Abstract

One of the internal factors that play an important role in seed quality is the level of the phytohormone auxin. Efforts to increase auxin in seeds include developing new varieties with increased indigenous auxin, such as those found in mutant tomatoes from Micro-Tom, namely iaa9-3 and iaa9-5. This research was conducted to determine the germination response of iaa9-3 and iaa9-5 mutant tomato seeds at different levels of the fruit maturation stage. The research was carried out at the Seed Technology Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Padjadjaran University, and the Seed Testing Laboratory of the Center for Standard Testing of Vegetable Plant Instruments. The response design used was a completely randomized factorial design consisting of two factors and repeated three times. The first factor was the iaa9-3, iaa9-5, and Wild-Type Micro-Tom (WT-MT) mutants as controls. The second factor is the fruit maturation stage, which consists of Breaker, Pink, and Red. The research results showed that there was an interaction between genotype and fruit maturation stage on the parameters of germination, growth simultaneity, and hypocotyl length.  The harvest stage for tomatoes to produce normal strong seed germination was the pink stage in all tomato genotypes tested. The best germination rate was shown by WTMT seeds at the pink stage, genotype iaa9-3 at the red stage, and genotype iaa9-5 at the red or pink stage. The effect of fruit maturity stage on the synchronization of sprout growth was relatively not significantly different in mutant tomatoes, but it had an effect in WTMT tomatoes, namely the best pink stage.

Abstract

Botnets are a common cyber-attack method on the internet, causing infrastructure damage, data theft, and malware distribution. The continuous evolution and adaptation to enhanced defense tactics make botnets a strong and difficult threat to combat. In light of this, the study's main objective was to find out how well techniques like principal component analysis (PCA), synthetic minority oversampling technique (SMOTE), and long short-term memory (LSTM) can help find botnet attacks. PCA shows the ability to reduce the feature dimensions in network data, allowing for a more efficient and effective representation of the patterns contained. The SMOTE addresses class imbalances in the dataset, enhancing the model's ability to recognize suspicious activity. Furthermore, LSTM classifies sequential data, understanding complex network patterns and behaviors often used by botnets. The combination of these three methods provided a substantial improvement in detecting suspicious botnet activities. We also evaluated the effectiveness using performance metrics such as accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score. The results showed an accuracy of 96.77%, precision of 88.95%, recall of 88.58%, and F1-score of 88.64%, indicating that the proposed model was reliable in detecting botnet traffic compared to other deep learning models. Furthermore, LSTM can classify sequential data, understanding complex network patterns and behaviors often used by botnets.

Abstract

Bibliographic databases are used to measure the performance of researchers, universities and research institutions. Thus, high data quality is required and data duplication is avoided. One of the weaknesses of the threshold-based approach in duplication detection is the low accuracy level. Therefore, another approach is required to improve duplication detection. This study proposes a method that combines threshold-based and rule-based approaches to perform duplication detection. These two approaches are implemented in the comparison stage. The cosine similarity function is used to create weight vectors from the features. Then, the comparison operator is used to determine whether the pair of records are grouped as duplication or not. Three research databases: Web of Science (WoS), Scopus, and Google Scholar (GS) on the Science and Technology Index (SINTA) database are investigated. Rule 4 and Rule 5 provide the best performance. For WoS dataset, the accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-measure values were 100.00%. For Scopus dataset, the accuracy and precision values were 100.00%, recall: 98.00%, and the F1-measure value is 98.00%. For GS dataset, the accuracy value was 100.00%, precision: 99.00%, recall: 97.00%, and the F1-measure value is 98.00%. The proposed method is potential tool for accurate detection on duplication records in publication databases.

Abstract

Abstract

The fruit sweetness is the main target in melon plant production. The highest criterion of sweetness is excellent, with 16% of total sugar content. Modification of essential plant nutrients is the alternative to reach that category. So, this study aims to obtain optimum NPK doses using a simple regression method. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse with a soilless culture hydroponic system from August until November 2023 using a completely randomized design (CRD) with five treatments and four replications. The parameters included leaf area, plant dry matter, leaf nutrient uptake, fruit weight, and fruit sugar content. Pearson correlation analysis showed that the total sugar content in fruit has a significantly positive correlation with potassium in NPK fertilizer treatments such as K2O dose and K2O uptake at 7 WAP, i.e., 0.932 and 0.973, respectively. According to the regression model y = -50.7 + 1.079 N + 0.251 P2O5 + 0.528 K2O, the NPK formula fertilizer containing 31.56 g N, 23.99 g P2O5, and 50.42 g K2O can be used by grower to produce excellent fruit sugar content.

Abstract

Gibberellins are key plant hormones, and their application in citrus plants is frequently reported. This review aims to provide an overview of the application of gibberellic acid (GA3) in citrus cultivation, emphasizing their effects on growth, flowering, fruit quality, and ripening. Citrus fruits often face challenges like irregular fruit set, size inconsistency, and environmental stress, impacting yield and profitability, with exogenous gibberellin application as a potential solution. Applying gibberellins can accelerate citrus seed germination and seedling growth, enhance vegetative growth, inhibit flowering, delay fruit ripening, and improve fruit quality. However, the efficacy of gibberellins varies across species and conditions, highlighting the need for reference studies. This work presents an alternative option for optimizing gibberellin use to support sustainable citrus production practices.

Abstract

Gibberellin (GAs) promotes plant growth processes like germination, shoot elongation, root development, and flowering, while its inhibition is occasionally used in some vegetable crop practices. This paper aims to review the current literature on GAs inhibitors in practical vegetable crops and suggest future strategies for increasing yield. In some vegetable crops, inhibiting GAs with natural (abscisic acid, ethylene) or synthetic (paclobutrazol, prohexadione-Ca) regulators is key to improving yield and quality. Abscisic acid (ABA) counteracts GAs in germination and stress adaptation, while ethylene (ET) opposes GAs in senescence and growth inhibition. The application of paclobutrazol (PBZ) and prohexadione-Ca (Pro-Ca) is known to inhibit synthetic GAs, resulting in denser plants while improving plant photosynthetic efficiency, which improves crop yield. Achieving desired growth and yields with GAs inhibitors relies on precise dosing, emphasizing the importance of review studies for advancing vegetable cultivation.

Abstract

Existing defense tools against the insider attacks are rare, not in real time fashion and suffer from low detection accuracy as the attacks become more sophisticated. Thus, a detection tool with online learning ability and better accuracy is required urgently. This study proposes an insider attack detection model by leveraging entity behavior analysis technique based on a memory prediction model combined with the recursive feature elimination (RFE) feature selection algorithm. The memory-prediction model provides ability to perform online learning, while the RFE algorithm is deployed to reduce data dimensionality. Dataset for the experiment was created from a real network with 150 active users, and mixed with attacks data from publicly available dataset. The dataset is simulated on a testbed network environment consisting of a server configured to run 4 virtual servers and other two computers as traffic generator and detection tool. The experimental results show 94.01% of detection accuracy, 95.64% of precision, 99.28% of sensitivity, and 96.08% of F1-score. The proposed model is able to perform on-the-fly learning to address evolving nature of the attacks. Combining memory prediction models with the RFE for user behavior analysis is a promising approach, and achieving high accuracy is definitely a positive outcome.
