Abstract

This study aims to determine the species diversity of mangrove crabs from the family Ocypodidae in the mangrove area of Lalombi Village, Banawa Selatan District, Donggala Regency. The type of research used is descriptive quantitative. The study was conducted in the mangrove area of Lalombi Village, Banawa Selatan District, Donggala Regency, from February to April 2025. The sampling location was determined using a purposive sampling method, considering mangrove vegetation density and site accessibility. Crab samples were collected directly using the hand collection method during low tide. The population and samples in this study consisted of all Ocypodidae mangrove crab species found at the research site. Data analysis was performed by calculating the Shannon-Wiener diversity index (H') to determine the level of species diversity. A total of five crab species were found: Uca dussumieri, Uca perplexa, Uca cryptica, Uca jocelynae, and Uca coarctata. The diversity index value of Ocypodidae mangrove crabs obtained in the Lalombi Village mangrove area was 1.098. Based on the Shannon-Wiener index category, a value of 1 ≤ H' ≤ 3 indicates moderate diversity; therefore, the value of 1.098 reflects a moderate level of diversity. This moderate diversity indicates that the mangrove ecosystem in the study area is still capable of supporting several Ocypodidae species, although it may have experienced ecological pressures such as human activities or changes in habitat quality.

Abstract

This study aimed to identify bivalve species with high microplastic content and the types of microplastics present in those bivalves within the mangrove ecosystem of Desa Tanah Mea, Donggala Regency.  A quantitative descriptive method was used. Sampling locations were determined using purposive sampling, divided into two stations: Station I, a mangrove ecosystem adjacent to a residential area, and Station II, a mangrove ecosystem near the coastline. Bivalve samples were collected using the hand collection method, with 10 individuals per species.  Subsequently, bivalve tissues were processed, and microplastic content was analyzed. Data analysis involved counting the number and types of microplastics from the field samples using an abundance formula. Results showed that Polymesoda erosa, found at Station I, contained 22.2 microplastic particles per individual, comprising 104 fragments, 22 films, 92 fibers, and 4 foams.  Anadara granosa, found at Station II, contained significantly fewer microplastics, with 2.5 particles per individual, consisting of 12 fragments, 5 films, and 8 fibers. Polymesoda erosa was the bivalve species with the highest microplastic content, with fragments, films, fibers, and foams identified.  Therefore, bivalves can serve as bioindicators for assessing microplastic pollution levels in the mangrove ecosystem of Desa Tanah Mea, Donggala Regency.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the level of diversity of insect species in various agricultural lands in Basidondo District, Tolitoli Regency, Central Sulawesi. The research was conducted in January-March 2025 using descriptive methods and quantitative approaches that aim to make a description or descriptive of a situation objectively using numbers. Insect sampling techniques were carried out with four types, namely pitfall trap, light trap, sweeping net, and hand collection. The insects obtained were then identified according to the taxonomic order with the help of insect determination key book, and analyzed using Shannon-Wiener diversity index (H'). The results showed that there were 24 types of insect families that were successfully identified. The value of the diversity index (H') was 3.13, which was classified as high diversity. These results indicate that agricultural land in Basidondo District has environmental conditions that support the diversity of insect communities, which can contribute to the stability of agricultural ecosystems. High diversity indicates a balance between insect pests and natural enemies, as well as the role of insects as pollinators and decomposers.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology in education demands innovative learning models that combine flexibility, interactivity, and collaboration to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes. This classroom action research aimed to analyze the effectiveness of a blended learning model integrated with the cooperative Teams Games Tournament (TGT) approach in improving students’ learning outcomes and active participation in Biology subjects. The study was conducted in two cycles involving 28 students of class XI H at SMAN 4 Palu during the 2024/2025 academic year. Data were collected through observation sheets and cognitive learning tests. The results showed a significant improvement in both teacher performance and student learning outcomes. The average teacher activity increased from 78.2% (Good) to 93.7% (Very Good), while students’ classical mastery rose from 53.57% to 79%, with the N-Gain improving from “Low” (0.29) to “Moderate” (0.49). Statistical analysis using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test confirmed a significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores (p < 0.001), with an effect size (r = -1.000) categorized as very large. Additionally, students’ active participation increased from “Fairly Active” to “Active” in most aspects. These findings indicate that integrating blended learning with the TGT model effectively enhances both cognitive achievement and engagement in Biology learning.
