Abstract

This community service examines the impact of the implementation of KKN in Sumber Agung Village, Keluang District, Musi Banyuasin Regency, with a focus on education and local resource-based economic development. Through a qualitative descriptive approach, it identifies the challenges faced by the community, such as limited educational facilities, lack of diversification of agricultural products, and low utilization of agricultural waste to increase economic value. To overcome these problems, namely by strengthening the economic skills of the community and student participation in village social activities. One of the leading programs is training in processing local agricultural products, such as kepok bananas, sweet potatoes, and cassava into high-value products, such as chips and other snacks. In addition, students introduce the innovation of utilizing palm oil fronds as raw materials for environmentally friendly plates to replace single-use plastic. This program aims to increase public understanding of economic opportunities based on available natural resources and encourage the creation of sustainable small businesses. The results of the activities show an increase in community skills in managing local products and an increase in awareness of the importance of innovation in small businesses. The community becomes more skilled in producing banana chips and environmentally friendly plates that have the potential to increase household income. In addition, students actively participate in various village social activities, such as attending cooperative meetings, participating in youth activities, and interacting with community leaders. This involvement strengthens students' social relationships with residents and enriches students' understanding of rural social dynamics.

Abstract

One of the sub-districts that produces the most coconuts in Banyuwangi Regency is Kabat Sub-district with an average of 7,829 tons per year. One of the villages that produces the most coconuts in Kabat Sub-district is Kedayunan Village with a harvest area of 426 ha and a production of 679.9 tons in 2020. However, coconut fiber waste has not been utilized optimally. Coconut fiber is a by-product and the largest part of the coconut fruit, which is around 35% of the weight of the coconut fruit. Although coconut fiber is classified as organic waste, if left untreated it will have an impact on the environment such as waste accumulation. The availability of waste that is very large in the Diporejo Farmers Group, further processing is needed so that coconut fiber waste becomes a product with high selling value and can help increase the income of farmer group members. One way to overcome this problem is by processing coconut fruit derivative products from coconut fiber into cocopeat. Cocopeat is a planting medium made from coconut fiber which has several advantages. These advantages include, as an environmentally friendly organic planting medium and has a fairly high water absorption capacity, the most important of which is being able to reduce coconut waste in the surrounding environment. In addition to coconut fiber processing activities, members of the farmer group are taught training on how to market cocopeat in the market.

Abstract

The 2017 Global Nutrition Report states that 2 billion adults and 41 million children worldwide are overweight or obese. Based on Body Mass Index (BMI) assessments using Z-scores, it was found that out of 168 students at SMAN 2 Padalarang, 21 students (12.5%) had abnormal BMI values. One proposed solution is nutrition education through Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and learning videos to increase students' knowledge about obesity prevention and balanced nutrition. This program aims to determine whether there is a significant difference between the pre- and post-intervention scores for each method. The implementation of this activity involved FGDs and learning videos, with 248 students from grades 10, 11, and 12 at SMAN 2 Padalarang participating. A total of 124 students received counseling through the FGD method, while the other 124 students participated through the learning video method. This program was conducted on August 21-22, 2024. The analysis showed that both intervention methods, video and FGD, had a significant impact (p-value 0.000 for both interventions) on the change in scores from pre-test to post-test. In conclusion, in this program, the FGD method showed a greater effect (1.12) than the learning video (0.99).

Abstract

This service aims to overcome the problem of paper waste management to destroy unnecessary archives at the partner, namely the Directorate of Law and Administration of Surabaya State University. At the partner, the destruction process is carried out by shredding using scissors and tearing it into pieces. This method is ineffective and inefficient because it requires a lot of energy and a long time. In fact, in forced conditions, burning is carried out. This creates new problems, namely in the long term it will encourage climate change and environmental pollution. The solution to solving this problem is to process paper waste using a waste shredding machine to increase the recycling process and reduce the impact of climate change due to waste burning. The implementation method includes socialization of PKM-LK to partners, activity planning stage, manufacturing stage, paper shredding machine function test stage, training and mentoring stage, TTG (Appropriate Technology) implementation stage, and monitoring and evaluation stage. The results of the activity show that using a waste paper shredder machine is effective, efficient, and can reduce climate pollution due to waste burning with the number of sheets of paper processed per hour ± 2570 sheets, and the total weight of paper processed ± 12.83 kg. The recommendation from this study is to expand the market, machines can be designed with varying capacities, from small scale for SMEs to large scale for companies.

Abstract

Musculoskeletal pain such as aches and pains is a health problem that is closely related to a sedentary lifestyle and an unbalanced diet. This study aims to analyze risk factors and provide educational recommendations based on questionnaire data from 38 respondents in Setro Village, Menganti, Gresik Regency, East Java. Descriptive methods were used to evaluate health parameters (age, BMI, blood pressure, uric acid levels, cholesterol), sitting habits, screen time, physical activity, and consumption of sweet foods/drinks. The results showed that the majority of female respondents (93%) were aged 40-68 years with a high prevalence of risk factors: 60% overweight, 10% obesity (BMI>25), 16% hypertension, and extreme uric acid/cholesterol levels (up to 11.8 mg/dL and 339 mg/dL). As many as 73% reported musculoskeletal complaints (joint pain, tingling) that correlated with long sitting habits (>4 hours/day), lack of exercise (40% never did physical activity), and daily consumption of sweet drinks (60%). The results of this study indicate that a structured educational intervention is needed to increase awareness of low-purine diets, regular physical activity (eg, elderly gymnastics/jogging), and sedentary screen time management. The conclusion of the study emphasizes the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration (medical personnel, government, community) in a healthy lifestyle and healthy diet-based prevention program to prevent musculoskeletal complications.
