Abstract

Oryzias sp. from Tunda Island, Indonesia has the potential as a model organism in laboratories and also ornamental fish. Basic information regarding maintenance during adaptation post-transportation from its habitat in nature, embryo incubation and maintenance of larvae is needed as a basis for breeding activities. The results showed that Oryzias sp. from Tunda Island can adapt, spawning and produce a total 262 eggs (diameter 0.88-1.02 mm) in a controlled environment. Eggs from spawning in nature begin to hatch on the 11th incubation day, the hatching peak occurs on the 13th day with a hatching process 4-9 days at 25-27oC. The hatching rate ranges from 57.14-100% and the survival of 5 days old lavae after hatching is 72.72-100.00%. The transportation technique in this study has not been able to suppress fish mortality during post-transportation rearing.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Ricefish Oryzias woworae is a species of ricefish endemic in the waters of Muna Island, Southeast Sulawesi. The economic potential of O. woworae as an ornamental fish has not been supported by the availability of information on its cultivation. One important aspect of the success of fish farming is knowledge of its reproduction. Spawning behavior information is very important to know. This study aims to examine the spawning behavior of rice fish O. woworae and the number of eggs per hour with different sex ratios of the broodstock. The research method uses an experimental design of parent sex ratio treatment female (♀) and male (♂) fish, namely 1♂ : 2♀ , 1♂ : 3♀, and 1♂ : 4♀. Prior to the study, the broodstock were acclimatized for seven days by feeding Artemia polar red. Observation of spawning behavior was carried out for five days. Observations were made every hour on the day of spawning. The results showed that O. woworae only spawned during the day between 06:00 and 16:00, with dominant synchronization behavior occurring in the morning which began to occur simultaneously on the third spawning day. Management that can be done regarding the phenomenon of brood fish-eating eggs is to put more spawning substrates for use by broodstock broodfish O. woworae to hide the eggs, so they are not eaten by other females during mass spawning. Another management method is to harvest eggs at the day and afternoon.

Abstract

Spirulina platensis is a feed additive that can improve the reproductive performance of fish. It has never been given to the endemic fish Oryzias woworae which can lay eggs every day. Therefore, a study was conducted that aims to examine spawning activities related to egg-laying behavior, number of eggs, and egg diameter of O. woworae. The study used a sex ratio of 1♂:1♀ in spawning. The test feeds were commercial feed (Feng Li 1) or 0% without spirulina (treatment A), the addition of spirulina 5% (treatment B), 10% (treatment C), and 20% (treatment D). Observations were made every hour for 6 days. The spawning temperature was controlled at a value of 26.6±0.2°C. The results showed differences in the behavior of O. woworae in releasing eggs on spawning days. Giving spirulina causes the behavior of releasing eggs to occur at intervals of 1-3 hours, while without spirulina, it only occurs 1 hour on spawning days. The highest number of eggs was produced by giving spirulina 20% with a diameter range of 1.35-1.37 mm. The presence of a small egg diameter in the 20% spirulina treatment indicated that an increase in the number of eggs affected the ovaries capacity, so the diameter decreased. However, the average diameter of 20% of spirulina eggs was still the same as without spirulina administration. The stable temperature at 26.6±0.2°C caused the spawning activity of O. woworae to only occur in the morning between 07:00-09:00.

Abstract

Information on the biometric characteristics, egg morphology, and habitat of O. javanicus are very important for its use as model fish in the laboratory, ornamental fish, and environmental bioindicators. Therefore, research is needed to analyze the biometric character, egg morphology, and habitat of ricefish O. javanicus in the brackish water pond of Banten Bay. This research was conducted non-eperimentally by observing biometric characters to examine meristic, morphometric, and sex dimorphism characteristics. Observations of egg morphology were macroscopic and microscopic characteristics. Habitat characteristics were observed by measuring water quality in situ. The results showed that O. javanicus from Linduk had meristic characteristics D.6–7; A.21–22; P.9-10; V.5–6 and sex dimorphism in the shape and size of the dorsal and anal fins. Blue metallic color pattern on the head and yellow color on the fins are potentially ornamental fish. O. javanicus eggs have a diameter of 1.08 ± 0.02 mm, are equipped with attaching filaments and non-attaching. The non-attaching filaments are 0.14 ± 0.03 mm in length. The percentage of yolk area was 73.7 ± 4.85%, and the oil droplet area was 8.3 ± 0.54% of O. javanicus at the gastrula stage with egg yolk volume 0.349 ± 0.048 mm3. Water quality in this study is a reference for rearing O. javanicus in the laboratory.

Abstract

Coral rehabilitation on Tunda Island is carried out to support marine tourism, which is the mainstay of the community tourism sector. Because of this, the Student Creativity Program (PKM) is being carried out, namely community service (PM) related to fishdom-based coral transplants. This activity is the creation of artificial coral reefs that aim to restore underwater ecosystems, fish populations and diversity. The program's success starts from selecting locations and community participation through community knowledge. Based on this, the activity objectives were to obtain information on community knowledge about coral and marine ecotourism, recommendations for implementing coral transplants, and the location of PKM-PM on Tunda Island. The stages of the activity are planning, data collection in the community, and data analysis. Coordination is carried out with the local government and tourism awareness groups (Pokdarwis). The data was collected through non-formal interviews with community representatives in 2 RW 6 RT in Wargasara Village, Tunda Island. The interviews showed that more than 50% of the people of Tunda Island had good knowledge about coral reefs and their functions, coral transplants, the condition of coral reefs, fish locations and ecotourism on Tunda Island. More than 60% of the people of Tunda Island do not know the structure of the fishdom and have never attended socialization and training on coral transplantation. Therefore, the community suggests conducting coral transplantation training and fishdom construction on Tunda Island is necessary. The community suggested that coral transplants could be carried out in East Tanjungan and fishdom placement on the North Beach to support underwater tourism on Tunda Island. Community involvement, especially Pokdarwis, can guarantee the sustainability of PKM-PM activities on Tunda Island through coral conservation education-based tours.
