Abstract

This study aims to analyze the spatial distribution patterns of earthquake occurrences in North Sumatra during 2022 using spatial statistical approaches, namely the global Moran’s I autocorrelation test and Local Indicators of Spatial Association (LISA), visualized through a Moran Scatter Plot. The data used in this study are secondary data obtained from the official earthquake catalog released by the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), including information on geographic location, time of occurrence, magnitude, and depth of earthquakes. The analysis was conducted using R and QGIS software, applying three types of spatial weighting: inverse distance, k-nearest neighbors (KNN), and adaptive Gaussian kernel functions. The results of the Moran’s I test revealed significant global spatial autocorrelation, indicating that earthquakes with similar magnitudes tend to cluster geographically. In contrast, the LISA analysis showed that most points did not exhibit significant local spatial association, although a few clusters of high-high, low-low, high-low, and low-high types were identified. These findings confirm the presence of spatial patterns in the distribution of earthquakes in North Sumatra, which are relevant for supporting mitigation efforts and spatially-based disaster management planning.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the implementation and impact of the use of Business Management Information System (BIMS) on operational efficiency and increasing fishermen's income in Meranti Paham Village, Labuhanbatu Regency, North Sumatra. The background of this study is based on the low efficiency of traditional fisheries businesses due to the absence of a structured information recording and management system. With a qualitative approach through case studies, data were obtained through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and documentation of 15 fishermen, community leaders, and representatives of the Fisheries Service. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of BIMS, which includes recording catches, distribution, and financial reports, can improve the efficiency of fuel use, operational planning, and cost control. Economically, the use of BIMS increases fishermen's income by 20–30% and strengthens their bargaining power in the market. The success of the implementation is influenced by the support of cooperatives, the role of local leadership, and family involvement. However, obstacles such as limited digital infrastructure, low technological literacy, and concerns about data privacy are still challenges. This study recommends strengthening ongoing training, increasing access to technology, and policy support so that BIMS can be adopted more widely in the community fisheries sector.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze effective instructional phrases in bilingual teaching (English-Indonesian) for elementary school students. We explored the characteristics, forms, communicative functions, and implementation patterns of instructional imperative sentences in bilingual classrooms. Data was collected through literature review, classroom observations, and teacher interviews from bilingual elementary schools in Semarang. The results demonstrated that effective bilingual instructional phrases have distinct structural and pragmatic characteristics that facilitate student comprehension across both languages. We identified six variations of instructional phrases and five main communicative functions that support classroom management and learning facilitation. The study revealed implementation patterns including language scaffolding, interlanguage transition, instruction contextualization, and age-appropriate usage patterns. Several challenges in implementing bilingual instruction were identified, including language comprehension difficulties, proficiency variations, language interference, and usage consistency issues. These findings provide a reference for elementary school teachers to enhance bilingual instruction effectiveness and support students' bilingual competence development.
