Abstract

Food security is a fundamental aspect of rural development, particularly for smallholder farming groups that rely heavily on natural resources. The Adelweis Farmer Group, consisting of ten women farmers located in Mawa Subdistrict, Sendana District, Palopo City, has long struggled with limited agricultural productivity due to reliance on manual irrigation and unfavorable market conditions. In response, a training and mentoring program was initiated to utilize Solar Power Plants (PLTS) as an alternative energy source to operate water pumps for irrigation. The initiative also included capacity building in resource management, product packaging, and marketing strategies. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of PLTS implementation in enhancing crop productivity, particularly water spinach (Ipomoea aquatica), and its impact on increasing farmer income. A qualitative-descriptive method was employed through field observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Findings revealed that the use of solar energy not only reduced operational costs but also expanded cultivated areas and increased harvesting frequency. Consequently, farmers’ income significantly improved, and agricultural product distribution became more efficient. These results highlight the critical role of integrating renewable energy technologies in small-scale agriculture as a strategy for sustainability and local food security.

Abstract

Contemporary perspectives on 21st-century education emphasize that primary schooling must cultivate transferable competencies that extend beyond content mastery. In Indonesia, the implementation of the 2023 Curriculum and the Merdeka Belajar framework foregrounds Deep Learning (Pembelajaran Mendalam) as a means to achieve the 6Cs (i.e., character, citizenship, collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking) from the earliest grades. This study reports a community service (Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat, PKM) intervention designed to strengthen primary teachers’ capacity to understand and implement this policy in their classrooms. The program involved 28 teachers from SD Negeri Pondok Cabe Ilir 02, Tangerang Selatan, and adopted a four-stage model: observation, socialization, workshop and mentoring, and evaluation. A mixed-methods approach was employed, incorporating teacher surveys on knowledge and self-efficacy, classroom observations aligned with the 6Cs, analysis of lesson plans and student artifacts, and focus group discussions. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, inferential tests, and thematic analysis. The findings reveal significant improvements in teachers’ knowledge, understanding, and awareness of Deep Learning, which fostered a collective commitment to redesign lessons and adopt more active, student-centered pedagogies. Teachers applied differentiated strategies across grade levels: story- and play-based learning in lower grades, and guided inquiry in both middle and upper grades. The program also encouraged professional collaboration and mentoring, although barriers such as limited preparation time, insufficient resources, and varied levels of teacher readiness persisted. These results suggest that the implementation of Deep Learning in primary schools requires sustained and context-sensitive professional development, supportive school leadership, adequate resources, and longitudinal research to link changes in teacher practice with long-term improvements in student learning outcomes.

Abstract

Environmental problems caused by the increase in household plastic waste, particularly single-use plastic bottles, have become a serious issue in Betek Village, Mojoagung, Jombang. An average of 4–5 kg of plastic bottles is collected every week at the Betek Bersinar Waste Bank, with suboptimal utilization. This condition demands innovation in productive and sustainable management through vertical farming based on plastic waste recycling. This community service program aims to empower the community through the implementation of vertical farming based on plastic bottle recycling as an effort to downstream food security in limited land. The implementation method uses a participatory approach through the stages of preparation, education and counseling, technical training, implementation and mentoring, and evaluation & monitoring. The activity evaluation uses a pretest–posttest one-group design with 18 participants consisting of waste bank managers and village officials. The evaluation instrument is a Likert questionnaire 1–5 to measure the participants' management skills. The results show an increase in management skills from 58.67% to 83.61%, with the category of "Very Good". Participants are able to create and operate 8 active vertical farming units with a crop success rate of 87.5%. This program has proven effective in increasing agricultural technology literacy and awareness of sustainable plastic waste management, and has the potential to be replicated in other regions with similar characteristics.

Abstract

The drying of batik songkok raw materials in Rek Kerrek Village, Pamekasan Regency, is done by relying on sunlight. The time required is 3 days. When the weather is cloudy and rainy, the drying time is longer, namely 1 week and the batik color is dull. The batik process is still conventional with canting which is hand-drawn and motifs that rely on ancestral heritage. The process of batik with manual canting takes 2-3 days to 1 month per sheet. The problems faced are the long time for processing and drying batik so that production capacity, expensive batik prices and the competitiveness of batik products are still low. The objective of the PDB program is to provide technological innovations in the form of an infrared dry room drying machine to speed up the drying time of batik and an innovation in canting caps to speed up the batik processing time. This innovation increases production capacity, sales volume, and the competitiveness of batik products. The methods used are training, mentoring and practice of technological innovations for partners. The results of the program are: 1) the infrared dry room drying machine (partner-1) and the innovation in canting caps (partner-2) increase production capacity and quality, sales volume and the competitiveness of batik products. The infrared dry room dryer speeds up drying time to approximately 90 minutes. The batik process using a canting cap simplifies the process and reduces the completion time to 3 hours.

Abstract

Tourism plays an important role as a strategic sector in driving economic growth and improving the welfare of local communities. Padak Guar Village in East Lombok Regency has great potential for marine tourism, especially in terms of its natural beauty and coastal culture. However, this potential has not been optimally managed due to limited promotional media and the low level of digital literacy among the community in marketing tourism destinations. This condition requires technological innovation to support the promotion and development of sustainable tourism in the village. This community service program aims to enhance the capacity of tourism managers and local MSMEs through the implementation of the SIMANIS Application integrated with a Virtual Tour. The program focuses on optimizing technology-based destination promotion. The activities were carried out through several stages, including needs analysis to identify main problems and tourism potential, followed by system design, application training, and digital content creation assistance. Evaluation was conducted to measure the program’s effectiveness and success. The results show a significant improvement in the community’s understanding of digital technology, reaching 85% of all participants. The number of tourism promotional contents uploaded via digital media increased by 275%, indicating active community participation in promoting destinations. Tourist visits also rose from 750 to 1,250 people per month, positively impacting the local economy. In addition, the average income of MSME actors around the tourist area increased by 30%. Overall, this activity successfully strengthened the community’s digital capacity and expanded the promotional reach of Padak Guar tourism. The implementation of the SIMANIS Application and the Virtual Tour website proved effective in improving destination promotion, expanding market reach, and supporting the realization of sustainable tourism in Padak Guar Village.

Abstract

Karimunjawa as a leading marine tourism destination demands increased English language proficiency, both for teachers and students. Its location in the 3T (underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost) region faces challenges in access to educational technology and improving English language proficiency as a provision for the younger generation in facing global interactions. However, the implementation of English learning at SDN 6 Karimunjawa is still limited. The learning process tends to be conventional, with teachers using more lecture methods and textbooks without utilizing modern technology. The objective of this community service activity is to improve innovative learning management and English language skills through the implementation of Augmented Reality (AR)-based ICT Books for teachers at SDN 6 Karimunjawa. The methods used include socialization, training, technology application, as well as mentoring and evaluation. This activity was attended by 17 teachers and went well, where participants were introduced to the ABBI (Aku Bisa Berbahasa Inggris) book integrated with AR technology. The results of the training and mentoring showed that 88% of teachers stated that this program was very useful, 82% considered AR media capable of improving teaching creativity, and 76% felt that its use was relatively easy although they still needed further mentoring. The observation results showed an increase in teacher competence by 40–53% in the use of innovative media, the application of AR in vocabulary learning, and increased student interaction and engagement in the classroom. For students, the initial and final ability tests showed an average increase in vocabulary mastery of 24.4%, pronunciation 22.3%, and learning engagement 25%, indicating that AR-based ICT Book is effective in improving learning outcomes while creating a more active, enjoyable, and contextual learning atmosphere.
