Abstract

Mosques not only serve as places of worship but also hold great potential as centers of inclusive social services. However, many mosques have yet to accommodate the diverse social needs of the community fully. This study aims to examine the implementation of the three dimensions of social inclusion access, participation, and empowermentin the Free Meal Program (Warung Makan Gratis). This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study method, collecting data through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that the access dimension is reflected in open information and physical ease of reaching the program. The participation dimension is shown through the active involvement of beneficiaries in the implementation and development of the program. Meanwhile, the empowerment dimension is manifested in the positive transformation experienced by beneficiaries in social, economic, and spiritual aspects. This study concludes that the Free Meal Program represents a concrete example of mosque-based social inclusion practices that successfully reach vulnerable groups. These findings contribute to the development of literature on social inclusion in religious contexts and offer a replicable model of good practice for other mosques or religious institutions

Abstract

Mosques, as the center of worship for Muslims, play a strategic role in the formation of an empowered society. However, in the context of Jakarta as an urban city, the role of mosques in the economic empowerment of the people is still not optimal. This research aims to explore and analyze the role of mosques in revitalizing da'wah, which includes spiritual aspects and economic empowerment of the people. Using a qualitative approach and case study method, this study examines several mosques in Jakarta that have implemented various da'wah-based economic empowerment programs, such as mosque cooperatives, entrepreneurship training, and other social programs. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and documentation analysis. The study results show that although some mosques have successfully implemented economic empowerment programs, there are challenges in integrating da'wah aspects with economic empowerment. The main obstacles include limited resources, lack of coordination between institutions, and shifting da'wah focus. This study recommends a revitalization strategy to strengthen the role of mosques in the economic empowerment of the ummah through the synergy between da'wah, education, and community-based economic empowerment. It is hoped that the results of this research can contribute to optimizing the function of mosques as da'wah centers that are integrated with economic empowerment in urban communities

Abstract

This study is based on the importance of the relationship between local culture and the interpretation of the Qur'an, particularly in the context of Sundanese culture. This research aims to examine how Sundanese cultural values are adapted in the interpretation of the Qur'an and how this interpretation contributes to the preservation of local culture. This study employs a qualitative approach with a literature study method to analyze the relationship between interpretation and Sundanese culture through the perspective of cultural anthropology. The findings indicate that Ahmad Sanusi’s interpretation not only serves as a medium for Islamic preaching but also plays a role in preserving Sundanese culture. These are three strategies: tahmil, tahrim, and taghyir; this is reflected in the use of the Sundanese language, the undak-usuk basa (language hierarchy) system, and social values such as silih asah, silih asih, and silih asuh (mutual sharpening, mutual caring, and mutual nurturing). Additionally, Ahmad Sanusi incorporates local cultural elements, such as tawasul and wayang golek performances, as relevant preaching media for the Sundanese community. Thus, the interpretation of the Qur'an not only serves as an explanation of the sacred text but also as part of a cultural heritage that reflects local identity, proving that Islamic teachings can harmonize with local wisdom without losing their universal values

Abstract

The security santri system is still used by pesantren in Indonesia as a form of cultural preservation. However, many modern boarding schools today try to modify this system by imposing it on santri, who are still students/not yet graduated. This raises important questions about the quality of their learning because they have to bear double duties. To answer this hypothesis, a sample is needed in the form of the application of the security santri system with the status of students. This research is a qualitative study with data collection techniques in the form of interviews, observation, and documentation. The data analysis method in this research uses the descriptive analysis method. The result of this research is that the security santri system is not suitable for charging santri who are students. The security santri have a significant problem in the form of a busy schedule that reduces their rest time. Therefore, they often fall asleep during Dīnīyyah learning and formal high school, which causes their academic performance to decline. In addition, security santri who are less equipped with learning knowledge and age equality factors cause a lack of authority by their peers so that bullying arises as a form of dissatisfaction with their performance. This bullying ultimately causes the mentality of the security santri to fall, which then affects the quality of their learning.

Abstract

Homosexuality is a contemporary issue that sparks debate from legal, social, and ethical perspectives, particularly within the framework of Islamic teachings. This article explores the phenomenon using a thematic interpretation approach (tafsir mawḍūʿī), focusing on the exegesis of Ibn Kathir regarding relevant Qur’anic verses. Employing a qualitative method and content analysis technique, the study examines how Ibn Kathir interprets verses related to homosexual behavior. The findings indicate that Ibn Kathir views homosexuality as a moral deviation that contradicts human nature and Islamic law. His interpretation strongly affirms the prohibition of such behavior and highlights its negative consequences, both spiritually and socially. From the perspective of Islamic moral values, homosexuality violates principles of purity, dignity, and the ideal family structure. Ibn Kathir classifies it as a major sin (kabā’ir) and considers it a threat to the moral fabric of society. This study emphasizes that, according to Ibn Kathir, homosexuality not only breaches divine law but also undermines ethical norms and social order upheld in Islam. Thus, the research reinforces the Islamic legal stance on the prohibition of homosexuality and underlines the importance of preserving moral values and family integrity based on Islamic teachings.

Abstract

The phenomenon of childfree, namely the conscious decision not to have offspring, is a contemporary social dynamic that impacts the Islamic family law system, particularly in the area of inheritance. This study aims to analyze how the choice of childfree affects the structure of inheritance rights in Islam and how the maqashid shari’ah approach can be employed to address these changes. Employing normative legal research methods with theological, conceptual, and maqashid shari’ah approaches, the study finds that the absence of descendants due to a childfree decision shifts the inheritance structure to horizontal relatives or the public treasury (Baitul Mal). Instruments such as wills (wasiyyah) and grants (hibah) play a crucial role in regulating the distribution of estates in this context. The study concludes that although childfree alters the traditional family structure, the principles of justice, property protection, and social sustainability can still be upheld within the Islamic legal framework through a maqashid shari’ah-based reinterpretation. Therefore, strengthening legal literacy and adjusting regulations are essential to address this phenomenon fairly and in line with Islamic objectives

Abstract

This study aims to analyze experiential learning as an innovative strategy to enhance holistic competence. Holistic competence is closely related to intellectual, spiritual, emotional, and physical intelligence. It encompasses excellence and achievement in the cognitive (head), psychomotor (hand), and affective (heart) domains, aligning with the goals of education to integrate affective, mental, and psychomotor outcomes. This approach combines comprehensive understanding with hands-on activities. The practical application of this method requires well-planned stages of design, implementation, and evaluation to achieve the desired learning objectives. This research employs a qualitative case study approach to explore experiential learning as an innovative strategy for enhancing holistic competence, utilizing interviews, documentation, and observation as data collection methods. The findings show that experiential learning effectively supports the development of holistic competence in line with educational objectives. For instance, in the Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh) subject matter related to animal slaughtering (niyyah), students engage in group-based projects involving the slaughter, cleaning, and cooking of chickens. In the topic of corpse care (jenazah), students use training mannequins for hands-on practice. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) materials focus on practical skills with tangible outputs. Other implementations include producing short films based on the Lubabul Hadith text, writing books each semester, and developing soft skills such as public speaking.

Abstract

This study aims to formulate a design for Islamic Religious Education (IRE) that is pluralistic, inclusive, and humanistic grounded in values and the direction of educational reform in response to the challenges posed by socio-religious diversity in Indonesia. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach through a literature study, this research analyzes a wide range of academic sources and relevant IRE teaching practices. The main findings reveal that a responsive IRE instructional design that acknowledges interpretive pluralism, accommodates learners from diverse backgrounds, and upholds human values is an urgent necessity in a multicultural era. The proposed model emphasizes the integration of three core approaches: (1) pluralistic by presenting differences among Islamic schools of thought and facilitating interfaith dialogue; (2) inclusive by accommodating identity diversity and special needs among students; and (3) humanistic by reinforcing the values of rahmah (compassion), ‘adl (justice), and empathy through reflective and experiential learning. The novelty of this research lies in its formulation of an instructional design that simultaneously and integrally incorporates all three approaches, in contrast to previous studies that tend to treat them in isolation. This study contributes not only by offering a more contextual and applicable curricular framework but also by recommending pedagogical strategies that position IRE as an agent of moderation and social transformation. The model is expected to serve as a reference for developing educational policies and practices in Islamic education that are adaptive to contemporary dynamics and uphold humanitarian values.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the meaning of higher education as the path of human nature from the wasathiyah perspective, focusing on its relevance in the context of socio-economic changes in coastal communities. The background of this research is based on the strong patriarchal views that limit the role of women in Higher education, a narrow understanding of destiny, and low participation in Higher education among coastal communities. This research uses a qualitative approach based on a literature study to analyze the concept of higher education as the path of fitrah from an Islamic perspective and its relevance to contemporary issues. The analysis was conducted on primary literature (the Qur'an and hadith) as well as secondary literature in the form of books, articles, research reports, and data from relevant institutions such as BPS, Kemendikbud, and UNESCO. The results show that Higher education is seen as a form of actualization of human nature, which is endowed with the potential of reason, heart, and instinct to develop. The concept of hair and destiny in Islam encourages maximum efforts in studying, including for women and marginalized communities. The findings confirm that Higher education is a strategic necessity in the face of socio-economic changes in coastal communities, which are now affected by the ecological crisis, limited natural resources, and the demands of globalization. This research contributes to enriching the understanding of the importance of Higher education as part of the mission of human creation in Islam. Research recommendations include the need to strengthen educational literacy programs in coastal communities, synergies between pesantren, universities, and local governments, and the development of an inclusive fitrah-based curriculum.

Abstract

The phenomenon of “marriage is scary,” which is increasingly prevalent among urban youth, reflects deep structural and psychological concerns about the institution of marriage. These concerns are closely linked to economic pressures, high social expectations, and interpersonal challenges shaped by personal experiences or social environments. This study aims to explore the cultural and religious roots of marriage traditions, with a particular focus on walimah al-‘urs, through historical and thematic analysis of the Prophet Muhammad’s ﷺ hadiths. The study employs a qualitative descriptive approach, utilizing library research methods to systematically collect, examine, and interpret primary sources from canonical hadith collections (Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim) and classical commentaries (‘Umdat al-Qari, Sharh Sahih al-Bukhari). Secondarysources include contemporary literature in psychology, sociology, and gender studies, as well as statistical data from official institutions, to contextualize the findings within modern sociopsychological realities. Data analysis follows a thematic-descriptive framework, identifying relevant hadiths that provide normative guidance on marriage celebrations. Three key hadiths were identified from Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim that illustrate the Prophet’s ﷺ principles regarding walimah, emphasizing flexibility, simplicity, and modesty in its practice. The study contributes both theoretically and practically. Theoretically, it provides a nuanced understanding of how prophetic traditions can inform contemporary marriage practices. Practically, it offers a spiritual and social alternative to the modern pressures of marriage culture, particularly the tendencies toward materialism and social performance, thus fostering resilience and a balanced perspective for young Muslims navigating marital expectations
