Tooth extraction is one of the simple procedures commonly found in dentistry. Bleeding is a common complication following this procedure. It requires special equipment and can quickly lead to shock, syncope, and death if not treated promptly. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of Areca seed or beetle leaf ethanol extract in shortening bleeding time after tooth extraction in a Wistar rat model. Thirty-two male Wistar rats were divided into two treatment groups. The first group was treated with piper beetle leaf ethanol extract, and the second group was treated with areca seed ethanol extract. This extract was directly applied to the tooth socket. Meanwhile, the bleeding time was recorded on a filter paper every half minute using a stopwatch. All data were analyzed by T-Independent Test. The results of this study indicated a significant difference in bleeding time between the first group (betel leaf ethanol extract) and the second group (areca seed ethanol extract) with a p-value < 0.001. The mean bleeding time for the first group (143.19 ± 15.93 seconds) was longer than that for the second group (88.06 ± 23.80 seconds). Overall, it can be concluded that the areca seed ethanol extract significantly shortens bleeding time compared to piper beetle extract.

The purpose of this study is to ascertain how the problem-based learning approach affects students' critical thinking abilities in courses on conservation biology. This study design uses a non-equivalent control group in a quasi-experiment. Essay exam questions totaling 10 valid and reliable numbers served as the study's instrument. Pre-test and post-test questions were used to gather data. Descriptive statistics and inferential statistical tests, namely the covariance (ANCOVA) analysis with pretest values as variables at a significance level of 0.05%, were used to evaluate the research data. The IMB 23 SPSS program was utilized for data analysis because the data were homogeneous and regularly distributed. The findings demonstrated that, with a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, there was a significant difference in the critical thinking abilities of students taught using the conventional model and those taught using the problem-based learning model. The conclusion is that in conservation biology classes, the problem-based learning approach helps students develop their critical thinking skills.

Bromelain enzyme is one type of protease enzyme that has the ability to hydrolyze protein peptide bonds into amino acids. Bromelain enzyme can be found in pineapple (Ananas comosus) which consists of 95% cysteine protease mixture. Bromelain is often used by athletes to treat physical injuries or minor wounds. In obtaining the bromelain enzyme found in pineapple, an isolation process is required, namely by extracting it extracellularly. The method in this study does not go through the cell breakdown process so that it is easier to separate from other impurities and does not mix with other cell materials. This study aims to develop an innovative method in the production of bromelain enzyme using pineapple and honey as raw materials and to evaluate the organoleptic properties, pH, and the presence of lactic acid bacteria. This study is a descriptive study presented in the form of graphs and images. From the research that has been done, it can be concluded that the manufacture of bromelain enzyme using pineapple and honey has succeeded in producing a product that has an organoleptic value of liking (60%), pH 3 (acid) with the number of lactic acid bacteria 2.43 cells/ml.
