Abstract

The self-directed curriculum places a high value on character education, which is crucial for cultivating people of extraordinary caliber in a community that governs itself. The independent curriculum places a high importance on developing students' character, which includes fostering moral ideals, ethics, honesty, leadership, and cooperation. The main goal of this character education program is to cultivate in children the qualities of responsibility, empathy, and moral integrity, thus promoting the establishment of a fair and unbiased society. Character education is crucial for implementing the autonomous curriculum and fostering a generation that possesses both academic intelligence and robust moral beliefs and positive dispositions. Character education is essential for influencing students' views and enhancing their personal development. The independent curriculum aims to strengthen the character of the Pancasila student profile by prioritizing the principles and values of Pancasila. The Pancasila Student Profile has the following components: belief in a supreme being, ethical uprightness, acknowledgment of global diversity, ability to work collaboratively, self-reliance, and analytical and creative thinking. The role of guidance and counseling teachers in promoting students' character development during the period of independent curriculum is vital.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the Subjective Well-Being (SWB) of kindergarten teachers in DKI Jakarta and its implications for the quality of early childhood education in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We employed a quantitative descriptive approach, surveying a sample of 380 kindergarten teachers in DKI Jakarta. To measure aspects of self-satisfaction, positive affection, and negative affection, we utilized the Teacher Subjective Wellbeing Questionnaire (TSWQ). The results indicated that 68.6% of teachers reported a moderate level of SWB, while 16.2% fell into the low category and 15.2% exhibited a high level of SWB. These findings underscore the importance of subjective well-being for teachers, as it not only impacts their performance but also serves as a reference for fulfilling the SDGs in education. Teachers with a high SWB are likely to foster a more positive and high-quality learning environment, whereas those with low well-being may struggle in this regard. This study recommends enhancing social support, providing ongoing professional training, implementing performance awards, and promoting work-life balance as strategies to improve teacher SWB and support sustainable development in education

Abstract

Culture influences every aspect of human life, including counseling practices. Cultural differences between counselors and clients can present challenges when counselors interpret clients' behavior through the lens of different cultural backgrounds. In the context of Indonesia, Western counseling theories are often used as references, although these cultural values do not always align with local wisdom. This study aims to explore the application of Malay culture as a model for effective counselor personality within a multicultural perspective. The research employs a literature review method by analyzing various sources related to counseling theories, Malay cultural values, and counselor competencies. The findings highlight that Malay-based counselors emphasize spirituality, knowledge, modesty, goodwill, and compassion. These values are rooted in tradition and local wisdom, prioritizing social relationships and human interconnectedness. An effective counselor not only possesses technical competence but also demonstrates empathy, patience, and high moral integrity. The results of this study emphasize the importance of developing a counseling model aligned with Indonesia’s local culture to make counseling services more relevant and effective. Malay culture, particularly in Riau Province, can serve as a reference in formulating an effective counselor’s personality. Adapting counseling approaches to local cultures is expected to enhance the quality and effectiveness of counseling services.
