Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of career guidance in enhancing pre-employment mental readiness among orphans at the Muhammadiyah Boys’ Orphanage, Medan Branch. The research employed a qualitative descriptive approach using a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis involving caregivers, career mentors, and active foster participants in the program. The findings revealed that Islamic value–integrated career guidance significantly improved self-confidence, independence, and mental preparedness for work transition. Three key themes emerged: (1) implementation of Islamic character-based career programs, (2) enhancement of mental readiness and career orientation, and (3) mentoring strategies to overcome emotional and social challenges among orphans. These results highlight the importance of a holistic, spirituality-based approach in expanding both theoretical understanding and practical applications of Islamic career counseling within faith-based social institutions.

Abstract

This study provides a theoretical investigation into the multidimensional impacts of bullying on students’ academic and social activities within elementary schools. Utilizing a literature review approach, this paper synthesizes findings from academic journals, educational reports, and media publications to explore how bullying affects students’ learning engagement, classroom participation, and mental well-being. Documentation methods were employed to collect and analyze relevant sources, enabling a conceptual understanding of bullying as one of the major ethical and psychological challenges in education. The findings reveal that victims of bullying often experience decreased academic performance, emotional distress, and social withdrawal due to persistent fear and anxiety in school environments. This study contributes to the theoretical and practical discourse on creating safe learning environments and highlights the necessity of preventive and intervention strategies to promote anti-bullying awareness among educators and policymakers.

Abstract

Consultation is part of school counselor services. As a professional, counselors also need ongoing and continuous consultation with other professionals in order to overcome frustration, improve skills, self-development, and advocacy. One of its forms is teleconsultation. Teleconsultation is an option in order to improve the education support system. The purpose of this study was to describe the implementation of teleconsultation carried out by school counselors to other professionals (senior counselors). The teleconsultation in question is a consultation using the chat feature on the Whatsapp application. Data were collected by interviewing 2 school counselors as participants and then analyzed using the Miles and Hubermann techniques. The results of this study indicate that the reasons for effectiveness, efficiency, and professional experience of consultants are the reasons counselors use teleconsultation. School counselors gain new understanding and feel satisfied after teleconsultation is carried out. Not only that, they also apply the results of teleconsultation with consultants. Teleconsultation answers their needs as school counselors and will continue to use teleconsultation in the future. Thus, the professional activities of school counselors increase with the existence of teleconsultation so that it can be used as an option to improve the educational support system.

Abstract

This research aims to explore students' perceptions of the phenomenon of verbal toxic positivity in academic interactions, particularly between lecturers and students. Toxic positivity is a form of communication that conveys positive messages excessively without considering the emotional context of the recipient, which can actually have a negative impact on mental health. Using a descriptive quantitative method, data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 81 students of the English Education Study Program at STKIP PGRI Ponorogo. The research results show that the most dominant form of verbal toxic positivity is in the form of advice and affirmation. The main triggering situation is the continuous repetition of those statements by the lecturer, especially when students are experiencing emotional stress. The psychological impacts most felt by students are low self-esteem, feelings of depression, and the inability to express emotions in a healthy way. These findings emphasize the importance of faculty awareness, both as educators and academic advisors, in building empathetic and adaptive communication to create an academic environment that supports students' mental well-being. This study also recommends the development of communication and student well-being training to avoid the practice of verbal toxic positivity in the context of academics and academic guidance.

Abstract

Vocational high school students face challenges in planning their future, whether choosing to work or continue their education. Hope is a crucial factor in determining future steps, which can be influenced by psychological well-being. This study aims to examine the relationship between psychological well-being and hope among 11th-grade students at SMKN 7 Surakarta. The results of this study can encourage educational institutions and teachers to pay more attention to students' psychological well-being. This research employs a quantitative method using Pearson’s Product Moment correlation technique. The sample consists of 276 students selected through simple random sampling. The instruments used are the Adult Hope Scale (AHS) based on Snyder’s theory and the Psychological Well-Being Scale (PWB) based on Ryff’s theory. The results indicate a positive and significant relationship between psychological well-being and hope (r = 0.285, p < 0.05), although categorized as weak. Additional analysis reveals significant differences in hope based on gender and study program but not age. Male students exhibit higher hope levels than female students, while students in the Tourism Services program have the highest average hope scores, and those in Broadcasting and Film have the lowest. In conclusion, psychological well-being contributes to hope, but other factors also play a role, suggesting that future research should explore additional aspects.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between achievement motivation and student engagement among vocational high school students in Padang. A quantitative correlational approach was used, with a sample of 182 students selected through proportionate stratified random sampling. The instruments employed were the Achievement Motivation Scale and the Student Engagement Scale. The validity coefficients for the achievement motivation scale ranged from 0.310 to 0.750, with a reliability coefficient of 0.933. For the student engagement scale, the validity coefficients ranged from 0.330 to 0.617, and the reliability coefficient was 0.880. Data were analyzed using Pearson Product-Moment correlation. The results revealed a significant positive correlation (r = 0.558, p < 0.01), indicating that students with higher achievement motivation tend to have higher levels of engagement. The effective contribution of achievement motivation to student engagement was 31%. These findings suggest that internal motivation plays a substantial role in enhancing academic involvement among vocational students.

Abstract

This research explores the challenges and opportunities experienced by teachers of students with special needs (TSSN) in inclusive schools, as well as the impact on their psychological well-being (stress and relationship with others). Students with special needs (SSN) possess the same right to education as their peers without special needs, and the implementation of inclusive education in Indonesia places teachers at the forefront of addressing student diversity. The research employed a descriptive qualitative method with thematic analysis of data obtained from open-ended online questionnaires completed by 58 inclusive school teachers (81% female, mean age 36.38 years, with varying teaching experience). The findings indicate that the primary challenges faced by teachers include a lack of in-depth understanding of TSSNs, inadequate facilities, difficulties in managing learning and classroom dynamics, and the need to respond to a wide range of student behaviors and emotions. Nevertheless, teachers also identified opportunities to improve their competencies and build meaningful relationships with students. The discussion highlights the necessity for more comprehensive support from schools and the government, encompassing training, adequate facilities, adaptive curricula, and professional support teams. In conclusion, this research highlights the importance of psychological interventions and systemic support to improve the well-being of inclusive school teachers, which will ultimately positively impact the quality of education for SSNs. This finding is useful for designing school-based interventions and public policies that support the well-being of inclusive education teachers.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the role of the Wilayatul Hisbah in regulating deviant activities among adolescents in the Blang Padang Field area of Banda Aceh and to identify the inhibiting factors in the implementation of such enforcement. Deviant activities in this context include behaviors that contradict Islamic sharia norms, such as promiscuity, violations of dress codes, and activities potentially leading to juvenile delinquency. This research employs a qualitative approach, with data collected through observations, in-depth interviews with Wilayatul Hisbah officers, community leaders, and adolescents in the area, as well as document analysis. The findings reveal that the Wilayatul Hisbah plays a strategic role as a sharia law enforcement body through routine patrols, guidance programs, and preventive measures. However, the effectiveness of these efforts is hindered by a shortage of personnel, limited operational budgets, and resistance from certain groups of adolescents. These findings underscore the importance of synergy among the Wilayatul Hisbah, families, educational institutions, and the wider community to foster a social environment that supports adolescent character development in accordance with Islamic values.

Abstract

Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) 2 Pontianak has been working hard to resolve the case of Underachiever students, from 2023 - 2025. The school implements holistic handling, which involves many parties: Class Teachers, Subject Teachers, Guidance and Counseling Teachers, Parents and Psychologists and the handling starts from the root of the problem. This kind of handling of underachiever students has not been widely carried out in other madrasas in Pontianak City. This kind of handling pattern is felt to be successful in resolving the problem of underachiever students at the school. This study aims to reveal the holistic handling pattern of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) 2 Pontianak. This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive-inductive approach. The data collection technique was carried out through in-depth interviews with 9 informants, namely: 3 Guidance and Counseling Teachers, 1 Principal, 2 Underachiever Students, 2 Parents of Students, and 1 Psychologist. Through the results of the in-depth interviews conducted, this study concludes as follows: 1) that the handling of Underachiever students is carried out using a holistic approach, which is centered on the Guidance and Counseling teacher; Coordination with Class Teachers and Subject Teachers, Discussion with parents of students, and Consultation with Psychologists; 2) the process of handling underachiever students is carried out by identifying, counseling, motivating, and providing other activities related to the problems of underachiever students; 3) the toughest challenge in handling underachiever students lies in the teachers who teach, where subject teachers are often unaware of the existence of underachiever students.

Abstract

This study explores the process of developing high self-esteem among visually impaired adolescents at SLB A Bina Insani, Bandar Lampung, based on Coopersmith's Self-Esteem Theory (1967). A qualitative approach with a multiple case study design was used to explore in depth the psychological and social processes underlying self-esteem. Three participants with high self-esteem were selected using the Coopersmith Self-Esteem Inventory (CSEI). Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation, then analyzed thematically. The results show that high self-esteem is formed dynamically through the interaction of internal and external factors. Coopersmith's four factors : acceptance, control, expectations and standards, and rewarding of competence interact with aspects of self-esteem : significance, competence, virtue, and power through self-acceptance, realistic expectations, independence, and appreciation of self-competence. Social support from family, teachers, and peers strengthens this process, resulting in independence, optimism, and resilience in the face of stigma and obstacles. This study emphasizes the importance of unconditional acceptance from family, an inclusive and supportive learning environment, and a culture of appreciation to support the development of positive self-esteem in visually impaired adolescents
