Abstract

The idea of at least 30% representation of women in nominations for DPR and DPRD members is a form of state's effort to provide affirmative action for women in the political sphere. The state's efforts to provide affirmative action for women in the political sphere aim to strengthen women's representation in the legislature. This affirmative action increased women's representation in the legislative from period to period. Even in the 2019-2024 period, the percentage of women in the DPR was 20% or 118 seats out of the total number of members, which is the first time that women's representation in the DPR has reached this figure. However, the increase in women's representation in the DPR is not in line with their contribution in the field of legislation. Descriptive qualitative research methods with library study data collection techniques were used to provide a comprehensive picture of the situation in accordance with the facts at the time the research was conducted, with an emphasis on the challenges of affirmative action policies. This article aims to analyze the challenges of the government's affirmative action policy in the form of a minimum quota for women in nominations for DPR members of at least 30% as an effort to strengthen women's representation in the legislature. The results found relate to the challenges of affirmative action that have not maximized the role of women in legislative institutions: women's capacity that has not been maximized, patriarchal culture, and women's representation as a formality.

Abstract

The rapid stream of globalization is giving a wider range of international public relations spheres. As the effects of globalization are the birth of local and international NGOs its activism is shaped from various perspectives. One of the INGOs is Sea Shepherd run based on the idea of environmentalism, especially focused on marine life protection but often accused of being violent and its movement labeled as eco-terrorism. We are using the case of Operation Milagro (2015-2018) between Sea Shepherd and the Mexican government that cooperated. This journal aims to analyze the relationship between two actors including the mechanism of cooperation in Operation Milagro to prevent the extinction of Vaquita Porpoise and the other endangered species in the Cortez Sea, Gulf of California. This article uses relative deprivation theory and transnationalism concepts to gain a new understanding of the analyzed data. We argue that the cooperation of both actors in Operation Milagro is creating a new stage of understanding between both sides through its deprivation of the Sea Shepherd and the cooperation between Mexico and Sea Shepherd. From the point of view of Sea Shepherd, it became a useful tool to reconstruct a new identity as not only an altruistic NGO but also a cooperative nonstate actor. On the other hand, Mexico provided the navy and federal police to facilitate the Sea Shepherd to reach its goal. The author uses some methods such as literature study by collecting data and facts from books, online sites, online journals, and online news. This article also provides some critiques of a problem that came from the effect of cooperation between two actors.

Abstract

The migrant crisis that occurred back in 2015 has sparked various political turbulence in European countries. One of the highest “first-time application” countries is Hungary. But as the number of asylum seekers grows, the Hungarian government considered itself overburdened and thus decided to take action to limit the inflow number of asylum-seekers. This situation gives Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and his Fidesz Party a way to keep campaigning for anti-immigrant policy which he believes will gain massive support. This journal uses a mixed-research method to find out the relation between the winning Fidesz Party with the number of incoming asylum seekers in Hungary. The analysis will be based on a regression process to determine the correlation between the votes that caused the Fidesz Party to win the last five general elections of Hungary with the quantity of asylum seekers in Hungary during the election year and supported by data observed from literature research.

Abstract

Singapore is a country that implements a foreign direct investment policy to advance its economy. The implementation of those policies is classified as a two-pronged sword because it also ensures the privacy and security of corrupt money investments from other countries. Because of this, many Indonesian citizens are involved in money laundering through investments in Singapore. There were cases of money laundering with the value reaching at least Rp 9,427 trillion Indonesian money in Singapore in 2016 alone. The question is why Singapore tried to mute and undermine Indonesian tax amnesty? The purpose of this paper is to find the causes of the problem. Theory and the concept that will be used by the writer are Foreign Direct Investment Theory by David K. Eitemen and Money Laundering Concept itself. This paper uses an explanative qualitative method, and a literature study to obtain the data to strengthen this paper. Based on the case and the problem, the author concluded that the economy of Singapore will be threatened by the Indonesian Tax Amnesty policy, although not majorly, considering that even though they are a country of investment, they have a strong economy, to begin with.

Abstract

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are designed to tackle urgent global challenges. This study serves as an overview of the significance and interconnectedness of these three SDGs in fostering a sustainable future for our planet at a local level. Pro Iklim or Pro Climate is a program created by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLKH) in 2011 which applies the concept of community empowerment or Community Based Development. The existence of Kampung Proklim (Program Kampung Iklim) program on the regency level in Indonesia can be a specific facet of the manifestation of SDGs, especially SDGs 13, 15, and 17. This article will discuss collaborative governance in managing climate action and the interlinkages between these SDGs and the Kampung Proklim program in Bodeyan Hamlet, Sukoharjo regency. Analysis will emphasize how the combined efforts can amplify the positive impact on global sustainability, even on the micro-local level. Qualitative descriptive methods will be used in this study, supported by on-site interview and library research. The study reveals that the 'Smart Proklim' program at Kampung Proklim Bodeyan implements an organic waste management program that is integrated with a smart garden. It is apparent that climate action and biodiversity preservation can be obtained through collaborative action among stakeholders. It also serves as an evidence where SDG 17 is the key to achieve SDG 13 to 15. This result shows the existence of collaborative governance, and at the same time answers three SDGs objectives. This remarks the uniqueness of this study.

Abstract

Urban and rural areas worldwide face growing challenges from rapid population growth, climate change, and resource constraints. Governments are responding by adopting smart city and smart village initiatives that use technology to promote sustainable development. Yet, academic research on these topics differs markedly across countries due to distinct policy priorities, development needs, and research contexts. This study performs a comparative bibliometric analysis of smart city and smart village publications in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Japan, using Scopus-indexed data processed with VOSviewer. Results show Indonesia has effectively integrated both domains, with research evolving from a technology focus toward collaborative governance and sustainability. Japan, meanwhile, emphasizes systematic, infrastructure-driven smart city development, but its smart village studies remain disconnected from key rural issues like depopulation and aging populations. In Malaysia, smart village research predominantly centers on biomedical and public health themes rather than technology-based rural advancement, revealing a clear research gap. These findings can inform policymakers on research prioritization, guide funding toward underrepresented areas, and aid in creating balanced measurement frameworks that align global standards with local realities. Ultimately, although smart development concepts are global, their academic exploration and practical application must be adapted to each country’s unique context.

Abstract

The influence of China has weakened Taiwan's position in global diplomacy. China emphasizes that countries that establish diplomatic relations with Taiwan will lose relations with China. In response, Taiwan introduced the New Southbound Policy (NSP) as a hedging strategy to counteract diplomatic isolation through cooperation. This policy seeks to strengthen economic, cultural, and technological relations with countries in South and Southeast Asia, including Indonesia. Taiwan and Indonesia have enhanced trade relations through programs promoting people-to-people connectivity involving individuals and civil society networks. A key aspect of this cooperation is the employment of Indonesian migrant workers in Taiwan, which relates to the New Economics of Labor Migration. NELM is a theory that puts emphasis on the impact of migrant labor and remittances on the trade balance of a country. This paper will analyze the effect of the existence of Indonesian Migrant Workers on remittances and the trade balance of Taiwan in the ensuing NSP. Quantitative approach used by utilizing simple linear regression to sharpen the result based on the data that were identified using the official government websites, datasets, journal articles, and others. Results indicate that there are impacts caused by the existence of Indonesian workers on Taiwan’s trade balance by 55.5% and remittances 32.7%, respectively. Although other reasons, including Indonesian visitors, also contribute to the process. NSP was launched to balance geopolitical tensions and link trade, technology, education, labor, and cultural exchange.
