Abstract

This study investigates the impact of the ADLX INTROFLEX TERPADU learning design on critical thinking abilities among Grade IX junior high school students, specifically on the topic of plant reproduction systems. ADLX, which stands for Active Deep Learner eXperience, is a pedagogical approach that merges Active Learning with Deep Learning principles, strengthened by four INTROFLEX pillars—Individualization, Interaction, Observation, and Reflection—developed by JSIT (Jaringan Sekolah Islam Terpadu), and operationalized through seven sequential TERPADU phases: Telaah, Eksplorasi, Rumuskan, Presentasikan, Aplikaskan, Duniawi, and Ukhrowi. This research employed a quasi-experimental design using a pretest-posttest control group framework. The experimental group received instruction through the ADLX INTROFLEX TERPADU learning design, while the control group engaged with the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model. Findings revealed that the average posttest score of the experimental group (91.37) surpassed that of the control group (81.10). The normalized gain (N-Gain) for the experimental group reached 0.83, classified as high, compared to 0.62 (medium) for the control group. These results confirm that the ADLX INTROFLEX TERPADU learning design yields superior outcomes in fostering critical thinking competencies among Grade IX junior high school students studying plant reproduction systems. Abstract

This research is motivated by the low anecdotal writing skills of eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 21 Medan, caused by a lack of interest in writing, limited learning media, and the dominance of conventional methods that make students less active and less engaged in learning. This study aims to: (1) describe students' anecdotal writing skills before the Concept Sentence model was implemented using digital webtoon comics; (2) describe students' anecdotal writing skills after the model was implemented; and (3) determine the effect of its implementation on anecdotal writing skills. The method used was a quantitative experiment with a One Group Pretest–Posttest design. The study population was all eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 21 Medan (134 students, 4 classes). The sample was selected through simple random sampling, with 32 students from class XI B selected. The research instrument was a descriptive anecdotal writing test assessed based on five aspects: appropriateness of content to title, spelling accuracy, anecdotal text characteristics, structural completeness, and linguistic rules. The results showed an average pre-test score of 63.82 (poor) and increased to78.12 in the post-test (good). Liliefors' normality test showed both data were normally distributed (L count < L table), and the homogeneity test showed homogeneous data (F count = 1.14 < F table = 1.84). Hypothesis testing using a t- test yielded t count = 6.45 > t table = 1.99 at a significance level of α = 0.05, thus H₀ was rejected and Hₐ was accepted. It was concluded that the Concept Sentence model assisted by digital webtoon comics had a significant effect on the anecdotal writing skills of eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 21 Medan. This model was proven effective in improving students' ability to compose anecdotal texts systematically and according to rules, while also increasing student motivation and activeness in learning.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low level of student engagement in mathematics learning at SMP Negeri 03 Kota Jambi. The problem was indicated by students’ limited participation during classroom activities, low motivation in learning, and relatively poor academic achievement. Self-efficacy, defined as students’ belief in their ability to complete academic tasks, was considered an important factor influencing student engagement in learning activities. Therefore, this study aimed to identify students’ levels of self-efficacy, determine the level of student engagement, and examine the effect of self-efficacy on student engagement in mathematics learning. This research applied a quantitative approach using an ex post facto method. The population consisted of 315 students from grades VII, VIII, and IX, while the sample included 176 students selected through simple random sampling using the Slovin formula. Data were collected using Likert-scale questionnaires that had been tested for validity and reliability. The Cronbach’s Alpha coefficients were 0.712 for self-efficacy and 0.760 for student engagement. Data analysis techniques included descriptive statistics and simple linear regression analysis. The findings revealed that students’ self-efficacy was categorized as good, with an average score of 57.5. The regression analysis showed that self-efficacy had a positive and significant effect on student engagement, with a significance value of 0.000 and a regression coefficient of 0.553. These findings indicate that higher self-efficacy contributes to greater student engagement in mathematics learning activities. The results are expected to help schools design effective guidance programs that improve students’ confidence, participation, motivation, and involvement in mathematics learning more effectively.
