Abstract

This study aimed to determine the relationship between arm muscle strength and wrist flexibility and the overhand service ability of volleyball athletes at Universitas Negeri Padang (UNP). A quantitative correlational research design was employed. The population consisted of 20 UNP volleyball athletes, with 17 athletes selected as the sample using purposive sampling. Arm muscle strength was measured using a one-minute push-up test, wrist flexibility was assessed with a goniometer, and overhand service ability was evaluated through six service attempts. Data were analyzed using the Pearson Product-Moment correlation and multiple correlation tests with SPSS version 32.0 at a significance level of 0.05. The results revealed that arm muscle strength (r = 0.966; p < 0.05) and wrist flexibility (r = 0.944; p < 0.05) each had a very strong relationship with overhand service ability. Moreover, both variables jointly demonstrated a very strong relationship with overhand service performance.

Abstract

This study aims to describe athlete discipline in enhancing the quality of volleyball training at SMK Negeri 1 Solok Selatan. The research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Research informants—comprising the coach, athletes, and the Deputy Principal for Student Affairs—were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and subsequently analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, with validity verified through triangulation. The results indicate that athlete discipline is good, evidenced by adherence to training schedules and rules, responsibility in executing training programs, and earnestness in following the coach's instructions. Despite challenges such as tardiness and inconsistent attendance, the coach provides continuous guidance and supervision. Athlete discipline contributes to improved training quality, reflected in training regularity, heightened spirit and teamwork, and the development of the athletes' technical skills.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of top service training on the re-service ability of sepak takraw athletes at BBTC Padang City. This research employed a quasi-experimental method using a one-group pretest-posttest design. The population consisted of 7 athletes and all participants were selected as research samples through total sampling. Data were collected using a re-service skill test and analyzed using paired sample t-test. The findings revealed an increase in the mean score of re-service ability from 20.0 in the pretest to 27.3 in the posttest. The statistical analysis showed a mean difference of -7.28571, t-value of -12.885, and significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). These results indicate that top service training significantly improved the re-service ability of sepak takraw athletes. Therefore, top service training can be recommended as an effective training method to improve re-service performance in sepak takraw players.

Abstract

Low attendance consistency and limited training facilities are key psychological challenges for sub-district athletes. This study evaluates intrinsic motivation of First Baso Basketball Club athletes based on stimulation, desire to learn, and personal accomplishment. A quantitative descriptive design was used with 20 players selected through total sampling. Data were collected using a 15-item Likert questionnaire and analyzed descriptively. Results show high intrinsic motivation with an average score of 78.25%. Stimulation scored highest at 81.50%, followed by desire to learn at 79.25%, and personal accomplishment at 74.00%. Overall, athletes remain committed despite limited facilities. Strengthening personal goal setting is recommended to sustain training participation during non-competition periods.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of aerobic exercise on the motor skills of female students at SMK Negeri 4 Padang. The study used a quasi-experimental approach with a One Group Pretest–Posttest Design, referring to Mawarda and Nurhidayat (2021). The study population consisted of 17 female students, while a sample of 10 students was selected using purposive sampling. These students were students who had previously actively participated in extracurricular aerobic exercise activities. Motor skills were measured using the Barrow Motor Ability Test, which included the Standing Broad Jump, Softball Throw, Zigzag Run, Wall Pass, Medicine Ball Put, and 60-Yard Dash. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro–Wilk normality test and paired t-test. The results showed that the average total motor ability T-score increased from 300.00 ± 20.83 in the pretest to 322.21 ± 18.37 in the posttest after participating in 16 aerobic exercise sessions. The results of the hypothesis test showed a calculated t-value of 2.964, which was greater than the t-table value of 2.262 at a significance level of α = 0.05 (df = 9), thus the hypothesis was accepted. Thus, it can be concluded that aerobic exercise significantly improved the motor skills of female students at SMK Negeri 4 Padang

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the relationship between body weight and body height on 50-meter freestyle swimming speed among Bulakan Aquatic Club athletes. This research employed a quantitative correlational design. The population consisted of 10 athletes and all were selected as samples through total sampling. Data collection was conducted using digital scales, stadiometer measurements, and a 50-meter freestyle swimming test. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, Shapiro-Wilk normality test, Pearson Product Moment correlation, coefficient of determination, multiple correlation, and F-test. The results indicated a significant relationship between body weight and freestyle swimming speed (r = -0.637; p = 0.048) with a contribution of 40.6%. Body height also showed a significant relationship with freestyle swimming speed (r = -0.680; p = 0.031) with a contribution of 46.24%. Simultaneously, body weight and body height produced R = 0.680 and R² = 0.462. However, the F-test yielded a significance value of 0.114 (p > 0.05), indicating no statistically significant relationship simultaneously. Therefore, body weight and body height have significant partial relationships but not a significant simultaneous relationship with 50-meter freestyle swimming speed.

Abstract

The problem addressed in this study was the relatively low level of forearm passing skills among students participating in the volleyball extracurricular program at SMK Negeri 2 Pariaman. This study aimed to determine the effect of repetitive training on improving the forearm passing skills of students in the volleyball extracurricular program at SMK Negeri 2 Pariaman. This study employed a quasi-experimental research design. The population consisted of all 12 students who participated in the volleyball extracurricular program at SMK Negeri 2 Pariaman. Since the population was small, a total sampling technique was used, resulting in a sample of 12 participants. The research instrument was a volleyball passing skills test. Data were analyzed using the independent mean difference test (t-test). The results showed that repetitive training had a significant effect on improving the forearm passing skills of the volleyball extracurricular students at SMK Negeri 2 Pariaman, tcount 4,38 > ttable1,79. The average forearm passing score increased by 3.1 points. These findings indicate that repetitive training is highly effective in improving forearm passing skills.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the physical condition profile of table tennis athletes at PTM Rajawali in Padang City based on agility, arm muscle strength, hand flexibility, eye-hand coordination, and reaction time. The study used a quantitative descriptive method. The study population and sample consisted of 8 athletes from PTM Rajawali in Padang. Data were collected through tests and measurements, including a 4 × 10-meter shuttle run to measure agility, push-ups to measure upper arm muscle strength, a goniometer to measure hand flexibility, a hand-eye coordination test to measure hand-eye coordination, and a ruler drop test to measure reaction time. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including mean values, frequency distributions, and percentages based on the norms for each component. The results showed that the average agility score of 16.25 seconds fell into the “very good” category; arm muscle strength of 35.50 repetitions fell into the “poor” category; hand flexibility of 73.75° fell into the “poor” category; hand-eye coordination of 15.63 points fell into the “poor” category; and reaction time of 12.63 cm fell into the “good” category. Overall, the physical fitness profile of the Rajawali PTM athletes is not yet consistent across all measured components. Agility and reaction time show relatively good results, while arm muscle strength, hand flexibility, and eye-hand coordination still require attention in the training program.
