Abstract

This research explores the challenges faced in implementing edutainment in elementary schools as an alternative method for increasing student motivation and involvement and honing their problem-solving skills. This research is based on the increasing need to create an engaging and effective learning atmosphere and problems related to low student motivation and monotonous learning methods. The research method used is a qualitative approach with the type of case study research. Data collection techniques are carried out through in-depth interviews with teachers, direct observation in the classroom, and documentation of learning activities. The findings show that although edutainment succeeds in increasing student engagement, the main challenge is balancing the entertainment element and the educational objectives. In addition, efficient time management and selecting appropriate educational games are key in optimizing the benefits of edutainment. The contribution of this research is to provide insight into how the implementation of edutainment can be optimized at the elementary school level, as well as identify obstacles that need to be considered by educators. The recommendation of this study is to create the right balance between entertainment and learning and to provide training to teachers to choose and apply educational games that are relevant to the learning objectives.

Abstract

Foundation management is fundamental in successfully managing religious-based educational institutions, such as Islamic boarding schools and modern dormitories. This study compares the managerial systems of two academic institutions, namely the Islamic Boarding School of Syafi'iyah and the Integrated Insan the Dormitory, which have different approaches but the same goal: to form superior individuals in academic, spiritual, and moral aspects. The Islamic Boarding School of Syafi'iyah uses a traditional model based on classical Islamic values with centralized decision-making. At the same time, the Integrated Insan Dormitory adopts modern management based on participation with a more professional organizational structure. These differences include decision-making patterns, human resource management, and approaches to character education. This study aims to identify the advantages and challenges of both managerial approaches and offer solutions to overcome the polemics in the management of educational foundations. This study is expected to provide new insights for educational foundation managers in developing effective managerial systems to meet the needs of their respective institutions.

Abstract

This study investigates the controversies surrounding using social media as an educational tool, focusing on its potential to enhance digital literacy and the risks associated with misinformation. As social media platforms increasingly influence educational practices, this study explores how these platforms can be leveraged to strengthen digital literacy skills among students while addressing the challenges posed by misinformation. The study aims to answer three main questions: How is social media used as an educational tool to enhance digital literacy? What factors contribute to the spread of misinformation in academic contexts? Moreover, what strategies can be implemented to mitigate misinformation's negative impacts while maximizing social media's educational benefits? The findings suggest that while social media has significant potential to enhance digital literacy, spreading misinformation remains a critical concern. By addressing these issues, this study offers valuable insights for educators, policymakers, and social media users better to navigate the complex relationship between social media and education, thereby fostering a more informed and savvy generation of digital learners.

A qualitative approach with a case study method was employed to gain an in-depth understanding of the dynamics within the school environment. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis, and were analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that consistent and supportive leadership significantly contributes to the improvement of teacher performance, particularly through professional development, classroom observation, and performance evaluation. The study underscores the importance of structured leadership strategies in fostering an educational environment conducive to both teacher growth and student success. The implications suggest that school leaders should adopt more systematic and frequent evaluation practices to sustain and enhance teacher performance.

Abstract

This research explores the integration of Islamic values in character education and the critical role of teachers as role models within the framework of contextual learning. The primary objective of this study is to examine how the application of contextual teaching methods, combined with the consistency of teacher behavior, influences the internalization of character values among students at Nurul Jadid Junior High School, Kraksaan. A qualitative approach was employed using a case study method, allowing for an in-depth exploration of teachers' experiences and the dynamics within the classroom. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and document analysis, and subsequently analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The findings reveal that integrating character values such as honesty, responsibility, tolerance, and cooperation into the curriculum, supported by teachers acting as role models, significantly enhances the character development of students. The implications of this research underscore the importance of developing contextual teaching strategies and ensuring consistent teacher behavior to foster effective character education. This study contributes significantly to the literature on character education, particularly within the context of Islamic Religious Education.

Abstract

This study investigates how teaching load and implementing project-based learning (PBL) models influence teacher performance, specifically focusing on the mediating role of work compensation. Despite the increasing adoption of PBL in classrooms, limited research has examined its direct and indirect effects on educators themselves. Using a quantitative survey approach, data were collected from 300 teachers across several schools in Probolinggo Regency. The research employed Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) through SmartPLS to analyze direct and mediated relationships between the variables. Findings reveal that teaching load has a significant positive effect on both work compensation and teacher performance, whereas the direct impact of PBL on performance is statistically insignificant. However, PBL positively influences compensation, significantly contributing to performance improvement. These results suggest that compensation mechanisms are crucial in translating instructional innovations and workload demands into tangible improvements in teacher outcomes. The study underscores the importance of aligning institutional compensation policies with workload realities and pedagogical strategies to foster a more effective and motivated teaching workforce. The findings offer practical implications for educational stakeholders seeking to improve teacher performance through a balanced consideration of workload, compensation, and teaching methodology.

Abstract

Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia are growing rapidly, yet many still struggle to maintain competitiveness and community trust. This study examines the influence of service quality and work commitment on preferences in choosing pesantren, with patronage figures (kyai) as mediating variables. Using a quantitative explanatory causal design, data were collected from 380 respondents, consisting of students and guardians at Nurul Jadid Islamic Boarding School, East Java. The data were analyzed with Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling. The results reveal that service quality significantly affects both patronage figures (β = 0.502, p < 0.001) and preferences (β = 0.243, p < 0.01), whereas work commitment significantly influences patronage figures (β = 0.354, p < 0.001) but has no direct effect on preferences (β = 0.096, p = 0.212). Patronage figures have the strongest impact on preferences (β = 0.539, p < 0.001) and mediate the effects of both service quality (β = 0.475, p < 0.001) and work commitment (β = 0.233, p < 0.001). These findings confirm that technical factors such as service quality and teacher commitment shape community preferences only when reinforced by the authority and legitimacy of kyai leadership. The study advances the SERVQUAL and Social Exchange frameworks in faith-based education and suggests that pesantren should integrate service improvements with stronger leadership visibility to sustain community loyalty and institutional competitiveness. The research implies that to effectively increase community preference for Islamic boarding school institutions (pesantren), institutions must not only focus on tangible improvements in service quality but also strategically emphasize the selection and visibility of a respected patronage figure (kyai) who possesses strong legitimacy in the eyes of the community.
