Abstract

The Realistic Mathematics Education approach emphasizes understanding concepts through the context of everyday life, while conventional methods can provide a solid foundation in mathematical concepts. Therefore, teachers use conventional and realistic methods in teaching mathematics to improve student learning outcomes. Comparative analysis is the research method used in this study. The purpose of the Comparative Study between Realistic Mathematics Learning and Conventional Methods in Improving Students' Understanding of Mathematics Concepts is to compare how well the two approaches, realistic mathematics learning and conventional methods, in improving students' understanding of mathematics concepts. This research aims to find out whether the conventional approach or the Realistic Mathematics learning method is more effective in helping students understand mathematical concepts. It is expected that the information or data obtained from this research can provide an overview of learning strategies that are more effective in improving students' understanding of mathematical concepts. The final result of this research is expected to provide important data related to learning strategies that are more feasible to help students in understanding numerical ideas. The results of this study will have a significant impact on the development of more efficient methods for teaching mathematics in the classroom.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the influence of scientific-based numeracy literacy teaching materials on students' motivation and higher order thinking abilities. This research is a quantitative research using a quasi-experiment method with a nonequivalent control group design. Sampling used purposive sampling technique. The instruments used were motivational questionnaire sheets and higher order thinking ability tests. The paired sample t-test was used to analyze the data. The findings indicate a significant difference in the average posttest scores between the experimental group and the control group, with a significance value of 0.000<0.005 and a mean difference of 18.06 (66.00 - 47.94) between the two groups. Additionally, the confidence interval for the difference ranged from -36.959 to -30.354. That there is a significant (real) difference between the average motivation score and higher order thinking abilities of students in the experimental class and the control class using of scientific-based numeracy literacy teaching materials. So with these results it can be concluded that the scientific-based numeracy literacy teaching materials has an effect on students' motivation and higher order thinking abilities.

Abstract

This research aims to develop a mathematics learning device oriented toward the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach based on Ethnomathematics to improve students’ mathematical problem-solving skills at MTs Negeri 3 Tapanuli Selatan. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) design using the 4-D model, which consists of four stages: defining, designing, developing, and disseminating. The research subjects were 36 seventh-grade students in the second semester of the 2022/2023 academic year. The instruments used included expert validation sheets, teacher and student practicality questionnaires, classroom observation sheets, and mathematical problem-solving tests. The results revealed that the developed learning device achieved an average expert validation score of 4.25 in the very valid category in terms of content, language, and presentation. The practicality test showed that the teacher’s response reached 89% and the students’ response reached 91%, categorized as very practical, indicating that the device was easy to use and engaging for students. The effectiveness test showed an average N-Gain score of 0.52 (moderate category) with 86.11% of students achieving mastery learning, signifying that the learning device was effective in enhancing students’ mathematical problem-solving abilities. The integration of the realistic mathematics approach with local cultural elements (ethnomathematics) successfully created meaningful and contextual learning experiences while fostering students’ appreciation for their cultural heritage. Therefore, the developed learning device is feasible to be implemented as an innovative mathematics learning medium based on cultural contexts in junior high schools and madrasah.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui validitas, efektivitas dan kepraktisan modul ajar berbasis pemecahan masalah melalui penerapan differentiated learning pada kelas X MAN Insan Cendekia Tapanuli Selatan serta peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika siswa dengan menggunakan modul. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian pengembangan dengan menggunakan modifikasi antara Model pengembangan 4-D. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan: 1) Validitas modul ajar berbasis pemecahan masalah melalui penerapan differentiated learning pada kelas X MAN Insan Cendekia Tapanuli Selatan adalah sangat valid; 2) modul ajar berbasis pemecahan masalah melalui penerapan differentiated learning pada kelas X MAN Insan Cendekia Tapanuli Selatan efektif digunakan. Hal ini terlihat dari hasil tes kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika siswa setelah pembelajaran dengan menggunakan modul ini tuntas karena 80% dari subjek uji coba memenuhi kriteria ketercapaian tujuan pembelajaran dan adanya aktivitas yang positif dari siswa; 3) Kepraktisan modul ajar berbasis pemecahan masalah melalui penerapan differentiated learning pada kelas X MAN Insan Cendekia Tapanuli Selatan adalah praktis digunakan. Hal ini diperoleh dari hasil analisis data respons siswa terhadap modul yakni siswa memberikan respons yang positif. dan 4) Peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika siswa kelas X MAN Insan Cendekia Tapanuli Selatan menggunakan modul modul ajar berbasis pemecahan masalah melalui penerapan differentiated learning berada pada kriteria sedang. Penelitian ini juga menjadi referensi bagi pengembangan modul pembelajaran serupa di jenjang dan konteks pendidikan lainnya.

Abstract

The team from the Tadris Mathematics Study Program, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training UIN Syekh Ali Hasan Ahmad Addary Padangsidimpuan organized community service in the form of training on the use of wordwall applications. This training aims to create interactive learning media. This activity was held at a school that had collaborated with the organizers. This service was held with the aim of providing guidance on the use of the Wordwall application in compiling interactive learning media. This is expected to be a solution to create interesting learning by combining theory and practice.In this activity, participants were given theoretical information about Wordwall through slide presentations from presenters, which were then followed by direct practice by the participants. The result of this training is an increase in teachers' understanding of the latest innovations in the use of interactive learning media. After the training, teachers can apply Wordwall to create teaching materials, learning media, and evaluation tools with their own creativity. Previously, the majority of teachers were not familiar with the theory and practice of using Wordwall, but after training, almost all teachers who participated in this activity were able to understand the theory and apply Wordwall in their learning. The positive impact of this service activity is that teachers can design various educational games with wordwalls according to the material taught, the establishment of cooperation between the service team and the SD Negeri 200118 Padangsidimpuan.

Abstract

The objectives of this research are (1) To find out the self-development of teachers in MAN IC Tapanuli Selatan and MAN IC Padang Pariaman; (2) To find out the scientific publications of teachers at MAN IC Tapanuli Selatan and MAN IC Padang Pariaman; (3) To find out the innovative work of teachers at MAN IC Tapanuli Selatan and MAN IC Padang Pariaman. (4) To find out the problems faced by teachers at MAN IC Tapanuli Selatan and MAN IC Padang Pariaman in participating in Sustainable Professional Development (PKB). This study uses a descriptive method, the data collection method is observation, documentation and interview, and the validity of the data in this study uses the extension of the research time, diligence of observation and triangulation by means of source triangulation. Data is analyzed by Data reduction which means summarizing, Presentation of data after data is reduced, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study show that (1) The self-development of teachers at MAN IC Tapanuli Selatan and MAN IC Padang Pariaman is carried out as functional diktat activities and Teacher Working Groups (KKG). (2) Scientific Publications of MAN IC Tapanuli Selatan and MAN IC Padang Pariaman Teachers, consisting of three activities, namely, achievements in scientific forums, scientific publications in the form of research results or scientific ideas in the field of formal education and publication of textbooks, enrichment books or teacher guidelines. Most teachers have already implemented it. (2) The Innovative Work of MAN IC Tapanuli Selatan and MAN IC Padang Pariaman Teachers has run smoothly and optimally. Innovative work carried out by teachers makes learning media in the classroom. (3) Problems that occur in MAN IC Tapanuli Selatan and MAN IC Padang Pariaman in participating in Teacher Sustainable Professional Development (PKB), which is related to learning where teachers still have minimal participation of a small number of teachers in participating in activities and in making journals by teachers.

Abstract

This research was conducted in Grade VI at SD 200223 Sibulan-bulan Padangsidimpuan during the academic year 2023/2024, focusing on the topic of fractions. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of the Realistic Mathematics Approach on students' understanding of concepts in Grade VI at SD 200223 Sibulan-bulan. The study utilized a Post-Test-Only Control Group design and was of quasi-experimental nature. It involved an experimental group receiving the Realistic Mathematics Education Approach treatment and a control group not receiving such treatment. Both groups were selected randomly. The research findings indicate that students' understanding of mathematical concepts was better when using the Realistic Mathematics Approach compared to conventional learning methods. Based on the hypothesis testing results, it was found that t-count > t-table (2.23 > 1.98) and the Sig. value = 0.018, indicating that there is a positive effect of the Realistic Mathematics Education Approach (RME) on students' conceptual understanding. Based on the above findings, it is recommended that the learning process in schools use the Realistic Mathematics Education Approach, as it can improve students' conceptual understanding and mathematical abilities.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a statistical module for the students of Islamic colleges and universities in South Tapanuli. Research and Development (RD) with Instructional Development Institute (IDI) model was implemented. This research consists of three stages, namely, the front-end analysis stage, the prototype stage, and the assessment stage. The results of the study showed that the statistical module that was designed was valid including content validity and construct. The result also showed the use of statistical modules in the learning process does not experience significant obstacles, in the practical sense of their use according to the assessments of observers and students and lecturers. It indicated that the statistical module has been effective which is shown from the results of observations on the implementation of the learning process, the results of interviews with lecturers and students, as well as higher student learning outcomes using modules in learning.
