Abstract

This study aims to describe in depth the role of Adlerian counseling in identifying the handling of self-esteem in individuals who experience feelings of inferiority. Self-esteem is an important aspect of psychological development that affects individual confidence, social relationships, and motivation in facing life's challenges. Adlerian counseling was chosen because it focuses on understanding feelings of inferiority, finding a purpose in life, and strengthening social interests that are relevant to the dynamics of self-esteem. The research method used is a qualitative approach with a case study design. The study participants consisted of four people who experienced low self-esteem problems with different backgrounds. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations during counseling sessions, and analysis of counseling reflection documents. The data was analyzed using thematic analysis techniques by maintaining validity through triangulation of sources and techniques. The results of the study showed that Adlerian counseling was able to identify factors that affect low self-esteem, both from negative beliefs and social pressure. Lifestyle analysis techniques, socratic dialogue, and encouragement are effective in helping participants change their perception of themselves and increase their courage to interact socially. The changes observed included increased confidence, courage to take on new responsibilities, and a reduction in withdrawal behavior. These findings confirm that Adlerian counseling is relevant to use as a self-esteem management strategy because it can integrate cognitive, emotional, and social aspects holistically.

Abstract

This research aims to explore mothers' experiences in caring for children with Down syndrome by focusing on the challenges they face and the strategies used to overcome them. This research uses a qualitative phenomenological research type with an Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) approach, with a focus on in-depth interviews involving two mothers who have Down syndrome children. The research results show that there are 4 ultimate themes from both subjects, namely (1) Child behavior, (2) Optimism, (3) Emotional turmoil, and (4) Social support. Social support from family and neighbors, and optimism play an important role in helping mothers to overcome the challenges faced in caring for children with Down syndrome. This research provides valuable insight into the importance of social support and optimism in helping individuals, especially mothers with children with Down syndrome, in facing the challenges of caring for children with Down syndrome.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the tradition of malukat in Bali as a form of local wisdom that has therapeutic potential in supporting mental health, and to examine how this practice can be integrated into a multicultural guidance and counseling approach. The background of the study stems from the increasing interest of local and foreign tourists in the Malukat ritual, which is seen not only as a spiritual practice but also as a means of self-purification that provides inner calm and emotional balance. In the context of multicultural counseling, the counselor's understanding of the value and meaning of this tradition is considered important to increase the relevance and effectiveness of counseling interventions. This study used a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach, where data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation. The research subjects consisted of local people, foreign tourists, and counselors who understand multicultural practices. Data analysis was done thematically with coding, grouping, and meaning interpretation techniques, and data validation through source and method triangulation. The results showed that malukat provides psychological benefits in the form of decreased stress levels, increased sense of calm, and the formation of deep spiritual connections, both in local communities and foreign tourists. From a counseling perspective, malukat can be integrated as a culture-based approach that enriches multicultural counseling practices through symbols of purification, prayer, and self-reflection. Thus, the malukat tradition can be a bridge between local wisdom and modern counseling practices that emphasize cultural sensitivity and holistic healing.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the Differential Reinforcement of Low Rates (DRL) technique in reducing tardiness behavior among ninth-grade students at SMP Negeri 61 Surabaya. Student tardiness is considered not only a matter of discipline violation but also a factor that disrupts classroom effectiveness; thus, a classroom management strategy grounded in Skinner’s behaviorism is required. The research employed a quantitative approach with a Single Subject Research (SSR) A-B-A design. Five students with consistently high levels of tardiness were purposively selected as research subjects. Data were collected through attendance records across three phases: baseline one (A1), intervention (B), and baseline two (A2). The intervention involved providing positive reinforcement such as verbal praise, reward points, and special privileges whenever students arrived on time. Data were analyzed descriptively using frequency counts of tardiness per week and visualized through graphs to identify behavioral trends. The results revealed a significant decrease in tardiness frequency from the baseline to the intervention phase, with stability maintained during the second baseline. These findings confirm that DRL is a simple, effective, and contextually relevant strategy for fostering student punctuality and discipline. The novelty of this study lies in applying differential reinforcement in a public junior high school setting with limited resources, contributing fresh insights into the Indonesian context of classroom management.

Abstract

This study aims to empirically examine the implementation of Pancawaskita Counseling in strengthening the character of students in the era of disruption, by emphasizing the dimensions of responsibility, discipline, empathy, integrity, creativity, and other Pancasila values. Pancawaskita Counseling is considered relevant because it not only focuses on solving individual problems but also emphasizes the development of moral, spiritual, and social awareness in accordance with the Indonesian cultural context. The research used a qualitative approach with a case study method. Research informants include counseling guidance teachers, students as counselees, and related school parties. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, then analyzed using thematic analysis techniques with data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing stages. The results showed that Pancawaskita Counseling can strengthen the internalization of the main character of students in facing the challenges of the digital era, including in terms of technology use and interaction in the digital cultural space. Supporting factors for implementation include the role of counseling teachers as facilitators, the openness of learners, and external support from families and communities. This research contributes to the development of a Pancasila value-based counseling model that is contextual to the needs of learners in the era of disruption.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of information and communication technology (ICT) training for government officials using Kirkpatrick's training evaluation model, which comprises four levels: reaction, learning, behaviour, and results. The background of this study is based on the need to improve the capacity of state officials in facing the demands of bureaucratic digitalisation and public services. The research method used was a quantitative approach with a survey design, supplemented by descriptive and inferential analysis. Data were collected through questionnaires administered to 120 respondents who were officials who had participated in ICT training programmes in various government agencies, as well as in-depth interviews with 15 training management officials to reinforce the quantitative results. The results show that at the reaction level, the majority of participants were satisfied with the training material, methods, and facilitators. At the learning level, there was a significant increase in the mastery of basic to advanced ICT skills. At the behavioural level, participants were able to implement the competencies they had acquired in their daily work, although there were still obstacles related to facilities and organisational support. At the outcome level, the training contributed positively to improving work efficiency and the quality of public services. In conclusion, Kirkpatrick model-based ICT training is effective in improving the capacity of government officials, but requires follow-up in the form of institutional support and strengthening of digital infrastructure.

Abstract

This study aims to deeply analyze gender issues in multicultural guidance and counseling practices in Indonesia and formulate a conceptual model of counseling that is gender-equitable and sensitive to the local cultural context. The research approach used is qualitative with a phenomenological design, with participants consisting of school counselors, guidance and counseling lecturers, and prospective counselor students who were purposively selected. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and document analysis, then analyzed using thematic analysis techniques. The results showed that counselors' understanding of gender is still normative and influenced by cultural and religious values. Gender bias and stereotypes are still evident in counseling practices, while the counseling strategies applied tend to emphasize social harmony rather than individual empowerment. The main obstacle lies in the lack of training and institutional support for gender-perspective counseling. This study produces a conceptual model that integrates three main dimensions: counselors' awareness, knowledge, and skills in dealing with gender issues in multicultural contexts.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze the general overview of the quality of life among 12th-grade students at SMAN 4 Tasikmalaya exhibiting self-harm symptoms. Employing a quantitative method with a descriptive design, the study involved 287 participants. Two instruments were utilized: the Deliberate Self-Harm Inventory (DSHI), developed by Gratz (2001), consisting of 17 items measuring the frequency, severity, duration, and types of self-harm behavior; and the Adolescent Quality of Life Inventory (AQoLI), adapted from an instrument created by Ependi (2022). This latter instrument measures adolescent quality of life through 26 items across three dimensions: personal growth, social functioning, and self-functioning. The findings reveal that 49% of the students (142 individuals) had engaged in at least one form of self-harm. The quality of life among students with self-harm symptoms was categorized as very high (11%), high (58%), average (30%), and low (1%). This study concludes that self-harm symptoms among 12th-grade students at SMAN 4 Tasikmalaya are generally mild. However, attention is needed through counseling and guidance services to provide interventions that support emotional regulation and strengthen aspects of life, serving as essential means to help students build healthy coping mechanisms and enhance their well-being.
