Abstract

Abstract

This research aims to determine the relationship between fostering nationalism and the national character of students in international standard schools. The research focus was directed at Sangkara School Medan which uses the Cambridge curriculum and has a multicultural learning environment. The phenomenon of low internalization of national character in the midst of globalization is the background for the importance of this study, even though the development of nationalism has been actively implemented by schools through various programs, cultural activities and teacher example. This research uses a correlational quantitative approach with survey methods. The population consisted of secondary level students and sampling was carried out using a cluster random sampling technique, totaling 95 students. Data collection was carried out through distributing questionnaires prepared based on relevant theoretical indicators. These results prove that there is a strong positive relationship between fostering nationalism and students' national character. The conclusion of this research is that the more effective the nationalism development provided by the school, the stronger the students' national character will be formed. This research strengthens the Imagined Communities theory by Benedict Anderson, which states that nationalism is the result of social construction formed through shared experiences, symbols and narratives.

Abstract

The main issue in the field of education today lies not only in students' lowacademic achievement but also in their lack of reading interest, which directlyaffects their literacy skills. This problem is also evident at SDN Karangsono 3 inDemak Regency, particularly among fourth-grade students who show lowenthusiasm for reading activities and have not yet utilized the school's literacyresources effectively. To address this issue, the study aimed to examine students’reading literacy skills through the use of comics that incorporate the values of thePancasila Student Profile and to analyze the effectiveness of this medium. Theresearch employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected throughobservation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. Data validity wasensured through triangulation of techniques and sources, and the analysisfollowed Miles and Huberman’s model, which includes data reduction, datadisplay, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that the use of comics basedon the Pancasila Student Profile values significantly improved students’ readingliteracy. Approximately 70.06% of students met the literacy indicators, whichinclude literal, critical, and creative reading skills. However, 29.94% of studentshad not yet achieved optimal progress, especially in terms of reading interest. Withappropriate teacher guidance, comics can serve as an effective tool to fosterreading interest and enhance literacy skills in accordance with the developmentalstage of elementary school students.

Abstract

The significance of fostering the growth of children's language abilities at Putih Asri Kamboja Kindergarten is what drives this research. Media including finger puppets are offered to youngsters since speaking is crucial in everyday life. When children play with finger puppets, it helps them develop their language skills, particularly their speaking abilities, which allow them to express themselves verbally. The purpose of this research is to find out how the Putih Asri Kamboja Kindergarten students' language skills were affected by the use of finger puppets. When kids learn to talk, they begin to be able to articulate more complex ideas and emotions. A quantitative method based on a quasi-experiment design is employed in this work. All kindergarteners at Putih Asri Kamboja make up the population, while fifteen kids from B1 and B2 make up the sample. Interviews, documentation, and organized observation are some of the methods used to gather data. A few methods used in data analysis include the hypothesis test, the homogeneity test, and the normalcy test. We utilized a statement sheet to gather data, then we ran the t-test on it in SPSS 16.0 for Windows. The findings of the data analysis revealed that the children's speaking abilities in the experimental class exhibited changes while utilizing finger puppet media compared to the control class, which used hand puppets. The control group averaged 14.93 on the pretest, whereas the experimental group achieved 15. The experimental group averaged a post-test score of 26, whereas the control group averaged 24.26. Results from both the pre- and post-tests showed that the experimental group achieved an average gain score of 26.00, whereas the control group had an average gain score of 24.27. The significance value, with two tails, was less than 0.05, at 0.03. So, the two groups— the control and the experimental—are quite different. That being the case, we can accept Ha as the alternative hypothesis and reject H0. Research like this demonstrates that media including finger puppets can influence kids' verbal development.
