Abstract

The financial sector is referred to as one of the factors influencing the monetary crisis. This study examined the relationship between the banking development score in the dual banking system model and economic growth in Indonesia. This study used a quantitative method, using the VECM approach and the Granger Causality model. The findings showed that Conventional Banking Credit Growth, Sharia Banking Financing Growth, PMTB, LDR and FDR, and ROA of conventional and Sharia banks had a positive effect on economic growth in Indonesia. The inflation variables, NPF, and NPL had a negative effect on economic growth in Indonesia. This finding provided us with an understanding that the existence of Sharia banking could drive economic growth in Indonesia. In conventional banks, in the long term, there was a long-term relationship between the independent variables and the dependent variables. This study provided new insights into the influence of the banking sector on economic growth in Indonesia, highlighting the importance of synergy between conventional and Islamic banking in creating diverse financial instruments and enhancing access to banking services, especially in areas with limited financial access.

Abstract

The Bornean Black Orchid is a rare and unique plant that grows exclusively in Kalimantan. However, no scientist or practitioner has yet attempted to explore its potential as a symbol of identity for organizations, social institutions, or government entities. This research aims to uncover the potential of the Bornean Black Orchid as an inspiration for the development of Islamic higher education with global benefits. The study employs a qualitative method with a philosophical approach, examining the existence of the Bornean Black Orchid and its relevance to a model for developing educational materials in higher education. Data were collected through direct observation at Selimbau Orchid Park and in-depth interviews with managers and the local community. The symbols derived from the orchid are interpreted philosophically to inform a higher education development model that integrates Islamic principles with Bornean culture. Contributions from experts and practitioners were gathered through a Focus Group Discussion (FGD). The research findings are as follows: 1) The Bornean Black Orchid is not only rare and unique but also embodies the original identity of the people of Kalimantan, reflecting superior characteristics; 2) The patterns of the Bornean Black Orchid can serve as a model for developing educational materials in higher education; 3) The characteristics of the Bornean Black Orchid can inspire the establishment of an Islamic university that is both exceptional and globally impactful.

Abstract

This causal correlational study aims to find out the effect of factors of digital technology on guidance and counseling teachers’ usage of guidance and counseling media. It involved eighty-five guidance and counseling teachers in seven regions, recruited using a convenience sampling technique. Data were garnered using the Attitude scale for digital technology developed by Emine [1], which has been considered valid and highly reliable (1.000). Data were analyzed using a linear regression test and path analysis using SPSS. The effect size of these factors varied, with the highest score observed in “technology for me” (75.1%), followed by interest in technology (70.3%), technological use (63.9%), competence (59.6%), social network (54.2%), conscious use (53.7%), recreational use (43.2%), and negative aspects (25.2%). These factors exhibited significant correlations with and influenced the usage of guidance and counseling media among guidance and counseling teachers in this study. Consequently, it is necessary to implement interventions aimed at enhancing the utilization of digital technology for guidance and counseling services.

Abstract

The existence and traces of involvement of dayah ulama in the power dimension have placed them as religious leaders and political actors. Resulting in vertical mobility in policy making. The research subjects were dayah ulama and religious leaders in Aceh. This study aimed to understand the dimensions of the political power of Acehnese ulama working at the level, space, and form. This research used qualitative methods based on interview data, questionnaires, and literature studies. The results showed that the ulama dayah had a lot of capital and power to build power. These dimensions could be classified as follows: 1) the level dimension in the power structure of ulama was very central and able to influence local and even national political constellations; 2) with personal qualities and public belief in the Keuramat (sacred) and temeureuka (damned) owned by the ulama, indicating the legitimacy of power in the form of “visible and invisible power” in the Aceh ulama; 3) through dayah institutions, networks of religious organizations and the Ulema Consultative Assembly had provided ample space for Aceh ulama to build their identity and power as holders of religious and social authority in the public sphere.

Abstract

The implementation of the Sabang Free-Trade Zone (FTZ) has implications for the increasing distribution of illegal cigarettes in the mainland areas of Aceh. It exacerbates state financial losses, community health problems, and the workload on customs to conduct control and supervision. This qualitative study aims to explore how the Free-Trade Zone in Sabang was managed as an instrument for political concession in the Aceh conflict and its quota decision mechanism on illegal cigarettes. Using a grounded qualitative research design, we conducted 12 in-depth interviews with key stakeholders. Four important findings are reflected in this study. First, the management of the Sabang-Free Trade Zone is highly influenced by political aspects and a lack of managerial competence. Second, there is a dilemmatic perspective of the conflicting parties regarding the Sabang FTZ. Third, the quota mechanism related to the distribution of imported cigarettes is not regulated and merely relies on importers’ requests. Lastly, the control and supervision system at the Sabang FTZ is weak. These findings are expected to serve as the foundation for policy recommendations and lessons on the illegal cigarette trade in Indonesia and other post-conflict countries, as well as free trade zones in neighbouring countries like Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, and the Philippines.

Abstract

The custom of joint property in marriage exemplifies the Fiqh reform during the Sultanate of Aceh Darussalam. Some authors link this custom to the issue of women’s equality that strengthened in the 1970s. However, it raises questions about the paradigm that underlies this custom: Did the Acehnese ulema adhere to the same paradigm as modern thinkers? The authors hypothesize that the paradigm underlies this custom is moderate because it moderates between women’s property ownership dimension and the dimension of the family’s living needs. The primary data for this study are legal materials in the form of law books, regulations, and constitutions of Aceh Darussalam Sultanate. Therefore, the authors conducted normative legal research with a historical approach. The authors used Gadamer’s dialogical hermeneutics to moderate the subject and object as a dialogue partner. This study found that Acehnese ulema, who served as chairman of the Supreme Court (Qāḍi Mālik al-’Ādil), was moderate in Aqida, Sharia, and Siyasa, so the moderate paradigm influenced the law system in The Sultanate of Aceh Darussalam. It resulted in the fiqh reform, which means compatibility between the opinions of the ulemas and the needs of the people. It concluded that the fiqh reform carried out by the Acehnese ulema was moderation.

Abstract

This study investigated the influence of identity politics on Indonesia’s electoral dynamics during the 2014 and 2019 elections and evaluates the role of the National Police Security Intelligence Agency in addressing these challenges. Amidst the backdrop of low political literacy and the pervasive influence of social media, religious and ethnic tensions were notably manipulated for electoral gain. The research employed qualitative methods, including interviews, observations, and document analysis, primarily conducted in Jakarta. It revealed that the National Police adopted a "cooling system" intelligence strategy to effectively mitigate conflicts arising from identity politics while also considering the impact of global political trends on local scenarios. This study contributes to the development of an operational intelligence policing model, offering strategic insights for managing identity-based conflicts in democratic elections. This research not only enriches the academic discourse on electoral security and democracy but also provides actionable insights for policymakers and law enforcement agencies aiming to uphold democratic integrity amidst challenging political climates.

Abstract

This study examined the phenomenon of socio-religious interaction between the Hindu and Islamic communities of Wetu Telu in Taman Kemaliq Pura Lingsar, Lombok. Using a qualitative approach, this study aimed to understand how Taman Kemaliq becomes an acculturation space that facilitates and reflects interfaith harmony. The research uncovered shared histories and religious practices that affirmed communal identity and religious tolerance through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and document analysis. The results showed that Taman Kemaliq is a place for religious rituals and a symbol of harmony and collective identity. Simultaneous religious practices, such as rarak kembang waru ceremonies for Muslims and odalan ceremonies for Hindus, provide a platform for both communities to express their own beliefs and traditions while strengthening social relations between communities. This research found that Taman Kemaliq was a sacred place that united differences through ritual practices and strengthened tolerance and harmonious interaction between religious communities in daily life. The study offered new perspectives on religious and cultural practices as tools of inclusive social development and their potential to inspire interfaith harmony. These findings are important for anthropological, theological, and cultural studies, and they show that Taman Kemaliq can be a real example of multicultural societies managing diversity and creating harmony.

Abstract

This research focuses on women's empowerment in rural communities, specifically in the context of transformational leadership applied by Dwi Martuti Rahayu in KWT Pawon Gendis, a farm women's group in Salakmalang Village. The issue raised is how transformational leadership can be adapted and applied in a more local social context, with the aim of exploring the dimensions of transformational leadership that are effective in empowering women in the village. This research used a qualitative approach with a case study method, with data collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation analysis. This research showed that Dwi Martuti Rahayu successfully applied four main dimensions of transformational leadership-Idealized Influence, Inspirational Motivation, Individualized Consideration, and Intellectual Stimulation, which were instrumental in increasing women's capacity and participation in social and economic activities, visualised in the dynamics of her activities. The discussion shows that while transformational leadership theory is generally applied in the context of formal organizations, its application in rural communities has proven effective, with the important caveat that it must be tailored to local needs and challenges. The research make a significant contribution to the development of transformational leadership-based empowerment models in rural contexts and potentially pave the way for further research in this area.

Abstract

In recent years, Indonesian universities have transitioned to legal entity state universities (PTN-BH). This transition significantly impacts employee performance, requiring adjustments in organizational management, particularly in leadership, motivation, and remuneration. This study investigated how leadership style, motivation, and employee compensation influence civil servant performance and, in turn, the performance of PTN-BH universities in Sumatra. The research focused on Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), Universitas Andalas (UNAND), Universitas Negeri Padang (UNP), and Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK), with a population of 4,382 teaching staff members who have at least five years of service. A sample of 367 individuals was selected using the Slovin formula. Data analysis was conducted using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with SPSS-AMOS-22 software. Key findings showed that leadership style, motivation, and remuneration directly impact both employee and organizational performance. Specifically, leadership style affected both employee and organizational performance, as do motivation and remuneration. Employee performance served as a partial mediator between leadership style and organizational performance, as well as between motivation and organizational performance. The study highlighted how improving leadership practices, motivating employees effectively, and ensuring fair compensation contribute to the overall success of Legal Entity State Universities in Sumatra.
