta waves. The sam-ple of this study amounted to 32 respondents who were willing to carry out each research procedure.  Results: The study findings reveal a significant correlation between SRL and qEEG parameters. In the open-eye condition, such a correla-tion exists in the frontal and central regions with regard to alpha waves (P = 0.046 and P = 0.047). In contrast, in the closed-eye condition, it exists in the occipital, central, and parietal regions with alpha waves (P = 0.005, P = 0.021, and P = 0.049) and the central region with beta waves (P = 0.030). There is a significant correla-tion between cognitive function and qEEG parameters observed in both open and closed-eye conditions within the frontal region beta waves (P = 0.024, P = 0.044, and P = 0.021). Conclusions: There is a relationship between SRL and cognitive function with alpha and beta wave activity on qEEG recording.

Abstract

Poor management of diabetes leads to damage in organs and body tissues, impacting crucial organs like the heart, kidneys, eyes, and nerves. Although there is no permanent cure for diabetes, early detection enables effective disease management, which researchers and medical professionals agree enhances recovery prospects. The rapid progress in information technology has facilitated early prediction and diagnosis of diseases through Machine Learning (ML), a subset of Artificial Intelligence (AI) comprising various algorithms such as Neural Network, Support Vector Machine (SVM), kNN, Random Forest, and Naïve Bayes. These algorithms serve as effective tools in handling predictive data. Early prediction of diabetes holds the potential to control the disease and save lives. Therefore, the focus of this research is to develop a predictive model for diabetes status by utilizing various algorithms, but the level of validation of this model still needs to be tested. The dataset utilized consists of information from several diabetic patients, including eight input variables (pregnancies, glucose levels, blood pressure, skin thickness, insulin levels, BMI, age, and diabetes pedigree function) and one output variable (diabetes status). Research findings indicate that the SVM algorithm exhibits superior accuracy (84%) in predicting diabetes status compared to other algorithms such as neural network, Random Forest, Naïve Bayes, and kNN.

Abstract

One Indonesian herbal medicine that deserves attention is Physalis minimal Linn. Identifying medications and their use in the correct dosages is crucial for effective treatment. Country gooseberry, or Physalis minima Linn, has anti-cancer, anti-diabetic, analgesic, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory properties. This paper aims to reveal the potential use of Physalis minima Linn in stroke ischemic disease, a substantial current health issue in Indonesia. We used Scopus and Google databases to screen the intended articles with keywords used are TITLE-ABS- KEY (stroke) AND physalis AND antioxidant OR antiinflammation, "Physalis minima" and stroke ischemic" and "thrombolytic" OR " Antiinflammatory" OR "Antioxidant". Two other fellow researchers screened the resulting articles and read the articles together, and resumed the narration. Ten articles resulted in the screening—however, only 1 article was included in this article from the Scopus Databases. However, we got five articles out of 10 articles from Google databases. We divided the narration based on several items, such as anti-thrombolytic effects, antioxidant and antiinflammation, and ethnography of the plant. Conclusions. Physalis minima have its potency to be explored as an alternative treatment to stroke ischemic. Firstly P.minima tends to thrombolytic clot in case of thrombosis in stroke ischemia. Secondly, P.minima have an effect of antioxidants and anti-inflammation that is useful in acute stroke ischemia.

Abstract

There are many studies analyzing the flavonoid content based on the total flavonoid content (TFC) of wungu leaves through the extraction process with different extraction solvents. So, this review using literature review methodology is aimed to find out the type of extraction solvent that has the most optimum condition based on the highest TFC. The databases for collecting data involved PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar. Temporary, the results based on some previous studies vary greatly. Two of four selected articles showed that the highest TFC was found in semi-polar solvents; ethyl acetate and acetone. It is suspected that the samples contain more aglycones (a subtype of flavonoids) that can be soluble in semi-polar solvents. Whereas, the two others showed that the nonpolar solvent (hexane) had the highest TFC. It is suspected that the samples contain more subtypes of flavonoids called isoflavones, flavanones, flavones, and flavonols that can be soluble in nonpolar solvents. To get the appropriate and best standardized extract of wungu leaves, re-examination of this optimization based on the highest TFC in further research is necessary by using different extraction solvents that are equally polar like water, methanol, and ethanol; because the flavonoids as secondary metabolites in plants are basically polar.
