Abstract

Indonesia still faces serious nutritional problems among children under five years of age due to inadequate food consumption and mothers' lack of knowledge about food selection and preparation. This condition leads to dependence on instant complementary foods (MP-ASI), resulting in suboptimal nutritional needs for children. TThis activity was carried out through an educational approach in the form of counseling and cooking demonstrations using local food ingredients. The results of the activity showed an increase in mothers' knowledge about MP-ASI, from an average score of 8.9/10 to 9.6/10. This activity had a positive impact in the form of improving mothers' skills in preparing complementary foods using local ingredients and raising awareness of the importance of choosing healthier foods for children. Based on these findings, nutrition education and cooking demonstrations on complementary feeding have been proven effective in supporting more optimal feeding practices for young children.

Abstract

Surabaya State University Campus 5 was established in 2024 and has 16 study programs with a total of 2,888 students from various regions. This campus provides a great opportunity for the community to build a residence in the form of boarding houses. Based on data from the Magetan Regency government, the number of rooms owned to date is 1,642 rooms spread across several local sub-districts and villages. These communities built boarding houses according to their own initiative without going through the licensing process, so there are different variants for each boarding house. They do not yet have rules and regulations that students must follow and the boarding house managers do not yet have the skills to do as boarding house managers. Problems faced related to boarding house management include social issues for students that require special handling, the lack of socialization to boarding house managers by the district government, diverse views from boarding house managers in managing their boarding houses, limited abilities in character education that must be carried out, and minimal ability to solve problems caused by students. The implementation methods used include providing workshops, lectures and role-playing methods, workshops and mentoring, and seminars. The results of this activity, namely the rules and SOPs for boarding house managers, can be a practical solution in maintaining harmony between the interests of the campus and the community, especially student boarding house managers and the government, especially student boarding house managers. Keywords: boarding house management, character education, practical solutions, rules and regulations, social problems.

Abstract

The Farmers Group "Horticulture Makmur Bersama" in Rejosari Village, Gondang District, Tulungagung Regency, is one of the leading actors in the horticultural agricultural sector that provides superior vegetable and fruit seeds. The problems faced by the Farmer Group "Makmur Bersama Horticulture" are difficulties in controlling pests and diseases, maintaining the growing environment, and limited resources. Based on the problems faced, the service team provides solutions to solve these problems with the Smart Green House innovation. The differentiator in this innovation is an irrigation device with a movable concept. The method used in this service activity consists of problem identification, needs analysis, design/development, manufacturing and testing, training, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. The results of this service showed that the production of plant seeds increased by an average of 36%. The use of Smart Green House can control pests more effectively and reduce the excessive use of pesticides. This bright greenhouse has temperature, air humidity, soil moisture, and light sensors integrated with IoT. Based on this service activity, the importance of technology integration in a sustainable agricultural sector in supporting the green economy can be concluded. Smart Green House can contribute to food security and empower farmers to manage their agriculture modernly.

Abstract

One of the pressing issues facing the Indonesian press is the lack of regeneration. Young people seem to have no interest in pursuing journalism as a profession. Yet, the sustainability of the press plays a vital role as a pillar of democracy in Indonesia. This issue underscores the importance of establishing a common understanding and fostering synergy through focus group discussions (FGDs). The purpose of this Focus Group Discussion (FGD) was to identify the root cause of the lack of interest among young people in the profession of journalism and to provide recommendations for solutions to the regeneration problem, ensuring continued interest in this profession for the success of the press in Indonesia. This PkM was held in the form of FGDs using a consultation method to foster synergy with universities. To this end, the Department of Communication Sciences, UNY, collaborated with a partner, the Alliance of Independent Journalists (AJI) Yogyakarta. This FGD was useful in addressing the problem of the younger generation's lack of interest in the profession of journalism. The FGD yielded several findings, indicating that prior to the FGD, students had misperceptions about the profession of journalists, including confusion about the concept of journalism, journalism products, and the perception that the profession of journalists is less promising in this era. To address this issue, several recommendations were made. 1) Academics need to adjust the curriculum; they must introduce the spirit of journalism to students, provide basic writing and reading skills, and provide students with relevant skills for the times. 2) Practitioners need to provide facilities and regulations for young journalists and offer alternative business models. 3) Students need to increase their capacity for collaborative projects and their interest in journalism. Even in the digital era, students need to realize the importance of developing writing and reading skills as the foundation of journalism. Abstract

Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) in Brunei Darussalam face limited access to continuing education, lack of entrepreneurial skills, and insufficient understanding of the integration between education, ecology, and business. To address this gap, the FMIPA team from Universitas Negeri Surabaya conducted an online EduEcopreneurship training in November 2025. The activity employed a participatory workshop approach and a pretest-posttest evaluation design. Results indicated a significant improvement in participants’ conceptual understanding, with average scores rising from 52.4 to 84.2 (a 31.8-point increase, or 60.7%). Moreover, 93.3% of participants successfully designed business ideas that integrated the three core pillars of EduEcopreneurship: Eco-Innovation, Eco-Opportunities, and Eco-Commitment. Participant feedback was rated “Good” (average 4.08 on a 5-point scale). These findings confirm that EduEcopreneurship serves as an effective dual empowerment model, combining non-formal education and sustainable economic development, for migrant workers.
