Abstract

The challenges faced by the world of education such as universities are not only producing graduates who have good intellectuality, mentality, and morality, but also high productivity and independence. Aquaponics-based aquaculture activities are one of the models that can be developed as a pilot project in the development of productivity and independence of the academic community. This community service activity aimed to present a model in the Program Hilirisasi Produktif (PHP) that can be implemented within the University of Bangka Belitung in particular and the academic community at large. This activity was carried out through an analysis of strength, weaknesses, opportunity, and threat, the stages of preparation of facilities and infrastructure for the application of aquaponics-based aquaculture techniques, the stages of program implementation, and the stages of results evaluation. The activities that have been carried out within a period of three months have produced juvenile of catfish, tilapia fish, broodstock of tilapia, and kangkung vegetables (Ipomea reptans Poir). The sustainability of this activity is very important to make aquaponics-based aquaculture become an effort to produce an independent community in the food sector.

Abstract

The research was aimed to evaluate the phenotypes profile of rasbora fish from Bangka Belitung Islands for aquaculture development. Samples of rasbora fish were collected from the rivers near Balunijuk Village, Bangka Residence. Three species of rasbora (Cyprinidae Family) which consisted of Rasbora einthovenii, Brevibora dorsiocellata, and Trigionopoma gracile.were collected . The truss morphometrics measurement was conducted to determine the phenotypic profiles of the three species. The results showed that the main identity characteristics to differentiate the three species were tail length (TL) and body width III (W-III). The highest survival rate was achieved by Brevibora dorsiocellata cultured in waters with pH 5-6 which was 93.30 ± 5.80%. The lowest survival rate was attained by Trigonopoma gracile which was 76.60 ± 5.80% cultured in pH 5-6 and 7. The Rasbora einthovenii cultured in waters with pH 5-6 showed the highest absolute weight gain compared to that of cultured in waters of pH 7. Brevibora dorsiocellata and Trigonopoma gracile tended to have better absolute weight and absolute length gain when cultured in waters with pH 5-6 compared to that of pH 7.

Abstract

The potential of freshwater fisheries in Bangka Regency, Bangka Belitung Province, is sufficient to support fisheries activities in this area. An activity that is quite prominent is catfish farming using swamps and tarpaulin ponds on limited land. In this study, the analysis of cultivation activities was carried out on the Bukit Dempo community group who became partners in the national community service activities, in cooperation with Universitas Airlangga and Bangka Belitung University. Characteristics of the pond using a combination of fixed nets with a net diameter of 0.5 cm. In the pond also found water plants in the form of water hyacinth which is expected to be able to make a symbiotic use of the organic material that has been left behind from feed and catfish waste. The cultivation system is classified as semi-intensive with a combination of commercial feed with high protein (31-33%).  The main problem in this cultivation system is low productivity and the lack of technology applied in an effort to increase production efficiency Furthermore, high production yields are marketed to Pangkal Pinang City and also to local areas around the Belinyu sub-district. Technical constraints include Motile Aeromonas Septicemia (MAS) due to the bacterium Aeromonas hydrophylla, which causes about 10% of mortality in commodities before harvest. There has been no treatment action in overcoming the disease, so it is necessary to be careful in avoiding death due to disease by observing catfish at the change of seasons.
