Abstract

Empowerment is a key factor in accentuating the role of farmer communities as the main actors in managing the cultivation of Indonesian staple food, that is, rice. This study was intended to analyze the factors influencing the empowerment of farmers to manage environmentally friendly lowland rice production for sustainable agricultural development in Banten Province. With a descriptive design, this research collected data through a questionnaire survey involving 180 respondents, sampled from a predefined population of rice farmers. It was carried out in three regencies in the province, namely Serang, Pandeglang, and Lebak, for three months from April to June 2019. The data were analyzed using statistical inference, SEM, in LISREL 8.73 (Linear Structural Relationships). The results showed that the empowerment of lowland rice farmers to adopt eco-friendly innovation was determined by individual characteristics (i.e., non-formal and formal educational attainment and cosmopolitanism) and the existence of encouragement to implement the innovation (i.e., support from farmer community, market support, and technological information support). In conclusion, to increase the empowerment of rice farmers in the scheme of sustainable food security, farmers, government, and other relevant parties need to pay attention to the characteristics of innovation users and promote the adoption of eco-friendly practices in lowland rice cultivation.

Identification of risk sources is conducted descriptively. Analysis result show that vegetables with high price risk with variation coefficient are spinach (0.058), long beans (0.052), potato (0.057), cucumber (0.094), cabbage (0.116), chayote (0.056), bean sprouts (0.059), long eggplant (0.051) and tomato (0.119). It can be concluded that tomato is vegetable with the highest risk which is followed by cabbage, cucumber, bean sprouts, spinach, potato, long beans, and long eggplant.Risk sources are generally caused by vegetables character which is typically perishable and supply fluctuations which is caused by pandemic condition.

The research data used are primary and secondary data which are processed descriptively and quantitatively. Quantitative data is processed using a simultaneous equation model with the least squares method (2SLS). The outpouring of work on aren business is significantly affected by the number of sugar palm trees owned and the outpouring of work time on non-aren businesses. Job outpouring on non-aren business is significantly affected by income from non-aren business while other variables do not significantly influence. Variables that significantly influence palm sugar production are production costs and the number of sugar palm trees owned. While the outpouring of aren business work time has no significant effect on production.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the level of farmer capacity in managing lowland rice farming in Pandeglang district and the determinants that can influence the capacity building of lowland rice farmers in supporting family food security in Pandeglanag Regency. The population in this study were lowland rice farmers who were in the research location. The research location was in three districts, namely Munjul, Sobang and Panimbang districts. The research design used qualitative and quantitative approaches involving 144 respondents representing three districts, the data collected were primary data and secondary data. Primary data were collected through interviews using questionnaires, in-depth interviews, observation and documentation study. The data consists of the characteristics of the respondent (ξ1); Technological innovation (ξ2); Extension activities (ξ3); Capacity (η1); and Family food safety (η2). The selection of respondents was carried out by proportional random sampling (proportionally random sampling) based on the research criteria. Data analysis used descriptive statistics, one way ANOVA and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The results showed that the capacity of lowland rice farmers was in the medium category. The element that most influenced the capacity level was the respondent's characteristic of 0.81 (76.25 percent) through land tenure and farming experience. Meanwhile, extension activities only contributed 0.07 (2.3 percent) through indicators of extension methods and intensity. Meanwhile, technological innovation still has a negative effect on the capacity of farmers in increasing family food security. In general, the capacity of lowland rice farmers has high support for family food security, especially in indicators of consumption levels and food sustainability.

Pengambilan data dilakukan bulan April sampai Juni 2019.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic is being felt in all sectors, including the agricultural sector and food UMKM. The agricultural sector is one of the priorities in dealing with the spread of Covid- 19 in Indonesia. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic that was felt the most by farmers was the price of agricultural products which experienced a drastic decline due to the declining purchasing power of the people. This is not comparable to the effort and operational costs incurred by farmers when cultivating (Azamfirei, 2020). This research was conducted at the Riyan Farm Garden in Cipocok Jaya District, Serang City. This study aims to analyze the income of the hydroponic lettuce commodity as well as develop e-commerce and conventional marketing strategies that are appropriate to be implemented. The data used in this study are primary data and secondary data. Sampling was done by survey method, with 12 respondents. Collecting data using a questionnaire which is then analyzed using a SWOT analysis. The results of the calculation of the income analyst of hydroponic lettuce for the cost of production is Rp. 13,000/Kg. The profit obtained in terms of per kilogram on the sale of lettuce E-commerce is Rp. 7,000/Kg, while for conventional lettuce it is Rp. 2,603/Kg. The right strategy to be implemented based on the results of the SWOT analysis is to maintain existing potential markets and expand marketing reach. Optimizing cropping patterns according to SOPs to avoid production failures. Maintain product quality, manage product availability and increase product quantity. Innovate on products and add business partners to expand marketing.
