Abstract

This research examines the development of maritime culture in the Islamic Mataram Kingdom during Sultan Agung (1613-1645 AD), focusing on the interaction between agrarian and maritime cultures that shaped the Kingdom's identity. The Islamic Mataram Kingdom, located in the interior of Java, not only developed agrarian power but also made maritime expansion efforts as its power base. Through a historical approach using political and cultural analyses of primary sources, such as Babad Tanah Djawi, with the concepts of continuity and change as well as cultural acculturation as the basis for understanding the social dynamics that occurred, this research explores Sultan Agung's various policies, including the development of port infrastructure, the strengthening of the navy, and the development of religious traditions related to the sea. The results show that these policies expanded trade routes and strengthened the Kingdom's social and political legitimacy. By integrating local culture and Islamic elements, Sultan Agung created a synergy between agrarian and maritime power, significantly impacting Mataram society's economic and social stability. The findings are expected to provide new insights into the role of marine culture in Indonesian history, which is inclusive, cosmopolitan, multicultural, intercultural/mutual cooperation, and egalitarian, and its relevance in the context of marine culture development today.

Abstract

This research aims to develop differentiated digital history teaching materials based on Galuh regents' history to enhance students’ critical thinking. These teaching materials integrated differentiated learning concepts, including content differentiation, learning style accommodations (visual, auditory, kinesthetic), and products differentiated on students’ task projects. This research employs the RnD method and is conducted through the ADDIE model. The subject of the study is a 10th-grade student enrolled in one of the Senior High Schools in Ciamis. Data collection involves interviews, questionnaires, observations, and tests. Data analysis is conducted qualitatively during the analysis and design stages and quantitatively during the development, implementation, and evaluation stages. The research findings are: 1) The current school teaching materials fail to meet students' needs. The teaching materials do not support highly digitised students' diverse learning styles and local historical content. 2) The development process involved expert judgment, receiving a score of 4.6 from the teaching material expert and 4.2 from the content expert. A limited trial yielded a score of 4.07, while an extensive trial yielded a score of 4.52. 3) Effectiveness testing showed an N-Gain of 0.7218 (72.18%), categorized as effective. Based on these findings, The history of Galuh regents holds significant character values in shaping students’ cognitive development so it can integrated into teaching materials. Abstract

In the growing concern over students’ detachment from historical content and the weakening of cultural identity, contextualizing history education through local wisdom emerges as a pedagogical imperative. This study explores how integrating local wisdom into history education can enhance student engagement, historical comprehension, and emotional connection to the subject at SMA N Kota Pontianak. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through classroom observations, teacher interviews, and student reflections. The results demonstrate that local wisdom-based learning enriches historical understanding by linking curriculum content to students’ cultural heritage through folklore, oral traditions, and community narratives. Students showed increased motivation, active participation, and a stronger emotional bond with historical topics, reinforcing their cultural pride and sense of identity. While aligning with existing research on contextual learning, this study offers a novel contribution by examining the affective dimension of learning and its implementation in a multicultural, local Indonesian context. It highlights the strategic role of teachers in adapting local narratives into history lessons. It underscores the pedagogical value of local wisdom for fostering critical thinking, cultural awareness, and identity-based meaning-making. Despite challenges such as limited teaching resources and diverse interpretations of local traditions, the study concludes that local wisdom-based learning represents a powerful approach to revitalizing history education. It recommends that curriculum developers and educators systematically integrate local wisdom to promote more relevant, reflective, and inclusive learning experiences.

Abstract

In this digital era, many historical narratives are vulnerable to misinformation and biased interpretations that circulate freely on social media and online platforms. This requires students to develop critical thinking skills that can be improved through history learning. This study aims to develop teaching materials based on conceptual achievement and creative problem-solving models to improve students' critical thinking skills in history learning. The method used in this study is R&D with the ADDIE model. In the analysis stage, the process involves identifying core problems and understanding students' needs. The design stage focuses on planning teaching materials. The actual instructional product is created during the development stage, including content, media, and student activities. The implementation stage involves testing the developed teaching materials in a real classroom environment (conducted on 32 grade XI students of SMA Labschool Jakarta). Finally, the evaluation stage assesses the effectiveness of the teaching materials in meeting the intended learning objectives. The study's results showed that the developed teaching materials effectively improved students' critical thinking skills, as evidenced by a significant increase in pretest and posttest scores (p-value < 0.05). Further effectiveness was measured using N-gain analysis, which indicated effectiveness in the moderate category, with a 32% increase. Expert validation from content and media specialists also confirmed a very high level of feasibility (> 80%). Thus, teaching materials focusing on conceptual achievement and creative problem-solving can be an alternative to traditional history learning, encouraging students to think critically and gain a deeper understanding of history.

Abstract

The Lingga Yoni Indihiang site in Tasikmalaya is a cultural remnant of the Hindu-Buddhist period that has high historical, spiritual, and archaeological value. Based on the results of excavations and carbon tests, the site is estimated to date back to the 7th century AD. This research is motivated by a number of problems, including the threat of environmental exploitation due to sand and asphalt mining activities adjacent to the site, the problem of access to land controlled by the private sector, and the low use of the site as a medium for learning history. These problems are exacerbated by the lack of publications, the lack of supporting facilities, ownership conflicts, and differences in religious views of the surrounding community. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach. Data collection techniques are carried out through field observations, interviews with stakeholders (site managers, surrounding communities, and related agencies), and documentation studies of relevant literature and archives. The research location focuses on the Lingga Yoni site area in the Indihiang District, Tasikmalaya City. The results of the discussion show that although there have been physical preservation measures, such as the installation of fences, these efforts have not addressed the structural challenges faced by the site. A participatory-based preservation strategy is needed that involves the active role of the community, educational institutions, and the government collaboratively. The conclusion of this study emphasises the importance of integrated site management so that Lingga Yoni Indihiang can function optimally as a protected cultural heritage as well as a means of education and local identity of Tasikmalaya. encouraging students to think critically and gain a deeper understanding of history.

Abstract

Film is a modern medium used to deliver entertainment that has previously been a tradition in society, including presenting elements such as narrative, events, music, drama, comedy and other elements to a wide audience. The novelty of this study lies in examining the visual shift in Indonesian film advertisements from colonial-influenced Western styles toward emerging nationalist aesthetics during the 1950s–1970s, a transformation that has not been previously explored in historical cinema research. The aim of this study is to provide a focused analysis of the visual representation and graphic design of Indonesian film advertisements from the 1950s–1970s using the theoretical perspectives of visual culture and advertising theory to clarify how typography, image composition, and stylistic choices in these promotional materials reflected the cultural context of the era. The method used in this research is the historical method according to Kuntowijoyo which starts from (1) topic selection, (2) heuristics, (3) criticism, (4) interpretation and (5) historiography. The results of this study provide a descriptive account of Indonesian cinema in the 1950s–1970s while showing how film advertisements in newspapers and magazines reflected the broader social and political transitions of the period, including the shift from colonial-influenced visual styles toward emerging nationalist expressions. Movie advertisements in the early 1950s still displayed strong colonial visual nuances, especially through Hollywood-style image composition that imitated the promotional aesthetics of Western imported films dominating Indonesian cinemas at the time. This visual tendency was closely related to the dominance of imported Western films in Indonesian cinemas at the time, which influenced the stylistic choices of local promotional designs. Although there were still few domestically made films, the advertisements had begun to insert symbols of resistance to western domination by incorporating local elements.

Abstract

This article criticism from internal and external sources on digital historical evidence in the form of YouTube videos. These videos complement printed historical evidence, including manuscripts, magazines, contemporary newspapers, and paintings, on Javanese traditional wedding ceremony traditions, especially those of the Yogyakarta and Surakarta Kratons. The research method employs the historical method, which includes heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. It primarily focuses on digital historical source criticism and is conducted through documentation studies utilizing YouTube and thematic coding analysis. This analysis is applied to data on traditional wedding ceremonies performed outside palace walls by government officials of the Republic of Indonesia at their children's weddings. The study's results show: (a) Difficulty in finding printed sources can be supplemented with digital historical sources, such as YouTube videos covering Javanese traditional wedding ceremonies. (b) Internal criticism encompasses evaluating the suitability of the event's broadcast time and date, the appropriateness of the title and content in photos, videos, or text, the validity and authenticity of the archives, and the video's purpose. (c) External criticism involves assessing the creator's account credibility, witnesses, sources, and reference materials in the videos. Videos are stored as historical evidence using links and metadata, including keyword specifications, synonyms, video title, channel name, and publication date, so the same video can be found again
