Abstract

Digital transformation has been sounding since 2021 and massive improvement is still being conducted after the outbreak. The transformation cannot be separated from the use of language as the media in linking the demand and supply, given that copywriting skill is urgently needed as many people enjoy content. By organizing workshop on copywriting skill, the goal of supporting side hustler to get the opportunity in this field was gratefully achieved. A day workshop collaborated with Badan Kreatif Denpasar (Denpasar Creative Agency) has raised the confidence of youth as the target to elicit their passion in copywriting. The impact of the workshop is positively encouraging the youth passion in having remote working as their dominant personality trait.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis paper entitled The Analysis of Translation Techniques of Architectural Terms Found inModern Interior Design is mainly aimed at identifying the translation techniques used by the translator totranslate the architectural terms and is also aimed at analyzing the constituent structure of the architecturalterms in the target language. The data focused on the translation of architectural terms found in the bilingualbook of interior design compilations entitled Modern Interior Design. In the early stages of observation hasfound there are some different structure of phrase that used in architectural term from the source languagethat used by the translator to make them acceptable in target language. So this research tried to identify howthe different structure of both source and target language to describe architectural term to be accepted intranslation as the technique of the translation process. Moreover the translation technique that used by thetranslator analyzed to find out why that be acceptable in target language. The method of collecting the datain this research used direct observation method. The bilingual book of Modern Interior Design read. Then,the sentences that represent the architectural terms chose. After the data collected, they analyzed. The dataanalyzed is the results of the research. There are two main theories used in analyzing the data; the theoryof translation technique is proposed by Molina ad Albir (2002) and supporting theory from Brown & JimMiller (1990) about constituent structure to compare the structure of source language and target language.Keywords: translation technique, architectural term, constituent structureABSTRAKPenelitian bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi teknik terjemahan yang digunakan oleh penerjemah untukmenerjemahkan istilah arsitektur dan juga bertujuan untuk menganalisis struktur konstituen istilaharsitektur dalam bahasa target. Data berfokus pada terjemahan istilah arsitektur yang ditemukan dalambuku dwibahasa kompilasi desain interior berjudul Desain Interior Modern. Pada tahap awal pengamatantelah ditemukan ada beberapa struktur frasa berbeda yang digunakan dalam istilah arsitektur dari bahasasumber yang digunakan oleh penerjemah untuk membuatnya diterima dalam bahasa target. Makapenelitian ini mencoba mengidentifikasi bagaimana perbedaan struktur baik bahasa sumber maupunbahasa target untuk menggambarkan istilah arsitektural yang dapat diterima dalam penerjemahan sebagaiteknik proses penerjemahan. Selain itu teknik penerjemahan yang digunakan oleh penerjemah dianalisisuntuk mencari tahu mengapa itu dapat diterima dalam bahasa target. Metode pengumpulan data dalampenelitian ini menggunakan metode observasi langsung. Buku bilingual dari Desain Interior Moderndibaca. Kemudian, kalimat yang mewakili istilah arsitektur dipilih. Setelah data terkumpul, merekamenganalisa. Data yang dianalisis adalah hasil penelitian. Ada dua teori utama yang digunakan dalammenganalisis data; teori teknik penerjemahan dikemukakan oleh Molina ad Albir (2002) dan teori pendukung dari Brown & Jim Miller (1990) tentang struktur penyusun untuk membandingkan strukturbahasa sumber dan bahasa target.Kata kunci: teknik terjemahan, istilah arsitektur, struktur bahasa

Abstract

ABSTRAKKegiatan penelitian ini merupakan bentuk dari pengabdian kepada masyarakat. Pengabdianini dilaksanakan dalam bentuk pelatihan bahasa Inggris yang diberikan kepada anak-anak di pantiasuhan Hindu Sunya Giri Denpasar. Tujuan dari diadakannya pelatihan ini adalah untukmemberikan pelajaran tambahan (dalam hal ini bahasa Inggris general) kepada anak-anak di pantiasuhan hindu Sunya Giriri Denpasar agar mereka memiliki kompetensi sehingga bisa mandiri danmampu bersaing di era globalisasi ini. Anak-anak yang akan mengikuti pelatihan ini terdiri darianak yang berisua sebelas sampai tujuh belas tahun dan memiliki kemampuan yang berbeda.Perbedaan kemampuan yang dimiliki setiap anak membutuhkan suatu metode pembelajarantertentu dalam pencapaian belajar, oleh karena itu pelatihan bahasa Inggris ini juga akan mencobaaplikasi dari metode role play (bermain peran). Pengukuran kemampuan awal berbahasa Inggriskelompok sasaran ini dilakukan melalui pre-test sebelum pelatihan dimulai. Setelah diperoleh nilaipasti yang menjadi tolak ukur kemampuan anak-anak maka dapat ditentukan materi pelatihan yangakan diberikan. Tingkat keberhasilan pelatihan ini kemudian diukur kembali dengan test prakteklangsung.Kata kunci: pelatihan, bahasa inggris, panti asuhan, role playABSTRACTThis research activity is a form of community service. This service was carried out in the form ofEnglish language training given to children in the Hindu Sunya Giri Denpasar orphanage. Thepurpose of this training was to provide additional lessons (in this case general English) to childrenin the Hindu Sunya Giriri orphanage so that they have competence so they can be independentand able to compete in this era of globalization. Children who will take part in the training consistof children who are eleven to seventeen years old and have different abilities. The different abilitiespossessed by each child requires a particular learning method in achieving learning, thereforethis English language training will also try the application of the role play method. Themeasurement of the initial English proficiency of the target group is done through a pre-test beforethe training begins. After obtaining a definite value that becomes a benchmark for the ability ofchildren, training materials will be determined. The level of success of this training is then remeasuredwith a direct practice test.Keywords: training, English, orphanages, role play

Abstract

This community service program aims to facilitate the improvement of English skills for military personnel of Radar Unit 212, Indonesian Air Force, in Natuna Regency. This area is in close proximity to the South China Sea, which is still subject to territorial disputes among several Southeast Asian countries. As an international language, English plays a crucial role as a communication bridge for Air Force personnel. By implementing Communicative Language Teaching (CLT), a teaching method focusing on actual interaction such as conversation and discussion, the Air Force personnel can benefit from this English skills improvement program.

Abstract

This community service assesses the Tourism Awareness Community in Jatiluwih Village, Tabanan-Bali, focusing on their use of social media for digital promotion. The group utilizes Instagram and Facebook for this purpose. Challenges observed include ineffective promotional language and limited understanding of tourism marketing tools among community members. The intervention provided copywriting and SEO training, covering basics, English usage, persuasive language, and AI integration for content creation on both the village's website and social media. The approach involves observation, interviews, and evaluation. Consequently, the community has shown improvement in understanding copywriting strategies, enhancing their digital promotion efforts on their social media accounts.

Abstract

Language is the main medium for communication, and can build relationships with each other that serve to carry meaning. This study concerns to analyze figurative languages found in selected Alec Benjamin song lyrics. There are two problems that are formulated in this study, they are: (1) what are the types of figurative language found in Alec Benjamin song lyrics; (2) what are the meaning of the Figurative language found in Alec Benjamin song lyrics. In this research used two theories. The first theory proposed by Knickerbocker and Reninger (1963) which is used to identify figurative language types and the second theory of meaning is supported by Leech (1981) to analyze the meaning. The method used in gathering the data was done by the method of formal and informal. The researcher obtained the data by listening the songs, reading the scripts of lyrics, underlining, and classifying the lyrics which contains types of figurative languages. The data was analyzed descriptively using qualitative method. It was found four types of figurative language: hyperbole, personification, synecdoche, and paradox. The most widely used is hyperbole and simile, with the rest has equal numbers or rank. There is one type of meaning found in the lyrics in a connotative meaning.

Abstract

The field of Translation and Interpreting (T&I) encompasses bilingual activities in transferring messages from a source language to a target language with an assertive cognitive capacity to produce natural and equivalent meaning. This study serves as a preliminary experiment to explore the cognitive capacity development of ESL students in rendering messages within T&I. Mix-method is applied by involving 28 students taking the test of rendering the messages orally and in written. The experiment consists of three stages: a CEFR test, which reveals that the students' highest level is B1 Intermediate; a 12-session T&I course covering theory, strategies, and practice; and an evaluation phase including feedback collected through questionnaires. In general, the T&I process of rendering messages from English (EN) to Indonesian (ID) is deemed naturally acceptable, and the students are able to accomplish the task. However, there are challenges related to working memory, which result in students not achieving excellent test scores. The EN-ID group shows better performance in translating and interpreting, particularly in the higher score ranges, whereas the ID-EN group has a larger number of participants with lower scores. Additionally, delivering messages from Indonesian to English poses challenges, especially in the context of noun phrases. These challenges are primarily attributed to differences in word order, determiners and articles, prepositions, idiomatic expressions, vocabulary, as well as the participants' proficiency level and exposure to both languages.

Abstract

This study aims to dissect the fundamental person’s contention, examine the primary person’s outer struggle, and recognize how the principal character beats the contention in Elizabeth Allen’s film. The data for this study consists of the dialogue and interactions involving Cassie, a character in the film Purple Hearts. The data will be analyzed qualitatively according to the theory used. The theory utilized in this study is the hypothesis of Myers (1992) to recognize the kinds of conflict that happen in the fundamental person, Deetz and Stevenson (1986) to track down ways of managing clashes. Conflict is analyzed based on the literature theory proposed by Kenney (1996), which divides conflict into two types, namely external and internal. However, in the film, only external conflicts occur. External conflicts are emphasized because they drive the plot and highlight the main character’s struggle against outside forces, such as societal pressures, financial hardships, and relationships with other characters.

Abstract

This article aims at investigating language/s used in public signs in Taman Nasional Komodo (TNK), Labuan Bajo, Flores-NTT. It was designed as a qualitative study as the data are pictures, words, and sentences found in the public signs in TNK. The data were collected by doing an observation where every single sign found in TNK was photographed by using a Vivo y17 camera. After collecting the data, the data were analyzed by the following steps: data reduction, data display and data verification and conclusion. The result mentions that public signs in TNK divided into two types; they are monolingual and bilingual signs. The monolingual signs confirm that the public signs in TNK just use one language either Indonesian or English. However, bilingual refers to the public signs in TNK using both Indonesian and English for the same public sign. There are nine types of signs applied in TNK public signs. They are signs of place name, place manager, place description, map, history, notice, warning, appeal, and esthetic. Also, the signs have served purposes related to conveying information, representing symbols, and aiding in education.

Abstract

Kemampuan dwibahasa saat ini memang sangat menantang yang ditandai dengan tidak banyaknya mahasiswa dan alumni jurusan Sastra Inggris yang berani mengambil pekerjaan sebagai juru bahasa dan sepatutnya kemampuan ini diasah lebih dalam sebab kemampuan ini yang akan membawa para pemelajar jurusan Sastra Inggris merajut profesi menjadi seorang juru bahasa baik itu terikat dalam sebuah institusi maupun sebagai pekerja lepas. Pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk mencukupi kebutuhan serta meningkatkan kompetensi mahasiswa dan alumni Fakultas Bahasa Asing Universitas Mahasaraswati Denpasar yang juga termasuk kategori masyarakat dalam mengambil peluang berprofesi sebagai juru bahasa. Pelatihan dibagi menjadi 2 gelombang dari pertengahan bulan Maret sampai Mei (8 minggu). Pelatihan dilakukan secara intensif yang diikuti oleh 10 orang termasuk mahasiswa dan alumni dengan menggunakan teknik menyimak/mendengarkan (listening), meniru (shadowing), menguraikan kembali dalam bentuk berbeda (paraphrasing), dan yang terakhir adalah whispering atau menerjemahkan dalam waktu yang bersamaan dengan pembicara bahasa sumber. Keempat teknik ini diklaim mampu meningkatkan kemampuan seorang juru bahasa khususnya kemampuan kognitif. Pelatihan ini didukung oleh Rumah Harapan Disabilitas Graha Nawasena kota Denpasar sebagai tempat pelaksanaan serta 1orang penutur asli dari Inggris sebagai narasumber. Selama kurang lebih 2 bulan kegiatan pelatihan juru bahasa ini dilakukan guna mencari regenerasi para juru bahasa pemula yang selanjutnya akan mandiri mendapatkan jam terbang sendiri sampai ke tahap juru bahasa professional. Peserta yang mengikuti pelatihan ini pun mendapatkan manfaat dari setiap sesi latihan serta merasa terbantu oleh penggunaan teknik-teknik yang sudah dipraktekan bersama.
