Abstract

This community service activity aims to conduct early detection of oral health problems through simple preliminary examinations using clinical instruments, while improving students’ knowledge through oral health education as an effort to prevent dental and oral diseases. The program involved 110 students from the Indonesian Schools in Jeddah and Mecca. The activity was implemented using a health empowerment approach, with dental and oral examinations conducted using the Oral Health Surveys: Basic Methods issued by the World Health Organization (WHO). The collected data were analyzed based on frequencies and percentages. The screening results showed a high prevalence of dental caries, with 51.8% of students having a DMF-T score > 0. The 10–12-year age group accounted for the highest proportion of caries cases at 73.6%. The most commonly required treatment recommendation was dental fillings, representing 38.2% of cases. The high prevalence of caries among diaspora students highlights the importance of sustainable early detection programs and oral health education. This intervention is expected to foster good oral hygiene habits from an early age in order to prevent more severe dental diseases in the future.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to increase public knowledge and awareness of infectious and non-infectious diseases as part of efforts to establish an ESD-based Healthy Independent Village in Muktiharjo Kidul Village, Semarang City. The methods employed included health education and awareness campaigns through interactive outreach sessions conducted in collaboration with the Semarang City Health Department, case discussions, post-activity questionnaires, and the distribution of educational pamphlets containing information on disease types, risk factors, and preventive measures for both infectious and non-infectious diseases. The activity was evaluated using quantitative and qualitative descriptive analysis techniques. The results indicated strong support from the village government regarding program sustainability, as well as high levels of community enthusiasm toward the activities. Initial assessments showed that the knowledge levels of health cadres varied considerably, with notable gaps in several topics, particularly scabies (14.89%) and leptospirosis. Following the educational intervention, the community demonstrated positive responses, active participation, and increased awareness of the importance of behavior- and environment-based disease prevention. In addition, the activity produced educational pamphlets that were used as tools for disseminating information at the family and community levels. The ESD approach also encouraged the active involvement of health cadres as agents of change in supporting the sustainability of community-based health programs.

Abstract

This community service program aims to transform a mangrove conservation area into an attractive and sustainable ecotourism destination through a community empowerment approach. The main partner of this program is the Tourism Awareness Group (POKDARWIS) of Tapak Village, Semarang City, which serves as a key actor in the management, development, and promotion of community-based mangrove ecotourism. The implementation methods consisted of field observations, focus group discussions (FGDs), training and counseling sessions, mentoring and hands-on practice, as well as evaluation and reflection. The assistance focused on developing structured ecotourism packages, strengthening digital marketing strategies, and improving service quality through the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Data were analyzed using descriptive and comparative approaches to assess changes before and after program implementation. The results indicate increased community knowledge and skills in managing and promoting mangrove ecotourism, the establishment of structured tourism packages, the creation of digital promotional content, and the initial implementation of tourism service SOPs. The program significantly enhanced the readiness of local managers to receive visitors and created opportunities to improve the economic prospects of the local community. Therefore, this initiative contributes to the development of a community-based mangrove ecotourism model that emphasizes environmental conservation and local economic empowerment.

Abstract

This community service program aims to implement the Jelajah Simbol Harmoni educational board game as an innovative learning medium to enhance students’ understanding of religious symbols and foster tolerance in secondary schools. Grounded in the perspectives of Religious Studies and interfaith relations, the program responds to the limited availability of contextual learning media for promoting religious moderation. The program was implemented in three secondary schools in Pontianak City, involving 20 students and three religious education teachers. A participatory-educative approach was employed through three stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. Data were collected using pre-test and post-test instruments, observation sheets, and semi-structured interviews, and were analyzed descriptively using a mixed-methods design. The findings indicate a significant improvement in students’ understanding of religious symbols, as reflected in the increase in average scores from 55 to 80. Observational data also revealed high levels of student engagement, with 85% of participants successfully completing game challenges and demonstrating cooperative and tolerant attitudes. These results confirm that Jelajah Simbol Harmoni is effective as an alternative pedagogical strategy for strengthening students’ understanding of religious symbols and promoting tolerance in secondary school contexts.

Abstract

This community service program aims to enhance financial confidence and mental resilience among Indonesians in Japan through a mindful spending intervention that integrates financial literacy with emotional awareness. Mindful spending emphasizes conscious financial decision-making by aligning spending behavior with personal priorities and psychological well-being. The program was implemented through two online educational sessions and one face-to-face (F2F) workshop using a Brief Intervention Training approach. A total of 29 participants attended the online sessions, which covered the theoretical foundations of mindful spending, financial mental health, and contextual financial practices in Japan. Furthermore, 15 participants participated in the F2F workshop held at the Indonesian Mosque in Tokyo, where they engaged in scenario-based exercises involving promotional discounts, lifestyle spending, and competing financial priorities. Participants documented their responses and reflected on their decision-making processes during group discussions. Data were collected through post-program questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics and correlation analysis. The findings revealed high levels of mindful spending (M = 4.08), mental resilience (M = 4.06), and financial confidence (M = 4.04). Strong positive correlations were identified between mental resilience and financial confidence (r = .80), as well as between financial responsibility and financial confidence (r = .77). Overall, participants reported improved financial awareness and emotional regulation after the program. These results indicate that integrating financial literacy with psychological resilience through mindful spending is an effective approach to empowering the Indonesian diaspora in managing financial challenges abroad.

Abstract

This community service program aims to enhance partners’ skills in producing solid organic fertilizer using non-symbiotic microbial consortiums and shredding machines through a participatory-collaborative empowerment approach based on the ODSIMED stages. The program was implemented from August to December 2025 with KUB Surya Agrotani in Kediri Regency. Skill data were collected from 56 respondents using structured observation sheets administered at the beginning and end of the mentoring program, while service quality was evaluated through a Likert-scale questionnaire. Descriptive analysis revealed a significant improvement across 10 production skill indicators, with an average N-Gain in the high category (0.89). An important finding was that participants’ compliance with occupational health and safety standards during the mentoring process also increased substantially, with a high N-Gain score (0.84). This result is consistent with the service quality assessment, which indicated that the team of lecturers and students paid strong attention to occupational health and safety standards throughout program implementation. These findings demonstrate that the integration of biotechnology and appropriate technology within the ODSIMED framework effectively strengthens partners’ organic fertilizer production capacity in a measurable and sustainable manner, while maintaining strong attention to health and safety standards.
