Abstract

Implementing interactive learning media based on virtual laboratories is efficacious in improving students' scientific literacy in science learning. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of using interactive learning media based on virtual laboratories in improving students' scientific literacy and science process skills in dynamic electricity in two schools, namely SMP Negeri 1 Kwandang and MTs Al-Khairaat Kwandang, using a guided inquiry learning model. The research design employed was a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group. Data was obtained through scientific literacy tests and observation sheets for science process skills. The study's results showed that interactive learning media based on virtual laboratories were effective in enhancing students' scientific literacy and science process skills. The results of the N-Gain analysis for scientific literacy showed an average score of 0.72, indicating a high category. Meanwhile, the results of the observations showed an increase in the achievement of science process skills at each meeting, particularly for the indicators of observing and conducting experiments, which improved to the very good category. Additionally, the results of the t-test on scientific literacy revealed a statistically significant difference (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference between the pre- and post-learning periods. Thus, interactive learning media based on virtual laboratories assisted by guided inquiry models have been proven effective in improving students' scientific literacy and science process skills

Abstract

Student learning achievement is influenced by the quality of instructional media, yet IPAS learning outcomes in several elementary schools remain low due to limited media variation. This study aimed to analyze the effects of Augmented Reality (AR)–based media, learning motivation, and their interaction on fourth-grade students’ IPAS learning outcomes. A quantitative experiment with a 2×2 factorial design was conducted involving 43 students (22 in the experimental group and 21 in the control group). Learning motivation was categorized into high and low levels using a motivation questionnaire administered prior to treatment. Pre-test and post-test instruments were used to measure learning outcomes. Data were analyzed using a two-way ANOVA after meeting normality and homogeneity assumptions, with Mann–Whitney U tests performed only as complementary pairwise comparisons. The results showed a significant main effect of AR-based media on learning outcomes (p = 0.002) and a significant main effect of learning motivation, where high-motivation students achieved higher scores than low-motivation students (p = 0.023 and p = 0.027). However, the interaction between AR media and learning motivation was not significant, indicating that AR media improved outcomes regardless of students’ motivation level. In conclusion, AR-based media effectively enhance IPAS learning outcomes, although their impact is not influenced by motivation.

Abstract

The Sun Protection Factor (SPF) indicates the level of protection that a sunscreen formulation provides against ultraviolet (UV) radiation. The heavy fraction patchouli oil obtained via molecular distillation contains 90.48% patchouli alcohol, which exhibits antioxidant activity. This study aimed to determine the SPF value of the heavy fraction patchouli oil and to evaluate the characteristics and SPF values of emulgel-based chemical sunscreens. Patchouli oil demonstrated an in vitro SPF of 37.63, classified as ultra-protection. Sunscreen formulations were prepared using the beaker method, with patchouli oil incorporated at varying concentrations, including 0% (control), 0.25% (F1), 0.5% (F2), and 1% (F3). The formulations were evaluated for physicochemical characteristics, stability, and skin safety. They exhibited an opaque white to ivory color, with a pH range of 5.2 to 6.4, viscosity between 2011 and 2924 cPs, spread ability of 4 to 6 cm, adhesion time of 5.38 to 8.28 seconds, and an oil-in-water (O/W) emulsion type. The SPF values of the sunscreen formulations ranged from 8.85 to 29.02, with F3 achieving an SPF of 29.02 and classified as ultra-protection. All formulations met the established quality standards, remained stable during storage, and caused no irritation in human volunteers. These findings indicate that the heavy fraction of patchouli oil has great potential as an active ingredient for chemical sunscreen products.

Abstract

Horticultural waste, which is often overlooked, has great potential as an alternative raw material for cost-effective and environmentally friendly culture media. This study aims to develop a cost-effective alternative bacterial culture media formulation by utilizing horticultural waste. In addition, this study also aims to analyze the nutritional components of the formulated media to ensure its effectiveness in supporting bacterial growth. The results showed that E. coli was able to grow on all types of test media. This indicates slower growth compared to the control media. The average number of E. coli colonies on BW Agar and CW Agar at concentrations of 10%, 15%, and 20% after incubation for 48 hours was >300 CFU/mL. Meanwhile, the average number of E. coli colonies on PW Agar at concentrations of 10%, 15%, and 20% was 126 × 10⁷ CFU/mL, 171 × 10⁷ CFU/mL, and 225 × 10⁷ CFU/mL, respectively. The number of S. aureus colonies was only obtained on BW Agar with concentrations of 10%, 15%, and 20%, namely 77 × 10⁷ CFU/mL on BW Agar 10%, 200 × 10⁷ CFU/mL on BW Agar 15%, and 300 × 10⁷ CFU/mL on BW Agar 20%. Based on these results, the optimal formulations representing each type of test media selected for nutrient content analysis were BW Agar 20%, CW Agar 20%, and PW Agar 20%.

Abstract

This research developed a digital authentic assessment instrument based on a project-based STEM approach to enhance scientific literacy among elementary school students. This study aimed to create an instrument that is valid, practical, and effective. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach, utilizing the ADDIE model. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and tests. The product’s practicality was assessed by media, evaluation, and material experts using closed questionnaires. Its effectiveness was measured via a pretest–posttest design conducted with small and large groups of students. A t-test and N-Gain analysis were used to evaluate the improvement of learning outcomes. The validation results were strong, with scores of 97% from the content expert, 94.5% from the assessment expert, and 95.5% from the media expert, indicating that the instrument was very valid. The practicality test also yielded a very practical score of 93% from student and teacher responses. For the effectiveness test, average scores increased from a pre-test of 58.2 to a post-test of 83.2, resulting in a medium N-Gain score of 0.59. This finding indicates that the use of the ‘MAHAGA’ digital authentic assessment is highly effective. These findings affirm ‘MAHAGA’ as a valid, practical, and effective instrument, offering a significant contribution to promoting scientific literacy in elementary education. This instrument offers a promising, innovative solution to advance science education at the elementary level, equip students with essential 21st-century skills, and support the development of a more adaptive, critical, and innovative generation.

Abstract

Public sentiment toward government budget efficiency policies has become increasingly visible through social media platforms, where citizens actively express opinions, support, and criticism. This study aims to analyze public sentiment toward budget efficiency policies using data collected from the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). A total of 2,000 public comments related to budget efficiency policies were collected through web scraping using the X API. The data were preprocessed through normalization, case folding, text cleaning, tokenization, stopword removal, and stemming. Sentiment classification was conducted using three machine learning algorithms: Naive Bayes, Support Vector Machine (SVM), and Random Forest. Model performance was evaluated using accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score. The results indicate that SVM achieved the highest accuracy, while Random Forest demonstrated superior recall in identifying positive sentiment. These findings suggest that Random Forest is particularly suitable for sentiment analysis tasks where minimizing false negatives is important, while SVM performs well in overall classification accuracy. This research contributes to the comparative evaluation of machine learning models for public sentiment analysis on policy-related issues using social media data.

Abstract

Effective knowledge management (KM) is pivotal for higher education institutions to maintain competitiveness. This study aims to formulate a targeted strategy for enhancing lecturer KM by identifying critical indicators requiring immediate intervention, based on SITOREM analysis. The research is grounded in the theory of organizational knowledge creation, hypothesizing that a focused improvement on pivotal KM processes and supporting factors will lead to a more effective and sustainable KM system. This quantitative research employed a survey method to collect data from lecturers at a higher education institution. Data were analyzed using the SITOREM method to identify strengths, weaknesses, and key improvement priorities within the KM framework, focusing on the five fundamental KM processes: acquisition, refinement, storage, dissemination, and application. The analysis revealed that knowledge evaluation is an institutional strength to be maintained. However, critical weaknesses were identified in knowledge acquisition and application processes. Supporting factors such as organizational rewards and educator development are potential levers, while challenges persist in team collaboration, leadership empathy, and information technology security and ethics. These findings align with prior research emphasizing that technological infrastructure and a collaborative culture are prerequisites for successful KM implementation, directly impacting the cycle of organizational learning. The study concludes that an optimal KM enhancement strategy requires an integrated approach, simultaneously improving critical KM processes, strengthening collaborative culture, enhancing leadership social skills, and ensuring digital ethics, thereby creating a systematic and sustainable KM system.

Abstract

This study aims to find out how effective learning is using Canva application-based learning media. This research is a research and development (R&D). Actually, there are ten stages of development, but in this study, the researcher only limited three stages in the development of Canva media, namely the planning stage, the development stage, and the trial stage. The test subjects in this study are students of Physics Education at Cenderawasih University. The data collection technique used in this study is in the form of a questionnaire or questionnaire in the form of a checklist. The data collected is in the form of quantitative data and qualitative data that is formed by words. The data analysis technique used in this study is descriptive. Based on the data analysis that has been carried out, students have responded well to the use of the Canva application. In this study, the researcher used 2 indicators in general, namely the effectiveness of learning and the learning process. The results of the analysis obtained were the percentage score for learning effectiveness of 79.46% in the good category, while for the presentation learning process obtained was 80.71 and in the good category. From the results of the analysis mentioned above, it can be said that the use of Canva-based learning media is good or effective in learning physics at Cenderawasih University

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of an IPAS e-module in improving science learning outcomes of Grade VI students at State Primary School 04 Kota Solok. A quasi-experimental non-equivalent control group pretest–posttest design was used, involving an experimental class that learned with the e-module and a control class that received conventional instruction. Data were collected using pretest and posttest scores and analyzed through prerequisite tests (normality, homogeneity, and initial equivalence), independent-samples t-test, and normalized gain (N-gain). The results showed that the posttest scores of the experimental group were significantly higher than those of the control group (p < 0.05). The experimental class achieved an N-gain of 0.68, categorized as moderate and close to the upper limit of the medium range, while the control class obtained an N-gain of 0.29, classified as low. These findings indicate that the e-module substantially improves students’ science learning outcomes and supports more effective technology-enhanced IPAS learning in primary schools.

Abstract

This study evaluates the Automated Flowchart Assessment Tool (AFAT) to overcome limitations in semantic sensitivity and layout robustness prevalent in existing tools. Through a quantitative analysis of 312 student submissions, AFAT demonstrated superior diagnostic performance with a Micro-F1 score of 0.92 and substantial inter-rater agreement (Fleiss' Kappa = 0.88), supporting the hypothesis of expert-level accuracy. Key findings reveal that AFAT significantly enhances operational efficiency, reducing evaluation time by 61.2% (averaging 1.87 minutes per flowchart) while decreasing inter-rater variability by 28%. Generalized Linear Model (GLM) analysis confirmed significant time savings, particularly in high-complexity sessions (Wald χ² = 87.44, p < 0.001). Beyond technical efficiency, this research contributes to applied science education by providing a scalable framework for computational science literacy, enabling the rigorous assessment of algorithmic thinking within integrated STEM curricula. These results substantiate AFAT’s potential for large-scale deployment as a robust tool for automated scoring in formal educational settings
