Abstract

Preoperative anxiety is a common problem that impacts surgical outcomes and patient well-being. Non-pharmacological interventions offer a safe alternative to managing anxiety without the side effects of medication. This scoping review aims to map the evidence related to non-pharmacological interventions in reducing patient anxiety in the operating room. Following the Arksey and O’Malley framework and the JBI guidelines, a search was conducted in databases such as PubMed and Scopus until August 2025, with inclusion criteria of primary and secondary studies on non-pharmacological interventions in preoperative patients. Data were extracted for variables such as intervention type, population, and effectiveness, and analyzed narratively and thematically. Of the 15 studies, interventions such as music therapy, virtual reality, clown therapy, aromatherapy, and pre-operative education were effective in reducing anxiety by 15-30% in children and adults, with additional benefits on patient satisfaction and physiological stability. Interactive interventions were more effective in children, while sensory therapy was superior in adults. Non-pharmacological interventions are a promising strategy for pre-operative anxiety management, with the need for further research in elderly and emergency surgery populations to strengthen clinical applications.

Abstract

Background: Stroke patients must comply with medication and undergo rehabilitation to prevent recurrent attacks. Self-efficacy plays a significant role in patient adherence to and compliance with these programs. Post-stroke patients have varying functional statuses, which may result in differences in their levels of self-efficacy in carrying out these programs. Purpose: To identify the relationship between patients' self-efficacy in undergoing rehabilitation and treatment. Method: A correlational descriptive study using accidental sampling conducted on 69 post-stroke patients. Data were collected using the Stroke Self-Efficacy Questionnaire (SSEQ), the Self-Efficacy for Appropriate Medication use Scale (SEAMS), and the Barthel Index. Data analysis was performed using Spearman's analysis. Results: Most respondents (40.6%) had high self-efficacy in rehabilitation, 62.3% had high self-efficacy in medication, and 56.5% had mild dependence. There was a significant relationship between self-efficacy in carrying out rehabilitation and the functional status of patients (p = 0.000), and there was a significant relationship between self-efficacy in carrying out medication and the functional status of patients (p = 0.000). Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between self-efficacy in undergoing rehabilitation and treatment and the functional status of patients. Health workers, especially nurses, must motivate patients to undergo treatment and rehabilitation, particularly those with low functional status. Abstract

Background: The increasing incidence of cancer means that more people are living with cancer, which increases the responsibility of informal caregivers. Most caregivers are not prepared to fulfil their duties when taking on responsibility for the treatment and care of patients, which can become a burden on caregivers and affect the care of cancer patients. Purpose: To conduct a literature review that assesses the effects of e-health interventions on the burden of informal caregivers. Method: The research method was a literature review using a scoping review approach. The scoping review used inclusion criteria for articles published between 2020 and 2025, using a randomized control trial and experimental study design, and published in English. Article selection used the PRISMA Flow Diagram. The databases used were PubMed and EBSCO. Proquest and engine search Google Scholar. Results: The results of this literature search found 16,690 articles on e-health. However, only 18 articles met the inclusion criteria. Ten articles were complete but did not focus on the benefits of e-health on caregiver burden. Thus, only five articles met the inclusion criteria. Four e-health interventions were found to have an effect on reducing caregiver burden, such as stress, in family caregivers. Conclusion: These findings indicate that e-health interventions have beneficial effects for informal caregivers of cancer patients in long-term care. Abstract

Cholelithiasis occurs due to the formation of stones in the gallbladder that block the flow of bile, causing right upper abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and fever. This case study adds new data that warm compress therapy is effective in significantly reducing pain levels in cholelithiasis patients with complications of acute kidney injury and liver insufficiency aged 59 years. The method used in this study was the Numerical Pain Rating Scale (NPRS) to assess the level of pain, and observation, interview, physical examination, and hospital medical records were used. The NPRS rating scale is a scale of 0 to 10. The number 0 means no pain while the number 10 indicates maximum pain. The application of warm compress therapy was carried out by placing a cloth soaked in 38°C water on the patient's right upper abdominal area, with a duration of implementation of around 15 to 20 minutes for 4 days. The results showed a significant decrease in pain levels after warm compress therapy. Before the intervention, the pain felt was 7/10, and after the intervention, the pain decreased by 4/10 on the fourth day of the intervention. The role of nurses in non-pharmacological pain management, particularly warm compress therapy, includes roles as nursing care providers, educators, and patient safety advocates. However, this study has limitations in the use of cloth as a compressed medium because the cloth is not able to maintain a stable hot temperature during the intervention. As a result, the temperature received by the patient's body may differ from the initial temperature of the compress. Thus, it is recommended that further researchers use special bags, such as hot water bags, for warm compress therapy so that the hot temperature can be maintained more stably and effectively.
