Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of parental digital literacy on internet use in early childhood and adolescence in Bulak Village. The method used is Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to test the relationship between latent variables of parental digital literacy and children's internet use. Data were obtained from 40 respondents using a questionnaire consisting of digital literacy indicators, such as functional skills and beyond, critical thinking and evaluation, and internet use indicators, such as internet access habits and time efficiency. The results showed that the digital literacy skills of parents in Bulak Village were at a moderate to high level, with the leading indicators being 1) functional skills and beyond, 2) creativity, 3) collaboration, 4) communication, 5) The ability to find and select information; 6) critical thinking and evaluation; 7) cultural and social understanding; 8) e-safety. Path analysis showed that parental digital literacy had a positive and significant influence on children's internet use (γ=0.72) (p <0.05). Parental digital literacy significantly shapes safe and productive internet usage patterns for their children. Parents with good digital literacy can guide their children in using the internet for educational and entertainment purposes. Therefore, digital literacy training for parents and digital safety campaigns are highly recommended to maximize the positive impact of internet use on young children and adolescents.

Abstract

The training management procedures for PMI volunteers have not been implemented continuously due to the limited resources of this non-profit organization. This study aims to explore the capacity of volunteers after one year of training and task placement in the Reproductive and Sexual Health Program for adolescents. A qualitative approach was used to analyze the volunteers' knowledge and skills, with data collected through interviews and questionnaires involving 26 respondents. The results indicate that the volunteers' overall capacity is adequate to fulfill their roles, supported by commitment, solidarity, and the ability to share experiences. However, competency in handling cases of sexual violence remains inconsistent among volunteers. Volunteers with less than five years of experience tend to provide brief responses when assisting victims of sexual violence. The study recommends implementing regular, continuous training schedules and establishing forums or communities for volunteer experience-sharing. The outcomes of these discussions can serve as the basis for developing case-based guidebooks and FAQ lists. These learning resources are expected to enhance the capacity of new volunteers, ensuring the program's sustainability.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the written language difficulties experienced by asynchronous gifted children in lower grades with comorbid Learning Disabilities (LD). The results show that the imbalance between high intellectual potential and technical barriers affects children's academic performance, motivation to learn and self-confidence. These barriers include difficulties in letter discrimination, fine motor coordination and logical organization, which often lead to frustration and psychological distress. A special approach is needed to address these challenges, including occupational therapy, digital assistive technology such as voice-to-text software, and adaptive learning strategies. The research also highlights the importance of collaboration between teachers, parents and therapists in creating an inclusive learning environment. The findings provide a foundation for more adaptive educational policies to support asynchronously gifted children's optimal academic, emotional and social potential

Abstract

The results of the monitoring of the Non-formal Education Study Program coordinator for the student creative work course (PNF-202) semester III in the 2023-2024 academic year are practical courses that have minimal field practice. This course allows students to engage in activities in the community and see portraits of social and educational issues in the community. The results of SIEPEL v2.0 University of Bengkulu in 2023-2024 stated that this course had the lowest average satisfaction in semester III, especially in terms of pedagogical and social competence. Even 65% of students want to improve their learning, especially in practical activities in the community, using accurate models, methods, and approaches. This study aimed to analyze the application of the ASOKA model with street photography media based on local wisdom in improving students' creative thinking skills. This study uses a non-equivalent control group design experimental method with a sample of 26 students in semester III-A and 25 students in semester III-B as the control class. Data analysis was done using SPSS 22 software on pretest and posttest data, normality test, homogeneity test, and t-test. The study results indicate that applying the ASOKA model with street photography media based on local wisdom improves students' creative thinking skills in fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. The t-test or hypothesis test results show that t-count = 10.983> t-table = 2.010, which means that the model used significantly improves students' creative thinking skills more than conventionall.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Looking at things through the lens of Amartya Sen's capability theory, this study looks at how the Family Development Session (FDS) program helps family members improve their skills. We employ a literature study as our research method, which entails a theoretical and empirical analysis of reliable sources. Sen's capability theory emphasizes the importance of individual freedom to choose the desired way of life and improve their ability to achieve a dignified life. The FDS program, as a family development initiative, is carried out with the aim of enhancing the capabilities of Program Keluarga Harapan (PKH) beneficiary members who are underprivileged. The results of the literature analysis show that the FDS program has great potential in improving the capabilities of family of hope members through a holistic approach, covering aspects such as health, education, financial management, and participation in community life. The program provides opportunities for family members to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills, and resources to achieve a better life in accordance with their preferences and values. The results of this study reinforce the understanding that the FDS program can be an instrument in enhancing the capabilities of family of hope members, thus enabling them to be more actively involved in society and achieve a more dignified life in accordance with Amartya Sen's vision.

Abstract

The family plays an important role and responsibility in the development of children. School is an important part of improving the quality of individuals. School has a role in child development. The family and school are part of the microsystem environment. Unfortunately, families with children with intellectual disabilities often face different challenges than other families. Parents who have children with intellectual disabilities often feel stressed, angry, rejected, have a deep sense of guilt, and lack confidence. Family Quality of Life is a concept of how well family needs and well-being are met based on five domains: family interaction, parenting, physical well-being, emotional well-being, and disability-related services. If families do not receive support in the form of family-resourced intervention programs, this will affect the quality of families with children with special needs in a negative direction. The purpose of this research is to strengthen the role of schools to families so that families get support, information, strength, abilities, and needs of their children who experience intellectual disabilities so that a positive family quality is created because parents get the best support to create closeness and support with their children. The research method uses design and development research (D&DR). This research took place at one of the Extraordinary Schools in Jakarta. The results of the study show that schools provide full support and teachers build positive collaboration with parents so that parents have a support system from their immediate environment and can improve the quality of the family

Abstract

Children with intellectual disabilities often experience unfair treatment due to the social stigma imposed on them by society. Society often gives negative labels such as "stupid", "incapable", and "family curse". In this study, we summarize ten national and international journals to see how the stigma is formed, spreads, and affects the lives of children and their families. Through the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method, it was found that stigma often arises due to a lack of understanding and direct interaction between society and children with special needs. This writing is a form of reflection that every child has the right to a safe growing space, acceptance by their environment, and to be loved. It is hoped that this study can be a small step towards building a better understanding in society, so that children with intellectual disabilities can live without negative labels and stigmas and can develop according to their potential.

Abstract

Parental involvement in introducing English at the early childhood education (ECE) level has been increasingly recognized for its positive impact. However, concerns raised regarding the quality of English learning provided at home, especially in the Indonesian context where research has primarily focused on teachers rather than parents. This study aims to explore the quality of English learning at home facilitated by parents of a three-year-old child. A qualitative case study method was employed, with data collected through three sessions of home observations involving painting and shared book reading activities. The analysis followed the Miles and Huberman (1994) model, comprising data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that parents successfully integrated the child's interests (e.g., painting and animals) into English learning, fostering positive interaction and engagement. However, certain practices were less effective, such as the use of overly simple and close-ended questions, and a parental tendency to dominate the learning process, limiting the child's active participation and critical thinking development. While parents play a vital role in early English learning at home, the quality of instruction can be improved. ECE teachers are encouraged to support parents through workshops or parenting events that focus on effective questioning strategies, scaffolding techniques, and ways to foster child-led learning experiences.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the application of democratic parenting patterns towards children’s smartphone usage, the resulting impacts, and the strategies employed by parents in managing smartphone use in the 18 Binjai environment. The method used is descriptive qualitative research with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The informants in this study consist of three parents who have children using smartphones. The research results indicate that all informants apply a democratic parenting pattern, which involves granting limited freedom to children to use smartphones by setting usage duration, selecting age-appropriate content, and accompanying them during usage. The use of smartphones has positive impacts such as enhancing children’s knowledge through educational content such as shalawat songs and animal introduction videos, but it also has negative impacts such as tantrums, lack of focus, and screen dependency. Parents’ strategies to reduce negative impacts include inviting children to play, recite the Quran, perform congregational prayers, and setting an example by limiting smartphone use in front of the children. This study concludes that democratic parenting patterns are effective in managing smartphones, use wisely and in balance, and can reduce negative impacts if practiced consistently and attentively.
