Abstract

This community service program aims to enhance the competitiveness of the local honey product “Madu Biene” in Bengkalis Regency through strengthening branding, packaging, and market access to support sustainable development. Prior to implementation, the partner MSME had no Trade Business License (IUD), which hindered market expansion and formal cooperation. The method employed was Participatory Action Research (PAR), involving local government, entrepreneurs, academics, communities, and the private sector as strategic partners. Activities included training on brand identity design, development of eco-friendly packaging, facilitation of online and offline marketing, and socialization as well as assistance in obtaining the IUD. The results showed improvements in packaging quality and brand image, expansion of marketing networks, increased understanding of sustainability principles among business actors, and the issuance of the IUD, which strengthened business legality. Multi-sectoral collaboration proved effective as a catalyst for empowering MSMEs based on local resources, while contributing to the achievement of SDGs, particularly goals 8, 12, and 17.

Abstract

The implementation of clean and healthy living behaviors is still relatively low in coastal areas due to a lack of understanding and knowledge among the community about the importance of clean and healthy living behaviors and environmental sanitation conditions. The lack of adequate sanitation facilities will have a direct impact on the risk of environment-based diseases and reduce the quality of life of coastal communities. Therefore, this community service activity aims to provide education and guidance on clean and healthy living behaviors as an initial and strategic step in improving environmental sanitation in coastal areas. The community service method involves counseling and discussions with village officials and the community of Pasiran Village, Bantan District, Bengkalis Regency, and analysis using pre-test and post-test methods to measure the success of this community service activity. The results of the community service activity showed an increase in the understanding and knowledge of coastal communities regarding clean and healthy living behaviors. The pre-test and post-test results indicated an increase in knowledge from 65% to 90%, representing a 25% improvement. Additionally, this activity provided an overview of the environmental sanitation conditions in coastal areas, thereby benefiting the enhancement of coastal communities' knowledge about clean and healthy living behaviors. Furthermore, support from health centers through community health workers is needed to consistently provide information.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to improve students' environmental literacy through project-based learning by utilizing household waste, particularly rice washing water, into Liquid Organic Fertilizer (LOF). The program was implemented at SMAN 1 Tembilahan by students from Universitas Riau as part of a thematic KKN initiative. The method used includes counseling and practical training through five main stages: initial assessment (pretest), concept delivery, group project implementation, result presentation, and post-assessment (posttest). The approach combined educational participation with contextual practice using the Project-Based Learning model. The pretest and posttest data show a significant increase in understanding, with the average class score rising from 77.75 to 98.96. The results indicate that LOF-based environmental education, delivered through interactive and contextual methods, effectively increases students’ awareness and competence in environmental literacy. This program also reinforces students' critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills by engaging them directly in real-world ecological solutions.

Abstract

This community service activity was carried out at Gugus 3 Public Elementary School, Pasir Penyu District, Indragiri Hulu Regency, with the aim of empowering elementary school teachers in designing sustainable environmental education projects based on local potential. Teachers in this area still face limitations in learning resources, understanding of environmental issues, and teaching media that are contextual to students' lives. This program is designed to increase teachers' capacity in developing and implementing environmental education pocketbooks as relevant thematic learning media and supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The implementation of this community service activity is carried out through four main stages: planning, implementation, training, and evaluation. Each stage is interconnected and makes a significant contribution to program achievements. The training combines theory, discussion, and direct practice so that teachers are able to integrate environmental issues into learning. Evaluation results show that the program received a very positive response from participants with an average satisfaction score of 91.08%. Teachers reported an increase in understanding of sustainability principles, skills in designing teaching media, confidence in developing pocketbooks, and motivation to involve students in environmental projects. Although there are still challenges in the form of limited resources, this activity has proven effective in strengthening the role of teachers as agents of change in forming an environmentally aware generation and encouraging the realization of sustainable development in the region.

Abstract

Household waste, particularly used cooking oil, remains a significant issue in Indonesia. Data from the National Waste Management Information System (2024) show that households contribute 50.8% of the national waste generation. In Simpang Baru, used cooking oil is generally discarded without processing, posing risks to the environment and public health. This study aims to enhance community awareness and skills, especially among women, in transforming used cooking oil into value-added products through the Eco Candle innovation. The research employed a qualitative approach through interviews with 72 respondents and field observations, followed by a workshop on Eco Candle production with housewives from RW 06, 07, and 08. Activities included socialization, hands-on practice in making aromatherapy candles, and continued mentoring. Findings reveal that 28 respondents (38.9%) were unaware of waste benefits, while 44 (61.1%) recognized its potential, but only 18 (25%) had experience managing it. Waste management practices were grouped into four categories: active (19.4%), economic (22.2%), passive (26.4%), and non-management (31.9%). The workshop received positive responses, reflected in participants’ independent practices. These findings highlight the gap between knowledge and practice while underscoring women’s role as agents of change. The Eco Candle program supports SDG 12 by reducing waste, raising awareness, and creating household-based economic opportunities.

Abstract

Mathematics learning in elementary schools is often considered abstract, difficult to understand, and uninteresting for students. On the other hand, traditional games such as Statak have the potential to be a fun, contextual learning medium. Digitizing this traditional game is seen as a solution to increase student interest and learning outcomes. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of digital Statak media in improving mathematics learning outcomes of fourth-sixth grade students at SDN 02 Selat Panjang. This study used a quasi-experimental approach with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The subjects were 26 fourth-sixth grade students. The instruments used consisted of a mathematics learning achievement test and a student response questionnaire. Data were analyzed using paired t-tests and descriptive analysis. The average pretest score was 77.5, while the average posttest score increased to 87. The t-test results showed a significant difference (p < 0.05) between the pretest and posttest scores. Digital Statak media has proven effective in improving mathematics learning outcomes for students at SDN 02 Selat Panjang. Furthermore, this media fosters learning motivation and plays a role in preserving local culture through the digitization of traditional games.

Abstract

Family Medicinal Plants (TOGA) are beneficial plants commonly cultivated in home gardens and managed directly by families as a form of easily accessible traditional medicine. In Bukit Batrem Village, limited access to health facilities and low public awareness of alternative natural remedies pose significant challenges to public health. Through the Community Service Program (KKN), our team addressed this issue by establishing a TOGA garden at the Kapodang Integrated Health Post (Posyandu), which serves as an educational tool and practical health resource. This initiative targets the Bukit Batrem community, particularly mothers and the elderly who frequently rely on Posyandu services, with the goals of: (1) increasing health independence through local medicinal plants, (2) optimizing underutilized land, and (3) reviving traditional knowledge of herbal medicine. Methods used included community outreach, direct planting (using polybags and open land), and labeling plants with scientific/local names and health benefits. Results showed an increase in community understanding of the benefits of TOGA, especially for common ailments such as hypertension (cat's whiskers), digestive problems (turmeric), and infections (galangal). The success of the program (90% target achievement) demonstrates TOGA's potential as a sustainable solution to address the health service gap in Bukit Batrem, while also encouraging environmental management.
