Abstract

A This study aims to analyze the impact of grant funding allocations on the performance of athletes from South Sulawesi in preparation for the 2024 National Sports Week (PON XXI) in Aceh–North Sumatra. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach using a case study method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation from various online news sources, including KONI South Sulawesi. The findings reveal that although a total grant of IDR 31.5 billion was allocated for PON XXI—IDR 17.5 billion for KONI South Sulawesi and IDR 14 billion for the South Sulawesi Youth and Sports Office (Dispora)—athlete performance declined, with South Sulawesi ranking 16th out of 39 provinces. In contrast, during PON XIX in West Java in 2016, a budget of IDR 80 billion resulted in 12 gold medals and a 12th-place finish out of 34 provinces. At PON XX in Papua in 2021, with a budget of IDR 30 billion, South Sulawesi earned 11 gold medals and ranked 11th out of 34 provinces. Several factors were found to affect the effectiveness of grant utilization, including delayed fund disbursement, lack of transparency, and insufficient strategic planning in athlete development and training program implementation. Moreover, weak coordination among local government, KONI, and sports federations led to inefficiencies in the distribution and use of funds. The study concludes that the amount of grant funding does not necessarily correlate with improved athletic performance unless supported by an effective, transparent, and accountable management system.

Abstract

A This study aims to describe the level of tennis playing skills among students of the Department of Physical Education, Health, and Recreation (PJKR) at the Faculty of Sports and Health Sciences, Makassar State University (FIK UNM), specifically focusing on the basic techniques of the forehand drive and backhand drive. It also seeks to analyze the relationship between these skills and students' height. The research adopts a quantitative approach with a descriptive method. The subjects of the study were 30 male PJKR students from FIK UNM who had completed the Tennis course, selected through purposive sampling. To assess the students' forehand and backhand skills, the Hewitt Tennis Test was used. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results showed that students' forehand drive skills (mean score: 20.60) were better than their backhand drive skills (mean score: 14.57). The majority of students demonstrated a "good" level of forehand skill (30%), while for the backhand, most were categorized at "moderate" and "good" levels (33.3% each). Correlation analysis revealed a strong relationship (r = 0.640) between overall tennis skills (forehand and backhand combined) and students' height, with a contribution of 41%. This study highlights the importance of structured and varied training programs, incorporating both physical and mental components, to enhance students' tennis skills.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the mental level of North Sumatra tennis athletes competing in the XXI Aceh – North Sumatra 2024 PON and athletes participating in the PON selection, through the aspects of self-confidence, emotional regulation, concentration, and the influence of coaches during the competition. This study used a descriptive research method with a purposive sampling technique. The sample in this study consisted of 19 respondents. Data collection techniques used questionnaires via Google Forms and interviews. Data analysis was conducted by examining all data obtained from the respondents' questionnaire answers and interview results using a linker scale and converted into percentages. The results of the percentage analysis of the athletes' mental level of competition through each indicator show that the mental level of competition among North Sumatra tennis athletes at PON XXI Aceh – North Sumatra 2024 and Non-PON athletes showed a higher level of self-confidence, namely 80.75%, followed by concentration at 73.05%, and finally emotional regulation at 71.72%. This shows that North Sumatra tennis athletes at PON XXI Aceh – North Sumatra 2024 have problems controlling or managing their emotions, which is reinforced by the results of interviews conducted on the influence of coaches during matches, where athletes admit that when they are under pressure or in critical situations during matches, coaches who are able to read the game and provide the right solutions can help athletes overcome pressure and make better decisions. Understanding the mental aspect of competition will have a positive impact on the match

Abstract

This study aims to map the development of research on fundamental locomotor skills within physical education learning over the past decade and to identify existing research gaps. A systematic review method was employed, supported by Publish or Perish software and bibliometric analysis using VOSviewer. Articles were searched from 2012 to 2022 using the keyword “learn basic locomotor movements,” resulting in 2,136 records. The selection and screening process followed the PRISMA protocol, yielding 41 eligible articles. The findings indicate that learning models are the most dominant topic within FMS research, whereas comprehensive investigations of locomotor skills remain limited. Of the 41 articles reviewed, only 18 (43.90%) addressed six locomotor skills, one article (2.44%) covered eight aspects, and none examined all nine locomotor skills (running, jumping, walking, leaping, galloping, sliding, rolling, skipping, hopping). These results highlight a substantial need to develop complete locomotor skill–based learning, particularly for children aged 5–7 years who are in a critical stage of motor development. This study provides an evidence-based foundation for creating more targeted motor intervention programs to support children’s movement competence.
